The Widow? totally out of character....SMG, maybe an AR but the Widow?

They can use any weapon, but if I'm not mistaken, doesn't class determine which weapons they are most effecient with? If that is indeed the case, as an adept Liara is probably going to most effecient with pistols and SMGs.

I think sniper rifles fit Liara's character quite well in some ways. I'd see her as someone who'd be more calculating and focused, rather than charging into close range as you need to with an SMG. The argument against would be whether Liara has had any training with the weapon.

Though personally I'll probably prefer to focus on keeping her recharge speed up, which may mean she'll be using the lightest weapon available.

that reminds me in ME1 when everybody can use any type of weapon, but when you selected them to use, the game said "not trained" if the weapon wasn't effective with the character class.. so yeah as you said we can give her all weapons we want, but I think too that pistols and SMGs suits better with her

I'd have gone for shotgun (which she ended up using in ME1 breakthroughs a lot) - to keep enemies at range to take out with biotics.

I think I'll be giving Liara a pistol and smg/shotgun, AR could also work well. Ofc everything depends on if there is some kind of class bonuses for certain kind of weapon types, and how usefull and powerfull different weapons will be...

Sniper Rifle.
I don't think it suits her, but let's be honest, the Sniper Rifle in ME1 and ME2 outdamages all the Skills your Squadis have.
Well expect Stasis, but that skill is OP.

I just don't think Liara would ever survive close combat on Insanity.
However, I will test that in the Demo.

It would be cool to have a scifi version of desert eagle or S&W model 500 kinda gun in ME3, you know an over sized and over powered, clumsy but yet so cool and awesome looking frigging cannon with low bullet capasity, that would suit Liara so well. Beautiful girl with a huge gun . Although I think Liara herself would favor something compact, light weight and reliable. So that would be, Locust maybe, or that new N7 smg?

I think she can even go unarmed because of her Singularity... she can trap all foes there and make it explode with warp.. Such a bomb combo (Liara+Singularity) doesn't need any weapon XD

I could be wrong about this, but regarding the weapons:

Any class can use any weapon with the exact same proficiency. The only thing your class influences is how MANY you can carry at once.

Everyone (Squadmates and shepard) can only carry 2 weapons, and they can be just as proficient with them. The exception is the Vanguard (Who can carry 3) and the soldier (Who can carry them all). Some squadmates may be able to carry more than 2 weapons (My money would be ashley and james)

but being more skilled with one weapon than another is a removed feature for ME3, everyone can use anything and be just as good as everyone else.

As for what will I equip my Liara with, for me, Liara's greatest weapon has always been her biotics. Weapons are a mere formality for her, at best a carnifex pistol, and a tsunami SMG but not much else.

Garrus, his signature weapon in ME2 was a sniper and I plan to carry on that tradition on ME3.

Tali's signature weapon on ME2 was her shotgun (potent enough to intimidate garrus) so like the above, I'll equip her with one.

Ashley's signature weapon would be IMO an assault rifle, wherea's Kaidan would pack something a little more light, so SMG for him (got 2 shepards, each with a different virmire survivor)

and last but not least James............ I dunno, Assault rifle, or Shotgun, I'll figure something out

I'm too used to seeing Liara with a pistol or SMG. So those will be the weapons I'll be giving her. I just don't feel like she'd use an Assault Rifle, or Shotgun, or Sniper Rifle.

Infiltrator can carry 3 as well without penalty.

I will perhaps give her only a smg (perhaps also a pistol but not likely).

For storyline reasons because I get the feeling Liara never recieved any real training to use more "advanced" weaponry, nor has she ever been that great of a shooter.

And for gameplay reasons. The more guns a character carries with them, the bigger the weight penalty (larger cooldowns for powers). So giving just one SMG should reduce said penalty to the bare minimum.
