Can we please not discus spoilers here? I know I haven't had much to say these days, but I like reading what people here talk about and still regularly lurk.

Speaking of which, we have been severely missing some blue!

Now that we are on the topic of games to pass the time untill ME3, I was wondering whether to get Final Fantasy XIII, mostly in order to hear some of Ali Hillis as Lightning and was wondering whether anyone here had played it for either the same or other reasons and could tell me whether it is good, beyond our blue goddess' voice actor.

Do you like running down a corridor, fighting monsters non-stop, while listening to a whiny kid, and an annoying moron?

Here's a spoiler. Lesbian power (literally, as in a magical power) saves the world.

I will take that as a "no"

I haven't played Final Fantasy since Mystic Quest lol.
I watched a playthrough of FF XIII by accident and thought : " Wait a minute, I know that voice."  ^_^
All in all I wouldn't buy a FF game, because I never liked the combat system.
The VA are doing a great job and I really appreciate their work, but I'm not going to buy a game that I don't enjoy playing.

If you like that sort of combat system, then buy the game, the graphics are amazing. If you don't enjoy it, there should be some cutscenes on youtube.

The ending was the best thing about Final Fantasy XIII and I'm not being sarcastic.  Loved it and thought it was fabulous.  Sure, the game itself had some problems as far as balance and gameplay (no towns, etc.), but for me, the ending and the female characters in that game were so on point.
Loved it.

Okay....  *quietly goes back to lurking*

If you like Final Fantasy, then go ahead - I'd say you'd enjoy it.
Voice acting is well done and the story's more or less a typical FF tale, but that doesn't have to be a bad thing
Gameplay isn't too bad and you can get into it, it just lacks variation and the linear 'between moment' areas can begin to grate on you, but it does open up nicely once you reach what is essentially Hyrule Field; a kinda 'sandbox' world-map.
And it's graphics, particularly the cutscenes, are brilliant done
So, yeah, I enjoyed it, but I've only played through it the once and don't really plan on doing it again. But I don't regret it

Hope that helps in some way

The ending was horrible. They spent god knows how long telling a boss the philosophy and meaning of the game, while it recharged for a round 3, instead of killing it right there.

Claiming that it should be lesbian power in particular that can/should save the world is the problem here.

I don't think her initial statement claimed that though.

Lightning is a good character, and Ali does a good job with her. She's a different character then Liara, and it's a different performance. She's a good example of a strong female protagonist. Fang is also a good character.

Vanille on the other hand, is an example of one of the most annoying morons in gaming history. Sure there's someone that's more annoying. But that doesn't stop me from wanting her dead. And the worst part is, it's mostly her story.

When Fang said she'd die for her, I screamed "WHY????" Why would such a good character like you even stand this character? I mean, you have to be after a piece of that Vanille, because otherwise, you'd never want this character near you.

And then I see her look up her skirt, and I'm like "I knew it! She's after her hot juice! You can find better! Ditch the moron!"

I know. It was an intentionally absurd comment. It was a humerous exageration of taking offense where none was warranted.

So lesbian power is off-limits but terrorist power is totally fine?

*snicker*

I'm sorry, that game just has the worst character names of all time. On top of their androgyny, it's impossible to take them seriously.

No reason really. If I did not know better, I would guess the post/replies came from the TIM thread. Just seemed like something you would see in it.

Terrorism doesn't discriminate by gender. :innocent:

We got to be progressive here, Zil! Imagine if the galaxy were organized along gender orientation and favoritism!

And if the world just happens to be saved by a lesbian? So it'd just a lesbian's power.
