My main criticism about Liara being important to the plot, or being important, is how it's always handled. I sometimes think it doesn't help her as a character. It's just there to help setup a plot point, and then dropped completely.

There isn't much talk between you and her about her mother. She already knows she's the bad guy, and takes your side on things. And then, after her mother's death, she's over it.

There isn't much talk about her life as a prothean expert beyond, "I'm an expert and love it". She tells you her theory, and then points you in the right direction. It's good for moving the plot forward, but that's all it's used for. She doesn't go into detail about her love for it, or her life as archaeologist beyond the bare minimum. She simply has the job to serve the plot.

Same with her becoming an information broker. I can justify how she got the job, but the fact of the matter is, she got it because it served the plot. She didn't get it to help develop her character. Everything about her life as an information broker is kept vague. And from what I'm being told, it'll remain that way.

What was used to develop her character is turning her more into a corrupt character. How she was willing to kill 5 possible Shadow Broker agents just to get data to help avenge her friend. Or wanting to kill more agents for their involvement with the Shadow Broker. That she was slowly turning into a bad guy herself, with Shepard warning her about it.

But then LOTSB comes out, and they dropped that aspect almost completely. They did a back pedal on her, and made her more likable or understandable. And it shows.

So that's another aspect that went nowhere, and dropped.

Same goes for her saving your corpse.

As much as some might wish someone else did it, or whatever, the fact of the matter is, it almost amounts to nothing but a short conversation, and never to be brought up again. So again, another aspect that went nowhere.

It's like they create reasons for her to matter to the story, but they don't bother developing it well. Or they barely put any effort to develop it. Or they simply drop it later.

So if in ME3, she loses her Shadow Broker status at the beginning of the game, I'd be disappointed.

She does go somewhat in-depths if you ask her correctly about why she became interested in protheans, or at least somewhat considering how many lines of conversation you usually get in a video game.

And while I would have loved more information both on that subject and her time as an information broker and the shadow broke, I can see whay it has been handled the way it has so far.
Generally while I would love any addiitonal information concerning Liara and her life I don't except Ali Hillis to do several dozen hours of lines just for that kind of thing (but would seriously love if she did), okay I am excaggerating but stil.

That might be true but for me it never felt forced or and I never got the feeling of "oh this is awefully convinient, I wonder why this just happens to be her special field of study".
And to be fair one could say the same of every squadmate in the game, we run into them because they just happened to be who we need when we need it.
It is of course a different matter in ME2 as we actively seek them out because they are who they are.

Why is "Embrace eternity" bad? I think it's pretty good.

I just never liked it, I also think it was overused in ME1. The Asari sure like to embrace eternity with shepard, in fact Ibelive Liara does get jealous of the consort.

Yeah she does, to be honest I never really like the consort and her conniving ways(never slept with her). I found it a little cute when she got flustered over the consort. :P

I can't remember, if she gets flustered over Shiala as well. Actually Liara would have known about Shiala in ME2,being a broker and all.

I made shepard sleep with the consort hahaha 8D

Me too. I think "Embrace Eternity" is just a way to help focus a persons mind. If not Embrace Eternity then what else?

Me too, I don't feel to be somewhat forced, many people have problem with Liara becoming Shadow Broker all of the sudden. What about VS becoming spectre out of the blue. And the last I cheked there was no explanation for this.
EDIT: My first impression for VS becoming spectre was what the hell, why and how? I don't like it, but I don't really care much at the end of the day.

Nice post. If it is any comfort, it is that some of it will be dealt with in ME3.

I don't know. Never been a huge fan of t-shirts with icons on them. That and I am like the only gaming nerd in like a fifty miles radius where I live.

But I might be able to wear one when at home on casual friday or saturday.

If it' a t-shirt with something from a game then I don't mind it if it wouldn't be too recognisable to most people, but idk, I couldn't imagine wearing a shirt with Liara or Tali or w/e on it in public, lol.

Favourite bands or that kind of thing though, sure.

Okay some parts of what I said is not entirely true. My best friend is a gaming nerd too. Problem is that we are like the opposite of each other in terms of taste regarding RPG's. I prefer focused story driven experiences like ME or DA:O, he likes the sandbox RPG's like Fallout and Skyrim.

I tried to get him to play Mass effect, but he stopped because New Vegas was released.

Worst part of it, he stopped just before going to Vimire. So he never got to experience the best part of the game! :pinched:

I hate my friends for not liking sci-fi. <_< They're playing gta, cod and such crap.

Sandbox games are great, fallout 3 is one of my fav games of all time, but what bothers me are crappy animations, bad voice acting, lot of bugs ... Those are bethesda's favorites.

If I understood that correctly, he only asked why femshep/Liara pairing is more common and why MShep is usually paired up with Ash, Tali and Miranda and not Liara.
