becasue two characters get less than 5 minutes of lines in second game and not even a mention in the shadow Broker's dossier, the man that had info on alliance admirals, but not a staff commander and an operations Chief.

So how come this chaos now. ME2 has been out for quite awhile. Seems to me this chaos coincides with leaked information moreso than with old news. Was there something in the leak that has everyone upset ?

Ashley: Hey, I love it. You should give it a try.
Liara: I tried, and I hated it. So I'll have a tea.
Ashley: No way to get you in my caffeine club - Shepard, Joker and Gardner are members too!
Liara: Tempting idea, but no. Ash, I'm sorry for what happened yesterday.
Ashley: Okay ... ?
Liara: The fight over John. You know, I like him - more than I should. 
Ashley: Liara ... it's okay. I'm sorry too. Shouldn't lash out against you. We're all in the same team and if there's anyone deserving some lashing, then it's ... John?
Shepard: Hey you two. I checked Joker. He's not watching porn.
Ashley: Good to know.
Shepard: You're still not cleaning weapons, Ash. Thought you went to the armory?
Ashley: Was about to go when Liara showed up.
Shepard: I see. Guess things go better now?
Liara: Of course, John.
Shepard: Good thing I had a talk to you Ash. 
Ashley: Skip, you know me ...
Shepard: That's why I talked to you. No more fighting.
Ashley: Understood.
Liara: I was never out for a fight.
Shepard: I know. Hope you two get along better now. We need to focus on the job.
Ashley: God, you're so awful when picking the paragon way, know that?
Liara: Shepard is just trying to keep the team together.
Ashley: Know that. He's just always taking the sappy route.
Liara: It works. Be nice to the people and they'll be nice to you.
Ashley: Jeez I'm surrounded by fortune cookie writers ...
Shepard: No bickering, you two.
Ashley/Liara: We don't!
Shepard: Good.
Ashley: *whispers* Liara, I think Mr. Niceguy needs someone pulling him down to the ground again.

Actually, no. I much prefer authors developing the story at their own pace, with characters of their own choice because fan pressure ruins things. What happened to MGS series is evidence enough that one's own selfish thinking simply cannot be taken into consideration when deciding such things.

Yes, honestly, I am and would be totally fine with it if it was the other way around.

To me, Liara is what I think Merrill should have been, and to be fair if you cut out 500% of the stupid in Merrill she'd probably be fine (well minus the fact Liara is obsessive about things I think are a bit more ... "good" so as opposed to blood magic, mirrors and demons).

I'm probably going to get a "Merrill isn't stupid" essay in response to this, but I'll just say in advance that to me she just comes across as completely dense. Emphasis on "to me".

Liara is more of a cross between Morrigan and Leliana.

To me, they are very similar. Also, Merrill's goal is "good" (restore lost history for her people) though her means are questionable...same with Liara.

Liara seems much more aware of what she's doing though. She gives Shep's body to Cerberus, knowing full well they're a shady organisation and she uses Sekat knowing full well he is in great danger.

Merrill on the other hand doesn't seem to be fully aware of the actual dangers of what she does despite the fact that the risks are thrown in her and Hawke's faces time and time and time and time and time and time and time again with waves of crazy abominations attacking them. There's a line between youthful enthusiasm ("yeah well that's just them, I won't get possessed") and basically making your mind impervious to anything to do with the dangers of demons.

Then there's her party banter which just makes me want to hit her with a spade. I know it's cruel, but the voice probably plays a big factor in it, to me she doesn't ever really come across as even trying to sound intelligent in the slightest; "derp aveline whuts a guard"
