I got the romance scene last night (still haven't finished the game). Talking about getting lost in the stars, leaving the rest of the universe behind and just being together... "I love you"s being exchanged... I actually had to send a thank-you tweet to @masseffect because it was everything I could have hoped for!

(Aside from, you know, bondmate bracelets!)

i think Liara does not need to be romanced to get the best Feel for her. she can be a great friend for Shepard. i think most people who romance her Choose to because she can still have a baby w/fem!Shepard.

what do you all romance her, if you do?

Hmnn, tough question. Originally  (I started with ME2) it was because I wanted to test out the options in the comic. When I got Shepard to illium it was like WTF, what a total.. bit*h. I tried out Kaiden too and horizon he just yeah..and his ENG voice is icky IMO.

Then I got ME1(German). At first I found her annoying, but then I remembered ME2 and the drastic personality change had me intrigued, so I bought LOTSB.

So I did everything backwards, and maybe it made me appriciate the relationship more.(Also Hales acting has alot to do with it..I wont lie.The German fshep can go die in a hole..)

As for the blue baby thing.. never really cared for it.

It's okay Yuqi ... my favorite was Ashley but she was not open to femshep. Because of her I made a male Shepard and that is pretty close to equaling my canon female Shepard with Liara. So when I am on the Liara thread I speak in relation to EW Shepard and when I am on the Ash thread it's PV Shepard. You don't have to love just one.

My brother romanced Tali and it was sweet in ME2 ... I would have loved to see how it played out in ME3 but I can't stomach seeing the game yet which is a bummer. I used my first run Shepard so both of my main Shepards are waiting in the wings. If the game is "as is" then I'm afraid they won't get to see ME3.

To me they are all Shepard, I mean I  don't put much thought into them at all. The only differences for me are  whethere they are paragon or renagade, and male or female. Whic is incredibbly awkward when I see how much thought other people put into their shepards.

I don't look at the paragon/renegade paths ... I ignore those to be honest and just play what I think that particular Shepard would do in that moment. But each Shepard for me is unique and they have different loves, best friends, likes, dislikes. While EW may be close to a certain character, PV may not like them. Each shades the story.

It's a shame that I may never play either in ME3 if the ending stands.Image IPB

A lot of people complained about Liara being cold and unfriendly on Ilium. She did what she had to do, and she did it for Shepard: and I feel that people didn't really know her very well if they didn't see how much growth she had to undertake from her ME1 self to get into that position where she could at least pretend to be ruthless.

EDIT: Does Liara say anything if you romanced somebody in ME2 and therefore cheated on her?

I tried to play like that, but I'm incapable of it. I'm just stuck in my Final-Fantasy ways I guess. I just dont understand how the Shepards can be seen as different people, but thats just me.

I missed all of the above, because I only picked up ME2 last year(It took alot of convincing because it's a shooter.) At first I had assumed she was a bitc* in ME1 as well, then I learned otherwise.

If you're talking about Mass Effect 3 then she just says that she knows you got close to someone during ME2 and asks if that's in the past or if she should forget that there was ever anything between you two. If you reject her she just kind of accepts it and moves on.

Here's a link to a vid of it with sorta appropriate(?) music.

BTW, has anyone actually not said "I love you" back to Liara during the romance scene? I'm curious as to what that option actually has Shepard say but I'm not exactly willing to try. :P

I enjoyed having a few renegade options in ME1 and 2, but for some reason, it's so hard for me to do so in ME3. I don't even try it just to see what happens.

The Renegade options in ME 3 feel more Dark Side than Renegade. I mean, letting Samara kill herself and than murdering her daughter, that's less 'badass hero' and more 'sith lord.'

I haven't even touched most of the renegade options. It's weird because most, if not all of my Sheps were assh*les and then ME3 rolls around and they turn into puddles of emotions. I just couldn't bring myself to be a douche when the galaxy was ending.

That was good acting from Ali there, especially the 'really' part. There were a few timees in ME3 I thought she was lacking, not many though.

What threw me in the last romance scene was when Liara said "You don't have to worry about that." She sounded very concerned at that point.

I'm coming up on TIM's base. Can't wait to be with my blue love soon.

Anyway, OT... I decided to quickly question Hackett and see what he has to say about GR. I've got 99% GR and about 6700 EMS. I asked him about Cerberus/TIM and get the option to say 'what if he's right?' in regards to control...

Shep's voice is way messed up and totally shaky/doubtful when she asks. Sounds like indoctrination to me. I've never heard her speak like that. Ever! It was totally OOC - or maybe it wasn't. *queue ominous music.

Hackett: "There is only one way we defeat the Reapers, no more Reapers."

Shep: "What if Illusive Man is right?" (not verbatim but what is on the wheel)

Hackett: "Kill him. That's an order."

Psycho Renagon FemShep has even more resolve.

Now to go get some quality time with my blueberry and forget all about this war crap for a bit.

Agree. I like how surprised Liara sounds when Shep says it won't work between them anymore. It's like she really disagrees with Shepard and wants to protest, but respects Shep's wishes too much to do so. :< I guess if you took an LI in ME2, she was quietly hoping you'd eventually come back to her. She says something to that effect at the end of LotSB, 'Maybe someday we'll be together. But until then... You deserve to be happy.'

