My thoughts exactely. I'm still wondering what made BW decide to make Benezia the only asari to wear some headgear. The outfit she wears in the concept art is also tons better than what she ended up with in game...

I still love that sig.

And I still think Mac made an awful mess of Liara in ME2/Redemption. If it wasn't for Patrick Weekes' near miraculous work in LotSB, we Liara fans would still be hurting pretty bad.

Anyways, so it seems we're going to be getting some Liara news this week. With Ali giving a surprise. I'm guessing it's a new picture of her. Or maybe Liara's going to be in the Mass Effect anima being made.

I had a recent conversation with someone where we were talking about squaddie-centric fanfiction which doesn't focus on the Shepard/Squaddie romance, but rather on other aspects of the character (for example: Ash coming up as a soldier, Jack's experiences before Purgatory, Miranda as the Cerberus Operative, etc.) These characters are so rich that it seems criminal that they be reduced to their romantic entanglements with Shepard. Liara, for example, was the daughter of Benezia, then became an archaeologist, started up an Information Brokering business on Nos Astra, and then became the Shadow Broker. Yet we never get to see those sides of her other than when it directly pertains to the romance she and Shepard have.

I was wondering if, in your travels, you guys had come across any fics that centered around Liara but did not focus on her romance with Shepard? Are there any fics where she's actually romancing someone else (not OC's or SI's, please).

I would say people often write about the romance and what happens in the games rather than exploring these characters background stories is simply because of it being far easier to write about something you have seen and know about. Also because most writers have an emotional investment in what happend in the game (so to speak) which again makes it easier to write something with a little "soul" in it.

Writing a new story completely from scraps (or with what little information the game provides) may simlpy be too overwhelming for many fanfic writers.

Pretty sure the complaints two years ago were by Liara fans who hated the poorly written cameo (and for good reason).

The complaints right now are from Liara-haters or those who do not like the fact that she is one with most plot armor and the fact she got a DLC centered around her.

I hope it's plot related. I really want to know whether the base gets destroyed or Feron takes over for the duration of ME3. Art seems far more likely though.

I'm just trying to think why Ali would be being there. I doubt they'd go into great detail just for one character. And that doesn't require her. So I'm thinking either it's the anima being made (which she'll do voice work for), or she's dressing up like Liara. Or maybe she's just being there, chilling.

An anime would be interesting, ugh the pic you posted is from Mass Effect Redemption comic, Dark Horse artists really don't know how to draw >_<

@Kadzin - I could not agree more! I hated Liara in orange and the facial drawings were really inconsistant but these are petty gripe for a comic series that at least went into Shep and Liara's relationship to some extent.

You thought the comic did a good job at exploring Liara's relationship with Shepard? I thought it was terrible.

Ditto. I hope Liara will have time for more biotic badassery in ME3. 

Liara's face didn't look right in the comic, which I thought was odd because I thought dark horse did a good job with the buffy comics.

For real, Patrick Weekes is a fantastic writer! So relieved he's writing the romances for ME3!

Anyone explain the child situation with liara and shep please? If liara did have children and shep was the father, genetically the child isn't sheps are they? They only have one biological parent which is liara. How would this work?

Genetically it IS shepard's child, the asari use different species to randomize the genetic code of the baby. Even if sources say that techically it doesnt match the father dna every source (Aethyta comes to mind among many others) show that when most claim they dont get nothing from the father it does in fact stand that outstanding traits of the other species comes to surface.

For example, say your most definitive quality that is artificial is the scales on your head, it will affect your daughter's appearance, not her whole face but it will.

Seems Patrick isn't going to be writing Liara's romance in ME3. Someone else, who wrote for LOTSB is doing that.
