Not all stories need to have the fairy tale ending.

I'll be honest.  I cried and felt it for hours after finishing the game.  I like the ending better for this than I did for Lord of the Rings happy Hollywood ending when the ending in the book was anything but.

1) if you died, you died for HER (you probably said so in one of the conversations)
2) if you survived, you only need to rebuild Earth, rediscover FTL (really fast FTL) and go get her [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/smile.png[/smilie] .

In any case, I bet that Liara is already pregnant.

I've alrady headcanoned Liara being pregnant.  It might be the first story I write when I get back to it.  Probably in a few weeks.  Still working on things mentally before I put it down.

Problem with #2.  You have no idea where Liara is and no way could you search them all.

That´s true... Anyway, I´m looking forward to your story.

It would have still been much better if they give us a choice: if we wanted a happily-ever-after ending or the present endings, which in my opinion are just plain depressing.

*spoilers*

- Shepard is either dead or alive, with his/her team stranded on some unknown planet, the relays destroyed and to top it off, no happy ending for Liara and Shep (them being together, I mean)..

Relays are/were a reaper tools. Without them, life can evolve naturally. Relays are just meant to make it easy to get to the Citated and to keep advanced races in one small area (the space around the relays),

As for "happy ending": I would love it, but as it is, I´m... no, not happy, still sad, but content with knowing that Liara is alive and maybe pregnant.

True, they would still survive without the relays, it's just that it would make space travel longer than necessary.

Still for the ending, a choice (of being happy or sad) would have been nice..

I feel very sad and it's been almost two days since I finished my first run.  I feel sad for Liara.  Shepard broke her promise of always coming back.  Liara loses Shepard for a second time.  I think she'll handle it better than she did when the Collectors blew up the Normandy.  Liara knows Shepard stopped the Reapers and gave everyone a future.  They have to learn FTL again and create a new way forward.

I'm not happy about the ending, but I'm also not raging mad about it either.  I am sad about it.  Sad that Liara and Shepard don't have a future together.  The Reapers are gone that is all that truly matters.

As far as I know Liara technically doesn't know that Shepard died, Shepard is still able to talk with Hackett inside the Citadel, so they know for sure that Shepard survived to Harbinger's attack. As far as I know they (Normandy's crew) possibly believe that Shepard activated the Crucible and Joker took the ship away to prevent being caught in the shockwave. But they never saw the Citadel destroyed or found that Shepard died.

Which also means that the star system where they are must be very close to Earth, and, hopefully maybe even in the same cluster (which will mean conventional FTL can reach that place).

So, EMS >5000 + saving Anderson + Destroy the Reapers choice, which means Shepard lives at the end may make possible an encounter in some years.

So, uhm... I just got back, haven't read all the pages written since I left, but... why is this thread still alive? Figured most people would've gotten depressed and given up on this by now. I know I have.

I just finished last night and have been absolutely depressed all day today.Call me lame or overly sensitive or whatever, but that last hour of the game has me emotionally wrecked. I mean, I was tearing up pretty hard during the whole saying goodbye to everyone portion, but just lost it at the end. The only silver lining was watching Liara get off the Normandy at the end, but then I got hit even harder when I realized that she's gonna live on for who knows how long on some random planet without Shep.
This game was rough, man. The one-two punch of Thane and then Kelly in my game... now this. Freakin' a.

Does this mean that I'm just a mark or that the characters were that great that somebody could care about what happens to them that much? This might be the only time I ever crave a DLC ending retcon, or at least another option.

I may be sad about the ending and thinking about it too much still makes me want to cry.  However, everything before that is almost perfect when it comes to the relastionship with Liara.  Some of the interaction between them is what I headcanon them to do.

It's going to take me a while to get through all the imports I have if I decided to actually play with broShep to see the romances I have with him.  Not importing the 1 broShep I have with Liara.  I played him very close to how I played my canon femShep, so why bother.

Ah, it's done.

If anyone is intersted, here is the link to my vid of Liara and Aethyta.  For some weird reason there are issues with the beginning scene, but all the audio is there.  Not sure what happened.  Link

Sigh.

