You can put it that way, I think neither of them would've made it so far without each other -> regardless if they romanced or not.

Liara is one of the most likeable characters in the game (along with Garrus) in my opinion. In ME1 Ashley seemed like a xenophobe and Liara had the 'naive but good natured' attributes which fitted with my Paragon Shepard. I'm glad she's appeared in every single game and my Paragon Shepard has had the opertunity to be loyal to her.

That 'quality' or seeming lack thereof is the key to understanding the ending. If it seems out of place, it probably is. The big problem with it is the feeling of dread and hopelessness it gave many players, myself included. It was difficult to go back. Once you are able too, however, you may start to see a trend in that ending that many of us have, and draw some hope from it. There isn't really 3 choices at then end, there's only one. Given there is only one 'correct' choice (Unless based on how you want to canon Shep, you let them get indoctrinated...), it's not actually the ending, but the beginning of the end of ME 3.

My only time playing through the ending I didn't take notice of what was there so much - as what wasn't there, and that's what triggered me to throw my controller at a wall and rant excessively to whoever would listen that I was a foolish gamer who brought an incomplete game. I think everyone in my living room and myself ...well this sums us up rather nicely:

ArchiveOfOurOwn is probably another decent one.  I know there's some fanfic on deviantArt, but they don't have terribly good search options.

@GODofWAR93 ... romanced Liara originally because Ash was not open to my femShep. I was a little hesitate about it at first since I'm not into aliens. But her character, especially in LotSB, really grew on me and despite my early hesitation the romance won me over.

@jlb524 ... oh, you know Liara. All of her dirty little secrets aren't hidden from you. Admit it!

Now back to work while another 5 pages is created of Liara.