Yea she was totally out for vengenance for what happened to Shepard and was getting really close to getting her vengence on the Shadow broker. After all he is the one who give dead shepard to the collectors. The 4 comics sorts of bridges that concept and continues to form her character from there.

As to your question I think she asks if you want to continue it because its been so long. If I recall you can ask her if there was anyone else in her life after your death. But I can't remember if she asks particularly  ask if you cheated.

I tottaly  coulden't say no in ME3 when that dialouge came up, despite  knowing I should.(Especially since the other romance was Garus..) It was  such a hard choice.. but I couldent  pick the other option..

Poor Liara. She seems to take rejection rather well but it always seems like she holds her disappointment back. :(

I wonder if its possible to reject Liara in that scene and then later get back with her or if rejecting her in that scene permanently friendzones her. I doubt the former but it would be interesting, in a roleplaying sort of way.

Hello everyone on the Liara thread! Been lurking for far too long and decided to finally sign up to BSN. From what I've read, everyone here seems civil and friendly, which is far more than you can say for some threads *shivers*. Anyhoo, I've gotten over the ME3 ending enough to stop feeling angry at the game, and just appreciate the 99.9% of it that was fantastic. Especially the Liara romance scene

Wow I didn't know that happened, I might try that next renegade runthrough. I couldn't save Tali in my last playthrough..(Which was a Paragon playthrough, go figure.)  I swear Liara was mad at Shep, and I don't think Garus will forgive Shep for it.

Despite how much I like Liara. And is one of my favourite Love interests.

She is really held above the other love interests in ME3. She has more romantic scenes than any other character.

Her romance is a fully fleshed out scene. And with blatantly considerably more effort put into it. Kaidens/Ashley's romance scene are a close second.
But Tali and Garrus's are horribly mistreated, only having a SINGLE conversation choice. And only being 30 SECONDS long. With only a few sentences spoken.

I don't understand why Bioware seem to apply *bias* to their *favourites*, and put less effort into the others. Treating them like *secondary* romances.

he recording I have is Liara and James on Sur'Kesh.  So when Shepard jokes about the yahg becoming the new shadow broker.  You only get Liara saying, "Not funny."  I took Garrus with me and he comments about it saying T'Soni.  I start to notice little things after a while.  I actually enjoy not knowing what all I did in the other games when I import more Shepards.  I know what it says at the beginning, but I don't remember if some squadmates are unloyal and still alive.  I did have a few playthroughs like that.  I do know who is dead.  I didn't take notes on who was loyal and who was unloyal.

I started a default ME3 Shepard and you get a totally different dialog in that scene on Sur'Kesh if you have Vega and Liara. Something about Flesh-eating monster free in the wild. Default Shep didn't play LotSB and have no active romance.

Actually, this playthrough is so different so far. Liara call Shepard Commander most of the time (sound so formal). Some of the dialogs between them is so different: the first one on March (make more sense than Hackett knowing she's the SB to me), her explaining the SB stuff to Shep, etc.

And I think it change a few of the ship interaction, because I got a Liara/Joker conversation (1st time you go see her in the Normandy after the Council meeting) that end with Joker saying that Liara became all ruthless since she became an information broker an Liara saying "Thanks..I think".  I never heard that in my first playthrough.

Now, I'm torn between romancing her or staying single *sigh*. She's just so nice (and ruthless).

Well, it's because they were the original 3 in ME1. I honestly think Garus has the better farewel, and 'date' scene. Liara being the favorite yeah I'm sort of unsure about that..

Those are some serious chops he's sporting. And he's bald! Clearly he's not good enough for Liara anyway. Hmph. After all she's done for him, I mean she only give him his life again.

I think if you don't say I love you to Liara, you say something like  "We both know this is goodbye" or some ridiculous defeatist nonsense.

ladyvader wrote...

I understand what you mean.  I'm not sure if I can write anything more around what I have already written.  I started a story about the eldest Kaja when she's about 200.  I think I can finish this one.  I don't know if I'll write anything new from what I was speculating about.  Not after seeing the ending and thinking about where to go next.  I think I have something worked out, but it goes against Liara being on the Normandy.  The Normandy can be on some unknown planet as long as Liara and my other squadmate(YTD for canon) are still on Earth.  It's either Garrus or Tali.  Not sure who.  Garrus is the more logical choice.  I have to think about that some more.  That might be the only thing I change from the game.

I can do the whole thing.  I'll always pick destroy.  It's the only ending where there is with a sliver of hope.  I picked destroy last night with 4000+ with Anderson dying because I wanted to shoot TIM.  Not doing that again either.  [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/unsure.png[/smilie]So no headcanon happy ending for Ash and Jaxx Shepard.

I think the Anderson conversation, if left uncut, would have been the reward. I daresay if they had left the game ending there, there wouldn't be half as much fuss over the endings as they are now.. But I digress.

Kaja at 200 hey? That's the Matron stage, isn't it? Mum will have to keep an eye on her.

Have you seen FemShep's bum? Mixed with Liara's "inheritance"? I imagine mum and dad would've had to beat off interested parties with many renegade punches.

It still doesn't change the fact that she has the *most* romance scenes. More than anyone else.
And has the most indepth. *most effort by bioware* Romance scene, in comparison to the rest. And there was a whole expansion about her in ME2.
Liara is BioWare's favorite. You might as well accept it. It is true. You can really tell.
Also the only character that can never be killed at any point throughout the series. (Not including crew members new in ME3) Is Liara.
