I'm celebrating by actually trying the multiplayer. I'm soloing, but having fun. When I hit level 5 maybe I'll join a squad and help kick some butt. I'm only level 2 now. Almost got through wave 3. Not quick enough to decode the last console before getting owned. lol

Field Work: A Sha’ira Shepard and Liara story.
Standing up to stretch, Commander Sha’ira Shepard, not that anyone was allowed to call her that anymore, looked around at the surrounding mountains of Eletania. The afternoon sun bathed the small valley hidden deep within the highlands of the region. It was an inviting scene, all but calling to her to lie down and rest in soft grass. Unfortunately, should she take off her suit helmet, the microscopic organisms in the air would send her into anaphylactic shock, resulting in her death. Still, despite the danger, the crew of the Normandy were taking a few well deserved days of R and R on the planet, well most of them anyway. While the rest were on board, Liara had begged her for the chance to investigate the rumors that a Prothean site may exist on the planet. It took some doing, but eventually Sha’ira had given in and allowed the Prothean expert access to the Mako. Shepard had gone with her, of course, to ensure that the young woman was alright in the rocky train. It had taken almost the entire day, and several hours of ceaseless complaints from Ashley Williams concerning her driving skills, but Shepard had finally guided the Mako to the coordinates Liara had provided. Just as the rumors had said, the ruin rose up from the floor of the hidden valley. Upon gently guiding the land vehicle to the ground using the jets, Shepard had turned a smug grin to Ash. Before she could unleash a witty comeback for the hours of complaining, Ash theatrically scrambled out of the vehicle and proclaimed loudly to the heavens that her prayers had been answered and she was safe on the ground. Liara had looked upon the scene with a confused expression.
“I don’t understand Commander; I thought that you handled the mountain pass quite well considering the conditions.”
Though she kept her voice steady, Sha’ira couldn’t hold back the warm feeling of pride that flooded through her body.
“She must be anxious from being cooped up so long without shooting something. Perhaps I’ll have her clean the barrel of the Mako while you work.”
That comment had caused Ash to glare at her.
Breaking out of her reverie, Shepard turned towards Liara as the young asari began to talk to herself. From what Sha’ira could hear over her suit radio, Liara was muttering to herself about some obscure fact about Prothean history. Moving closer, the commander could tell that her blue friend was deep in concentration as she examined some inscriptions that had been carved into the stone around this large Prothean ruin. Shepard watched as Liara gently traced her graceful fingertips over each of the character in turn, the sight bringing unbidden thoughts to her mind.
“Even in her suit, she still has the most elegant hands…”
Mentally recoiling at this, the commander chastised herself. Ever since her first conversation with Liara in the med lab she had found her mind wandering when there were other tasks for her to focus on.
“Damn it Shepard, this is not the time to let the excitement of meeting new species get in the way of work.”
It was a sentiment that she had repeated in her mind with increasing frequency, though it seemed to have little effect. Her newfound weakness to Liara had certainly been getting her into trouble with her crew. Ash had taken no end of joy in pointing out how much time she had been spending with Liara since the asari had come on board. Shepard had, of course, denied any accusations from her Gunnery Chief, replying that she was trying to help Liara adjust to life on a human military vessel as she had with Tali. To Shepard’s annoyance, these responses had only encouraged Ash to further press for details. After a while, Sha’ira had simply refused to talk on the subject with the soldier. At least the whisperings that Liara was dead weight had been silenced. Most of the crew had heard the incredible tale, from Kaiden, of how she had picked up a Geth Prime with her biotics and dropped it off the skyway on Feros. Sha’ira couldn’t help the smile that crossed her face as she remembered hearing the jealousy in Kaiden’s voice as he told the story.
Moving closer to Liara, Shepard tried to see what the scientist was studying so intently. The inscription was unintelligible to her but, from the looks of things, Liara was able to puzzle out at least a few lines. It certainly appeared as if she had made some progress over the last hour.
“Hey Liara, why don’t you take a break? This is only the second day; there is still plenty of time before the council reports back to me on their investigation into Saren’s activities on Noveria.”
