Well unless he modded his game, the only way you can romance Tali is with a Male Shepard. Also because he did not state otherwise, I'm assuming he is talking about the ENG version. For a male ENG shepard my preference is  Tali,Miranda, and then Ashly.

For an EU/AS Male Shepard it is Liara,Ashly and Miranda.

For an ENG Female Sheaprd it is Liara, Garus, and then Thane.

For an EU/AS Female Sheaprd it is Liara, Thane,Garus, and then sometimes Kaiden.(German Kaiden is just..)

So overall my favorite is Liara, but for an ENG Mshepard it is Tali.

It's okay Yuqi ... my favorite was Ashley but she was not open to femshep. Because of her I made a male Shepard and that is pretty close to equaling my canon female Shepard with Liara. So when I am on the Liara thread I speak in relation to EW Shepard and when I am on the Ash thread it's PV Shepard. You don't have to love just one.

My brother romanced Tali and it was sweet in ME2 ... I would have loved to see how it played out in ME3 but I can't stomach seeing the game yet which is a bummer. I used my first run Shepard so both of my main Shepards are waiting in the wings. If the game is "as is" then I'm afraid they won't get to see ME3.

All the romance interests have their moments - its a damn RPG, why play just one way - your only experienceing a fraction of whats being offered.  Go crazy!  Do it all! 
You can bring em into ME3 PMC... just...none of them are going to London is all - alt F4 before london!

But that's not really what you said earlier. You just said most people chose Liara because she can potentially have babies with FemShep.

maybe the having a child w/fem!Shepard thing was dumb, but it was an example and all the posts changed my thoughts on why people romance Liara but not my thoughts that a Liara romance just adds one thing that her character does not really need.

I've tried going the friends route several times but I simply can't do it. I'm too indoctrinated by Liara's character to turn her down in ME1. No, not at all!

I'm just saying you were being unfair in your assessment of FemShep players earlier. Just because we're playing as FemShep, it doesn't mean Liara's only cool for the babies. It means her relationship is every bit as meaningful as that with ManShep. It is awesome that her character is the way it is, and it would have been a poorer game if FemShep players were locked out of Liara romance simply because it would appear that players are only interested in her body. That's Tali and Garrus.

Like I was saying, the gender isn't important, it's the relationship.

I did... but I used newdefaultFemShep. I like freckles, I cannot lie.

It's armor. As far as I remember she's wearing armor and gloves during the entire game. The only exception being the 2nd part of the romance scene.

Maybe I'll do that some day. Right now I cannot play ME because, even though I have a well thought out headcanon ending in place, I cannot stop thinking about how the final game ended. Maybe in a few months or sooner if BioWare fixes the ending I could pick up the series again. Just for now I can't.

Is that from ME3 or Illium? I'm asking because I rushed through the game and missed some sidemissions. (going to replay ME3 when/it the alternate ending DLC comes out). 

ME2 on Illium (trying out flycams and such, of course with Liara). I think it came out quite nice, even though I say so myself, haha.

Ionno im still reeling from that stupid final hours post.  The evidence that this stupid ending was ...intentional leaves a really bad, forboding, hope suffocating taste in my mouth.  It pretty much killed any shred of hope I had for future DLC for me... or any sort of closure or explanation in regards to this entire fiasco.  Its basically a giant F U from BW to the player base because of our own (the fans) arrogance -  I mean the nerve of some people to request a better ending to something we didn't create.  You can't change art!  Gahd!  Wait...*frowns*

Yeah, I also had trouble importing my Shep. The choices and all imported just fine, but I had to recreate his face.
