On topic: I think given ME2 cut off the original romances to new players except for the unique case of ME2 on the PS3 and that there will be new romances in ME3 that ME1 and 2 romances will have their own paths and new players won't be able to access them.

I support this in the case of Liara as I hope it will allow great specificity for that romance path but jlb524 did make a very convincing argument for why Liara and Shep shouldn't get together until ME3 in the old thread. A missed opportunity really.

I think I saw a tweet by Casey Hudson stating there were new opportunities to romance old LI's though I can't remember exactly what the tweet said so I might be wrong. I'm also not a big fan of being able to romance people you may have rejected earlier, even for RP purposes. I do wonder what Liara's reaction would be IF you could start a romance with her in ME3 though.

Shepard would probably say something cheesy like "I've been in love with you all these years since we first met on Theros" and it's obvious Liara cares for Shepard no matter how you treat her. But would that be enough to have her get into a romance in ME3 while she seemed reluctant to do so in Lotsb?

I'm in the middle of the whole, "Let new players in ME3 romance Liara/Kaiden/Ashley or not" bit.

I mean I personally do not mind what they do, considering I have been with Liara for the past two games and will continue to be with her in this game. Like the only way this could affect me is if they do something odd with the lines and stuff. I would hope not, I don't wanna wait till towards end of the game again to have the game realize "Oh ya, so you like this person."

As much as it's kind of funny they keep with tradition, the big hero gets laid the night before the end battle, it's also gonna be irritating in the third game for those of us loyal to the original ME1 romances espeially. ME2 Romances would probably feel a little annoyed, but I mean like.. those of us who had to fight to get Liara back, and even worse, the poor souls who got called traitors by Ashley/Kaiden.

She was reluctant in the LotSB because she felt she had to rescue Feron first. Like she had to take care of that whole situation before she could really be with Shepard again.

I think to some point she probably blamed herself for Shepard's current (ME2) situation. It was completely her fault in my opinion, I mean she was trying her best to help Shepard out.

Anyways, it's kind of hard to figure out what was running in that poor girl's head but it was probably to the sort of she wasn't sure what to do/think

The familiar thing is, that both Liara and Ariel Hanson are voiced by Ali Hillis :)

At first, I liked the idea of being able to romance Liara independently in ME3, but over time my opinion changed. Between players who've been importing and the ability to ostensibly pick Liara as a romance option in whatever Genesis 2.0 mechanic they've come up with, I think Liara's prospects for romance are pretty much covered in ME3, to the point where adding an additional romance arch would be completely unnecessary and at worst, draw resources away from the finale of the imported romance.

Now, what I think might turn out to be interesting is Liara developing a close relationship with another character if she is not romanced by Shepard. This I think would give Liara more strength of character. Because as much as I do love her, I hate the idea that she would have this great, unrequited love for Shepard that she wouldn't be able to move past.

They could just show (or use text if they feel lazy) that she has found someone else in the ending of ME3 (if she was not romanced in ME3). That way, people can start a new romance with her (if they want to) in ME3. But if she is not romanced. She will end up with someone new.

As long as that is not Feron that is.

Hmmm.... I think that it could be interesting to start out the relationship with Liara in ME3, perhaps death made your shepard revalue earlier choices in life and wish to give their love a chance. If it is a possibility I would certainly make a Shep for Liara who I roleplay as finally falling for her after LotSB. Likewise for Kaidan, a Shepard who follows the rules and doesn't romance any one on her crew. By ME3 she would then tell him how she feels and that she no longer cares for rules and regulations. Hmm... think that could be fun. I guess we will just have to wait and see how Bioware decides to play it. Somehow I don't see it as much as diminishing the the prior relationship as replay value =) wait and see I guess.

I agree that creating a totally new romance arc for players that are starting Mass Effect at ME3 for the old LIs would detract from all the imported romances. But if Shepard's relationship with Liara is established from ME1 onward not as an LI as such but with a single Shepard then possibly some different lines of dialogue here and there plus a different final scene could lend some serious depth. jlb524 explained it far better than I can though.

I'm still undecided on the second paragraph because of the timing being so soon after Shep's revival. Although Feron... there's always Feron. I'd like to see her develop some solid friendship though, that applies to all the characters in my eyes.

Thinking back to how Ash was first thinking of picking on Liara and her species practice of melding with others, and how Ash was concerned about Liara after her mom died, I think Liara already has friends among "the crew".
Also, Liara said that she ran into Joker and Doc Chakwas, and that Joker seemed happy to see her.
Aside from the snarky comment about the Vaenia Vid, I think you could call Liara being friends with Joker and also Doc Chakwas.

Liara is an easy person to like so I can see her having a few friends on board the normandy. Chakwas would be someone Liara could be friendly with, they practically lived in the same room aboard the original normandy. For Joker, I think he (like most young human males) kind of fancies Asari in general and therefore is happy to see Liara again. The fact that he mentions the Vaenia vid might mean he tried to flirt with Liara a little but Liara didn't pick it up? I doubt in Shepard's absence and with her Shadow Broker obsession she's done much flirting.

indeed she is :)

@Robhuzz
Well, Joker could have been like that in the beginning, but I don't think that he was still that way when Liara showed up on the new Normandy.
As much as a comedian Joker is sometimes, I think he knows that Liara is very much off limits (when talking about her being in a relationship with Shepard).

That doesn't stop him from asking Liara to record her and Shepard private moments though xD

Na I get the feeling Joker is just being who he is...a Joker. I don't know if he likes Aliens or not but maybe it'll be more apparent in ME3.

Doesn't everyone love the Asari? /uploads_user/1070000/1069890/28008.gif

But Joker is all occupied by EDI now. I wonder what kind of conversations Joker and EDI are going to have in ME3. Though it'd be nice if Joker found himself a girl between ME2 and ME3. Or an Asari of course. Though with all that's going on, I doubt it.

I don't think Joker was flirting with Liara. Judging by the fact that Morinth and Joker (two very diffrent people) have watched it. I believe Vaenia is a more artsistic movie with some really hot lesbian action between an Asari and a female human.

Since Joker most likely knows that Liara and Shepard has a thing for each other, he makes a fun remark where he ask Liara if she is visiting Shepard to have a good time.

That makes sense. I only have one femshep playthrough and it's been a long time since I finished that playthrough but I seem to recall Joker asking Liara if she and Shepard were going to act out some scenes from the Vaenia Vid. Seems it's pretty popular among the Asari and Shepard seemed to know what the vid contained as well judging from the head scratching and the 'Of course he did' comment.

Imagine what Liara must have thought when Joker asked her :pinched:

I think she pretty much expected that from Joker at that point, I am sure Shepard wasn't surprised either, frustrated. maybe but not surprised :)

I think she probably had mixed feelings of wanting to slap Joker with a Singularity and actually doing the recording.