Shepard was concerned that her friend was pushing herself too hard. At times Shepard felt like Liara was trying to justify herself to the crew on the Normandy. She had certainly volunteered to go on every away mission that the Normandy had come across. It was beginning to worry her, after all the asari had been trapped for almost a week. She had barely taken a day after settling in to rest before they had arrived at Feros. After that, Liara had pushed herself to work harder and harder on deciphering any Prothean artifacts they had come across. One night Sha’ira had found her slumped over at her desk, a data pad in her hand. Shepard had carried her to her bed at the back of the room, where she made sure that Liara was resting comfortably before she herself turned in for the night. After that incident, Shepard had begun to spend time with Liara after her shift was over. The two of them worked closely to work through the data on the Prothean discs the Normandy had picked up. Liara had been overjoyed to have Shepard helping her. The two quickly found that with the cipher now stored in Sha’ira’s mind, the commander was almost a walking Prothean translator. Liara had all but admitted her jealousy of the commander and the gift she possessed. There were limitations to her abilities however, as her understanding of the language only extended to dialects and characters commonly in use throughout the Prothean empire. Disadvantage though this may be, Liara was still quick to point out that she was leaps and bounds ahead of the linguists that had been studying the language all their lives.
Shepard blinked as she heard Liara’s voice call to her.
“But Shepard, didn’t we take a break less than half an hour ago?”
Sha’ira was astonished at just how badly Liara had lost track of time.
“Liara, our last break was over three hours ago. Ash has run more than seven laps of this valley since then.”
Liara straightened in shock upon hearing the news.
“By the Goddess! I’m sorry Shepard, I had no idea that I was taking so long! I hope I didn’t delay you for something important.”
Shepard chuckled as she raised her hands to still the panicking scientist.
“Don’t worry Liara, if anything of importance arises the crew knows how to contact me. I’m just worried about you. You have been pushing yourself since we met on Therum. Have you even had more than five hours rest in the last week?”
The asari blushed purple at her commander’s concern. Shifting to better face Sha’ira, Liara put her hand behind her. The palm of her hand came in contact with the stones of the ruin, pushing a small square of stone down as she placed her weight on it. Much to the shock of the two women, a much larger slab of stone opened to reveal a passage beneath the ruins. Liara shot to her feet in excitement and quickly made her way to the opening. Activating the light on her omni tool, she shone the light down the passage.
“Shepard! Look at this! By the Goddess, no one has ever encountered something like this before.”
Sha’ira could feel the excitement radiating off of her friend, and she could see that Liara was itching to explore the tunnel to see what secrets it might hold.
“Now hang on a second Liara, we have no idea where it goes or what is down there. We should wait for a science team from the Citadel, or at the very least from the Normandy.”
Though they had their suits on, Shepard could see the utter disappointment in Liara’s eyes. Part of her wanted, badly, to give in, but her common sense held sway. All at once, a light came into Liara’s eyes.
“But Commander, with this passage now open to the air, anything inside might degrade well before a team from the Citadel could arrive. Also, the microbes might infiltrate and degrade anything useful in here even before a team from the Normandy could be brought by the Mako. In addition, such an effort would take several trips. Who knows, this is one of the most recently built Prothean sites I have ever seen. It may even have information on the conduit.”
Shepard bit her lip. Despite the danger, Liara had a point. Not only that, but Sha’ira also wanted to examine the tunnel. Those long hours spent helping Liara translate the information on the Prothean discs had instilled in her a great interest in the extinct race. Plus, the way she was pleading with her was absolutely adorable. An image of Liara as an eager university grad student, weighed down with text books, came suddenly to mind. It was only with supreme effort that Shepard was able to push it away and focus on the task at hand.
“Alright, we’ll take a look. But, the moment I get a hint of trouble we are out of there. Got it?”
Liara nodded eagerly, her energy once again returning. Quickly moving to the opening, Liara knelt down and began to crawl on her hands and knees down the shaft. Shepard followed suit, not even bothering to stop and think where Ash might have gotten to.
As the two females made their way down the tunnel, Shepard found herself lost in thought. Her mind raced at the possibilities of what they might find. So focused was she, that she didn’t hear Liara’s

