Interesting question. I'd say no, due to that being overused with Ashley. I mean skipper is a hard pill to swallow for me. I hope they go easy on that in ME3. Although my main is and will always be Liara for life, I have an alt that has an affinity to Ashley, but damn that skipper BS. Why couldn't it be something else... everytime she says skipper I start to think of skipping and fields filled with flowers. Very nasty sight.
'Skipper' isn't a nickname.
It is navy slang for the captain of a ship. With their nautical origins, Marines also use 'skipper' to refer to Marines with the rank of Captain, even though they don't command vessels.
So when Ashley calls Shepard skipper she isn't giving him a personal nickname, she's addressing him by an informal title for the billet he holds. (ship's Captain) It is basically the same as calling him 'Commander,' though more informal.
