Does anyone else have any theories as to Liara's complete personality change between ME1 and ME2? I think that it was PTSD, but I wanna hear your thoughts.

Completely changed? I wouldn't go that far, she was simply just less naive and dumb struck about a world outside of books and computer screens. That's what happens when your basically in a legalized, criminal industry. She was a like a kid in ME1, everybody has to grow up sometime, she is over a hundred years old. Yeah I get things go a little slower for Asair, but damn its been a hundred years, no one can be that stupid after a hundred years.

It has been talked about way too many times before. Liara did NOT completely change. The old Liara is still in her, she has just matured and become more independant and not relying on Shepard for anything like in ME1.

Which to be honest I find extremely sexy

She has changed a bit like the others above said, she has just simply matured, but if you have read the comics you know that she has a personal mission to defeat the shadow broker which is also in the shadow broker DLC i'm hoping that in ME3 now that she is back with us 24/7 that she might still have her ME1 moments

I wrote up my thoughts on Liara's personality a while back.  It might not cover exactly what you're looking for, 'cause it doesn't exactly cover her personality "shift" in ME2.

As many have said before, Liara matured.
Actually I think she was forced to mature very rapidly, think about it:
Shepard just died, the holw team broke apart, her mother is dead and she basicly has nowhere to go.
She gets contact by Cerberus (ok i am not sure about it, I don't remember how she learned about shepard's body being taken to the collectors) a group of Terrorists who they have fought before, and she has to go get Shepard's body. Then the whole Redemption story happens, she is forced to give Shepard's body (and since we are all Liara fans here, of her love) to Cerberus, Feron sacrifices himself to save her, and she is basicly left alone again.

I am no psychologist, but I can see why Liara had the personality change that she did. Even though her initial cameo on Illium was colder then the vacuum of space, LotSB made it all better, and showed just how much Liara has matured.

I think she was able to get over the mourning and the loss of Shepard in the end of LotSB and finally be happy again after 2 years.

And that is why I am excited about ME3 ^^

We've all come to agree upon the same thing, but how will she handle herself in ME3? What's her loyalty mission (if she has one.) She's been onboard with Shep' for so long she might as well be loyal to begin with, like Tali or Garrus.

I think we can only speculate on this.
She will probably provide some sort of intel, and take over as the ship's scientist and will be in the lab area of the ship.
Her loyalty mission would most likely have something to do with the asari homeworld of Thessia, or perhaps something to do with SB's ship, unless it gets destroyed right away to force her to move to Normandy right away.
As for, how she will handle herself... well all the players that stayed loyal to her would probably get some sort of fan service that's for sure ;)
Another thing that comes to mind is Liara/Aethita subplot.

As several people have already stated, she didn't change that much. Considering how she spent her life before and after ME1 it's not exactly odd that she matures a bit between ME1 and 2.
I never noticed anything odd, she just seemed older.

I will need this for ME3. ^^
I think Liara will be a mix of "I can handle the violence." and "How are you really doing Shepard?"
Empathic but badass.

I think it would be nice if she mirrored Shepards oppinions on things a bit, if Shepard is renegade then Liara would be a bit more ruthless and "badass"
And if Shepard is paragon then she could be more calm and cheerful.

Anyway. She has indeed matured but her personality is still pretty much the same as in ME1. It's just that she's put up some emotional barriers and toughend herself up in order to not get overrun in the ugly world that's information brokering.

I can't believe how much I'm looking forward to a game, just to meet a party member.

Indeed. The entire first part of ME3 I'll probably think: When will I meet Liara?
5 mins later: How long until I get to talk to Liara again?
Etc...

I thought Liara's personality change was well handled. And it was like it was a complete overhaul.

You all are going to laugh but....the whole situations reminds me of Samwise Gamgee from Lord of the Rings. Shepard was dead. Everyone else did, with good reason, give up. She didn't. Just as Sam refused to give in no matter what he faced, and so did she. Sam was the real hero of the LotR trilogy, after all.

Most people have limits. She doesn't.

I think it's a good comparison. There are a lot of heroes who eventually will depend on another character to save/help them.

With the new intel Bioware released on their website about traveling to Thessia, would Liara be the reason we are drawn there or Samara/Morinth?

I like to believe it's Liara, possibly a trial because the courts would assume she WAS the SB when all that crazy stuff was happening before and during the LotSB DLC.

"Well, everyone whose seen him in person is dead so..." -Liara
But since the ship is so hard to find a mole in the system could of pointed her out to the courts or maybe they traced and tracked her down.

But! On a non-Liara note Shep could be there with Samara and Liara to ask for their help against the reapers.

My point still stands. She was a total dweeb (which I liked) in ME1, in LotSB she was this independant badass lovable woman who I fell in love with even more!