marvelling about how the discovery of this site would radically alter the modern schools of thought concerning the Protheans. In her own mind, Shepard was more concerned about the implications of what the data here might mean. If what Liara said was true, and information on the conduit was stored here, then their mission would be over far faster than anyone had originally thought. After all, if they knew where Saren would end up, why bother chasing him. The Normandy could easily make its way to the location of the conduit while the Citadel fleet tracked Saren and prevented him from attacking any further colonies.
Sha’ira was so engrossed in her thoughts that she didn’t even hear Liara’s warning to stop. All she saw was the asari’s hardsuit clad feet appear in her view. Alarmed, Sha’ira looked up, only to run face first into Liara’s posterior. Flooded with embarrassment, Shepard backed up from Liara. Her repeated apologies were broadcast to Liara over the suit radios and, had Sha’ira’s helmet been off, Liara would have been able to see a face that had gone as red as the hair that framed it.
Much to Shepard’s relief, Liara waved off the incident. Pointing to the end of the shaft, Liara told Shepard that her onmi tool was picking up signs of an air filtration system. Shepard could also see the glow of a barrier at the end of the tunnel.
“Be careful Liara, we don’t know what that system may do or even if there is any power to it. For all we know it might be just as likely to vent out corrosive gas as it is to provide a breath of fresh ass… I mean air!”
Shepard quickly squeezed out the amendment to her statement, though Liara still did turn to regard her oddly.
“Are you alright Sha’ira?”
Normally, she would have been annoyed at the use of THAT name. She hated being reminded that her mother had named her after a prostitute. Now however, she was so flummoxed that it passed without notice.
“Don’t worry about me Liara, I’m just distracted.”
Much to her relief, Liara let the matter drop and continued on towards the end of the tunnel. Shepard inwardly sighed. She looked back up at Liara and, once again, she was unable to hold back the mental commentary.
“That IS a nice ass…”
Catching a hold of her thoughts, she quickly remonstrated herself for another loss of control.
“What is wrong with you Shepard? You aren’t like your mother! Stop screwing around and get back to work.”
It took the two only a few moments to reach the barrier. Shepard watched as her companion raised her omni tool to scan the field that blocked the entrance to the room in front of them.
“This is odd, it seems that the system is waiting for something…”
Every red flag Shepard possessed was raised at those words. Reaching out, she grabbed Liara’s leg.
“Liara! We have to go!”
Stuned by the sudden outburst, Liara looked back at Shepard just in time to see a second barrier pop up behind them. Her eye’s widened, and the two could hear a hissing noise from their hardsuit’s external audio input. Both Shepard and Liara quickly examined their onmi tools to try to figure a way out of the situation. Both of them were surprised to see the concentration of the microbes dropping until they had been eliminated altogether.
It was only then that Sha’ira released the breath she was holding.
“Okay Liara, I think it’s time we headed back now… Liara?”
Looking back to her companion, she saw Liara had already entered the room in front of them. Rolling her eyes, Shepard moved into the area as well. Liara had already found how to activate the lights, illuminating the chamber. Spotting the asari, Shepard groaned in frustration. In her excitement, Liara had taken her suit helmet off.
“Liara, I don’t think it’s safe to take your helmet off just yet.”
The scientist turned towards Sha’ira, her face filled with excitement.
“Don’t worry Shepard I’ve check the power systems, the flow is stable and the reserves have plenty of power. Whatever this place was intended for, it was built to preserve the contents of the room for an extended period.”
Frowning, Shepard leaned up against the nearest desk. Her only experience with working Prothean technology had almost scrambled her brains, so it was understandable that she was wary of it.
“Alright Liara but if I tell you to put it back on you do it right away, got it?”
Liara nodded and gave Shepard a smile that lit up the room. Witnessing this, Sha’ira could have sworn that her heart skipped a beat. Blushing, the commander turned away once again thankful that Liara couldn’t see her face behind the helmet. Conducting a quick survey of the room, Shepard saw row upon row of shelving units, all appearing to hold what looked like data discs. Sadly, it seemed that an electrical arc had destoryed most of the data discs at some point in the past. It was a terrible loss to the historians, a loss that Liara would no doubt feel herself. In addition the discs, there were also several vials that looked like they might contain tissue samples or preserved DNA. Walking over to this area of the room she picked up on vial in particular. Reading the inscription on the side, her eyes widened as the cipher allowed her to translate the text.
Attican Beta / Theseus/ Feros: Species 49382-12-321-5492-01001 Common Name: Thorian
Suddenly the purpose of this room dawned on her. This was a kind of library, too small to hold the collective knowledge of the Prothean empire, yet too large to be some random home collection. She looked to the vials in the other shelves, quickly examining each to see where they had come from. As she went further in one direction, the samples came closer and closer to the Local Cluster. She had begun to sweat, her breath became quicker the closer to home the samples were. They knew that the Protheans had studied Earth from their base on Mars. Was it possible that one of those same Protheans had made a new outpost here? Her visor began to fog up as she moved faster and faster. Not waiting the extra few seconds for the automatic systems to kick in, Sha’ira released the clamps and took of her helmet. Reaching out she grabbed the next vial and read the label.
Local Cluster / Sol System / Third planet: Species 42136-01-224-0006-11111 Common Name: ****** Sapiens Sapiens
There it was, a possible answer to her question. This structure could very well be the last outpost of a creature that had studied her very race long before the first civilizations were born. Replacing the vial, she realized her foolish behaviour and reached out for her helmet. Moving to replace it on her head, she heard a sudden gasp from Liara. Turning quickly she saw the woman had both hands over her mouth.
Sha’ira moved quickly up to Liara’s side.
“Liara, what’s wrong?”
The asari turned to face her commanding officer. There were tears in her eyes and trailing down her cheeks. The sight made Sha’ira want to reach out and wipe them away.
Liara pointed to three discs that sat on the table in front of her. They looked like regular data discs, only far thicker and twice the diameter.
“These are Prothean Archives! Sha’ira do you know what this means?”
Shepard shook her head, she honestly didn’t know. Liara, not put off in the slightest by Shepard’s ignorance on the subject, continued her explanation.
“Shepard, most of what we know of the Protheans was gained from a badly damaged archive discovered more than a thousand years ago. To this day experts have only been able to extract less than one percent of the data, and most of that is fragmented and nonsensical. To be able to work with just one of these in perfect condition… Most asari scholars would give up three centuries of their lives for just a decade to examine the data held within.”
Liara once again turned her eyes to Shepard’s, the turmoil of emotions clear within them.
“Thank you so much for making this possible!”
Liara all but lunged at Sha’ira, throwing her arms around her. The commander was caught utterly off guard and tripped over her own feet. The two women fell to the ground, Liara on top of Sha’ira. Face to face, the two women were gazing into each other’s eyes. Shepard could feel the blush fighting to make its way to her cheeks as the more repressed sections of her mind began to weave dirty images. It seemed that Liara was similarly afflicted as well, a purplish hue darkening the skin beneath her eyes. For a moment Shepard thought that she saw Liara’s face grow closer, but then a flash from the other side of the room distracted them.
Sitting at the entrance to the tunnel, Ashley Williams held a holo camera in her hands. It was easy to see the devilish grin on her face as she laughed.
“Sweet! Blackmail!”
With that, the Gunnery Chief replaced her helmet and quickly escaped up the shaft to the surface.
It took a moment for the reality of the situation to settle in for Shepard, but when it did she was on her feet in an instant.
“GOD DAMN YOU WILLIAMS! I’LL GET YOU FOR THIS!”