Carried a character through all three games and witnessed a great conclusion to the romance only to have poor Liara left high and dry once my canon Shepard gets blown up. It's positively heartbreaking. Even worse when I try to imagine what their future would have been like.

I'm going to go mope and eat some happy pills before I get my maleshep import ready for the Ashley romance. And then go through the angst again once I finish it.

Siiiiiiiiiigh.

But if they are, what´s going to happen? IF the potential DLC´s not free, BSN is going to be a warzone. And on the other hand, Bioware has told their story, why should they change it for 10k people? (ok, money...)

But she probably can survive (the "paragon" option in her conversation is "change your name" or something like that... So those Cerberus soldiers wouldn´t have shot her, if I went renegade)

Yeah, she can. I missed the option to save her, though. It wasn't until several save files had come and gone that I found out about it. Not knowing that she would even be in danger didn't help.

Back to Liara, though, I wonder how her life span and Shep history will affect future titles ('cause you know they are going to happen... just hope they aren't an MMO)

*eyes the past 20 posts* yup. Sums up how I feel about these endings. I was dead set on getting Shepard out alive for Liara's sake, but i guess not. I get war is supposed to be costly and depressing, and these endings are supposed to give you some sort of hopeful bittersweetness for the galaxies future(s) ... but damnit screw the galaxy! Shepard deserved a chance at something better, so did the normandy crew (especially Liara, that could be bias).
And did anyone else get really angry/choked up during Thessia? omg probably my favorite level.

Yeah, I was really angry during Thessia... first at the Reapers, then at the Assari (that all temple bussiness) and then at Kai Leng. And I was sad for Liara... she took it pretty hard.

My Shep and Liara were in dire need of a ME2 style captain's quarters invite up and cuddle moment after that. Sigh, yet another thing to hope gets added at some point. It was small and ultimately pointless, but I didn't realize how much I'd miss it when it wasn't there.

I liked it but I prefered the genophage arc. I loved how erasing Maelon's data in ME2 was a decision that actually mattered and the game forced me to deal with tangible consequences. Namely I lost Wrex's friendship and trust when he found out and in the end Eve died directly because of my decision about Maelon's data. When the cutscene to her funeral started I was already wanting to own up to my mistake and tell Wrex it was my fault she died, and the game let me do that, and Wrex recognized that Shepard just did what she felt was right, and then they made up and were bros again! Plus Mordin's sacrifice goes without saying. My favorite part of the game, hands down.

But that's a bit off topic. About Thessia, consider this. When the reaper invaded Earth and Palaven, laying waste to their cities and massacring their populations, humans and turians (particularly Shepard and Garrus) are pretty much expected to accept the situation stoically, keep a cool head, focus their efforts. They do so. Liara on the other hand doesn't find it as easy to stay properly detached when it's her turn to see her homeworld burn. She totally loses it. I didn't expect her reaction to be so tragic. That said Shepard, Garrus, Vega, and the VS are all professional soldiers, and Liara isn't. They have discipline that she lacks and it showed. I thought it was an interesting insight to her character.

Thane's comments about how Leng almost got taken out by a very ill drell was quite fitting.  And the banter between Shep and Leng during the final battle was perfect.

The game started getting very emotional for me after Rannoch then hearing what Liara said about it what I did on the Normandy made me glad I didn't have Tali in the file.  I don't know what is in store for the with a complete import, but I might make the same choice again.

Seeing Leng toss Liara made me mad and want to kill the guy more than I already wanted to.  Cerberus.  Blah.

Now I know what scene Ali HIllis was recording when she posted a picture on twitter of the dialogue and all it said in bold SHEPARD!

They were recording the lines for Thessia.  Seeing Liara's reaction to finding out about the secrets her government was hiding.  The scene on the Normandy and Liara talking about her mother got to me.  Sighs.  Emotional.  I was already feeling like down from Rannoch seeing Thessia and knowing how it was affect Liara made me feel worse.

Well done on the writers part.
