Okay, I need someone to tell me whether or not I'm grasping at straws here. Read this excerpt from Mass Effect: Deception, specifically the italicized parts.

"The first item in the catalog is a Prothean Egg, which, when activated, opens to reveal a holographic star map. And because the map is not consistent with any part of known space, experts assume the system depicted lies somewhere beyond our galaxy, and must have been important to the Protheans.
"If so, and if the purchaser is able to figure out where these planets are, they might be able to claim a technological treasure trove so valuable the cost of the egg will be negligible in comparison. Bidding will start at ten million credits. Do I hear eleven?"
There was a bid at eleven, followed by many more, and a final offer of fifty-two million, which was sufficient to secure the elaborately decorated egg for a beautifully dressed asari whose face was hidden by a carefully draped veil. Did she intend to find the star system projected by the egg? Or to place it on a shelf where it would serve as a conversation piece? Leng didn't know or care.

Is it just me, or does this scream Mass Effect 3 foreshadowing? Moreover, who also thinks that this faceless asari was Liara?

I mean look at it; foreshadowing, a Prothean artifact, something that might come in handy, Liara is now wildly rich and could afford a fifty million credit purchase, and the fact that she kept her identity hidden.

Does anyone else agree?

Sorry Indigo. If you read futher I think you will learn that it most likely just filler, it seems to hold no real value.

And really, I would not put much faith in that book, it seems pretty awful.

I agree that it will probably be tied to ME3 and Liara is a possibility along with the Consort. I'm trying to think of any other asari that might be interested besides these two ... after all, the consort gave Shepard (in my game) a key to a prothean ball.

I'll have to think on this ... Interesting. Image IPB

I don't know, there wasn't anything that would indicate the asari was a casualty.

And there really did not seem to be anything to suggest that it was important. It just seemed to be filler..

And honestly Indigo, this is a book that has Kai Leng, the uber proffesional and cold-blooded killer dick around in Anderson's apartment eating his cereal instead of just leaving when he completed his task.

That and it's impossible even in the ME universe for anything other than Reapers to travel to another Galaxy. The technology simply isn't ready yet. I don't see how it serves any purpose.

It seemed very specific to me if it were meant for filler material.

You might be right. But seeing the rest of the preview just leads me to believe that the author just wanted to write in some item that sounded neat.

To me it reads very much like foreshadowing, yeah. Chekov's gun and all that. You don't have someone wearing a veil unless there's a reason for it.

It generally fits with Liara, though I would normally describe Liara as being dressed professionally rather than beautifully.

I'm hoping the Consort (really want to see her in ME3) but Liara could fit as well, just not sure why she would be there at all. Couldn't she just send an agent? Questions, questions.

This is the tie-in book to ME3 so we will see what happens. Image IPB

I haven't read any of the leaked script (and I don't intend to) so if this has in fact been mentioned then I'm sorry but...

There are a lot of things in ME that seem important but were never used in a plot device. That one planet with the tiny computers (My ME is a bit rusty from not playing so long) and the Leviathan of Dis were two things introduced in ME but nothing indicates that this is ever going to be cleared up or used in ME3. To me this thing with the prothean egg seems to be the same as the other examples I mentioned.

Though it might fit Liara to be the asari, logically, why would she leave her base to bit for it in person, when she could send someone else?

I just asked that question long time ago and I got answered that "this thing would be so important that she needed to get it by herself, so there would be no reason for her to entrust it to someone else" or something like that.

When I asked that we were talking about why she'd leave te base to join Shep on ME3. The topic went into the theory she'd giving with her some important data/object/info (insert here what you want) to help shep stop the Reapers, and I asked the same as you now.

I know we're not talking about the same thing, but I feel like the answer I got fits better to your question right now;);)

Do I have to turn in my Swedish citisenship since I don't know who half of those people are? Lena Olin was in a film based on a book by Jan Guillou, and uh... I know of Greta Garbo and know she did one of the first kissing scenes on film between two women. That's about it ^^;

Definitely Liara, I think =) The previous Shadow Broker seemed to believe the protheans were up to something else. Perhaps that thing can be found here?

You think the author thought that far? =D The book isn't exactly subtle, smart or well-written.

I just don't get how Feron couldn't have done that.

Because Liara has a penchant for Prothean artifacts, perhaps? I can't imagine she'd want to stay cooped up in her base all the time.

I'm a huge film fan so no worries ... I recommend watching some Greta Garbo & Ingrid Bergman. Both were amazing actresses and quite daring for their times. You know, like Liara fails to always color within the lines.

And Noomi Rapace is the girl in the original The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo  (Män som hatar kvinnor).

The original Swedish Millennium trilogy is really good. Haven't read the books though, but the movies are great. I really recommend watching them, for all of you, if you can just find a version with subtitles that are in your (whoever is watching it) own language.

Even though I'm Finnish I like many Swedish movies, like Martin Beck and Kurt Wallander movies. Also Henning Mankell writes great books.

...Just a little sidenote here, now that you started to talk about the movie Män som hatar kvinnor...

To keep this on topic moar Liara:

I never like film adaptations, but even I had to realize that Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth Salander, was pure brilliance.
Still, read the books, they kick ass!

Does anyone know, if we can talk to Liara in the ME3 Demo?

Well, you can here her banter. We know that. But you won't be having a Normandy Dialogue scene with her.