Another story done. I hope you all enjoyed it, feel free to comment and let me know what you liked and disliked. For those of you who are wondering, yes Sha'ira is somewhat of a deviant just like her mother. Despite all her efforts to the contrary, she just can't help but fall head over heels for the resident scientist.
If you liked this, I also have another fic in my blog area that you might enjoy. Also, I have been writting in the Jack fan thread as well.
Once again, I hope you all enjoyed this little short. Take it easy, and have a good one.

I resisted ME for years, though my bro's told me how brilliant it was. I just didn't listen. Then I saw the FemShep boxart and was like...I can play that. I broke down and bought ME2 used for my PS3 and started playing through with none of that pesky romance business.
Then I played LotSB.
It was very frustrating to not be able to kiss Liara after all that. /uploads_user/1070000/1069890/28020.gif I scrapped that Shep immediately, and started over with a redo of the PS3's intro comic: >"I chose Liara." Heck. Yes.
Then I played LotSB again. And everything was great. /uploads_user/1070000/1069890/28016.gif
(Except mb for "Thanks for coming by." lolwut...)
I hope ME3 is chock-full of writing that good. Only 14 more days!

Why play with yourself ... oh, wait ... that reads wrong.
Maybe this week you can play with me and I promise to die ALOT!!!! I would make Conrad Verner look macho.
My first MP was today with with kumquats , Lizardviking & Korkki and they didn't give me a hard time for being DEAD alot. In fact, I suspect that they gathered at times ... hidden behind barriers and laughing at me getting crushed like a quarian! They were amazing to watch by the way when I was down!
Then I played a second round with hollow22_ & two mystery guests and once again I was "Quarian eat dust". Hollow kicked me a few times and threw a beer can at me even ...
EDIT: Enjoyed that Mr. Tanner ... thanks!

*Snif* Such a remark brings a tear to the eye. And it's nice to see there are actually normal people around here (well as normal as you can be when you almost worship a sexy blue alien that (unfortunately) isn't a real character)
Anyway, it is great to be able to come back to this thread after cutting through the dense forest out there that is spam and troll threads and pointless whining. 600 pages dedicated to Liara. On to the 700th:wizard:

LOL. Someone has obviously been campaigning for votes in the Kaidan thread, as he is far from being the most popular LI in the game. That is the problem with 'favorite character' polls. They only work if the poll is posted in a general thread and there is no campaigning for votes in the character fan threads. Otherwise what happens is that rather than getting a cross section of all ME players, you get fans of certain characters over represented.

Just got home yesterday from 3rd year students' cruise, man, I can tell you, that was just crazy. The whole ship (2000 passengers) full of 18 & 19 year old upper secondary school students. That's one reason I only had a couple of mp matches yesterday with you PMC, Lizard viking and kumquats, I was simply so tired
But anyway, that's enough of me..
Happy page 600!
Dunno if this has been posted here lately, but I'll put it here anyway.
