So, maybe I missed something, but why do I keep seeing "Little Wing?"

Did I miss some dialogue?

Benezia called Liara "Little Wing" in ME1 (it's her nickname).

In ME3, we discover that it originated with Aethyta.

I like how they wrapped up that story.  Especially the part where I get to threaten a matriarch with death if she ever messes with "my girl".

I never wanted to high-five Shepard so hard in my life.

Then I remembered the SB vids of Aethyta and started worrying for Shepard's safety.

I simply can't believe how Shepard and Liara are still stepping on eggshells romantically after 3 games. I'm not looking for gushy love, but you don't normally greet a lover with, "Thanks for stopping by." By the third game, I was expecting little blue children, what is Liara, sterile?

Considering she's a Maiden...yes.

Pretty sure Asari aren't actually sterile during the Maiden phase...just because they haven't got kids doesn't mean they can't. Unless I missed a Codex entry or something.

Ugh, you know what? I'm done with

I... I think I need some blue hugs...

Rest of the forum is just a depressing firestorm now.  I venture out from our Goddesses' safety occassionally and its never pretty.

Its more the fact that people are getting more and more vitriolic. If anything since the commitment from BioWare to do something its gotten worse, mainly because they won't say WHAT they're doing until April.

Well, even though "Thanks for stopping by" is a cop out, think of it this way:

Liara's
now the Shadow Broker. That's a lot of work/pressure for her. Shepard's
the face of humanity trying to save every sentient being in the galaxy.
WIth that sort of pressure on both of them, it'd be hard to find any
real romantic moment, you know?

And that strained relationship makes their few scenes all the more powerful.

I agree.

I
do imagine that there are times they spend together that we don't see
on screen but both don't really have the time to do it that often...too
much is riding on both their shoulders.

I think it would be a bit
ridiculous if every Shepard/Liara interaction shown in game was
romantic.  I think in my first playthrough I was expecting that
(unrealistically) so I was bummed that there was no romance in the time
capsule scene...now it doesn't bother me.

I kinda agree with all of this. Although I also imagine theres stuff that we just don't see.

I know it seems a pretty cold response. But its better if you take it in view of the fact that they don't get to see as much of each other as they'd like and she REALLY MEANS IT even though she is a little distracted. She's genuinely glad you came to see her, its not just brushing you off.

Thats how I think of it anyway.

Little Wing is cute, but It's just a thing I have where I can never call someone by the nickname their parents gave them. I don't want her to think of her parents when she's thinking of me. O.o

Yeah when i said that above i meant that they will be calling the kid that, not shepard calling liara sorry if my sentence structure was off and the meaning didn't get across, I'm kinda taking a half-ass look at the threads right now while i try and work on a little ME oneshot

I thought (with the exception of the freind issue) that the romance having some more cynical parts, made alot of sense. Didn't Alli get to work of, of  Jen hale in the dialouge with the  new recording program, or something?

as long as you do conrad's mission in ME2 and LOTSB all you have to do is talk to Liara then Varla Bon about getting the SB wetwork team and then Aetheyta should show up as a bartender in the cafe Liara's at

See... I always thought it was a conscious decision on their part to initiate a meld for reproduction. I don't think it happens by itself. At least that is the impression I have gotten through the codex and listening to Asari in the three games. Does it actually state somehwere that they are sterile jlb? I know it says they can move into the Matron stage whenever they feel they are ready.

Source? As I understood it (and as seems to be supported by the fan wiki) melding and asari reproduction are related but separate things. That is to say they cannot reproduce without melding, but melding does not automatically entail reproduction; it can also be used simply for transfer of memories and thoughts. Its very intimate, but its not automatically sexual; like a hug or a kiss or even something like a massage.

This is further supported by Liara's comment at the end in which she talks about Asari sometimes exchanging memories. Specifically she mentions "good friends or their bond-mates". They wouldn't undertake melding with mere "good friends" if it was entirely reproduction based. And theres no specification about life stages.

Edit: Got ninja'd on this as well:

Yeah, it's a conscious decision.  I think Maiden's are physiologically unable to do it for some reason even if they want to.

This wasn't part of the ME1 Codex but in Drew's ME novel, Retribution it's stated that Maidens cannot reproduce.  I remember Liaramancer being disappointed when that novel came out b/c it made having little blue babies impossible with her (as long as she remains a Maiden).

They can always move into the next stage if they feel ready...I have no clue how one triggers that or what it entails.

Though the stages themselves are part biological and part sociological since they are still individuals and are capable of making a choice based on their own criteria if they feel ready for it. A maiden doesn't have children but they don't technically have to wait till 350 rolls around to be a Matron, since they are physically capable of reproduction.

They kinda muddle it but if you're going strictly by biological terms they are physically capable of having children once reaching sexual maturity it's just there's no particular desire on most individual's parts to have kids at what would be the human equal of 14 years old and it's kinda socially frowned upon as well. For obvious reasons.

 Here's the passage from Retribution
Pg.  45
He (Grayson) knew the asari preferred to partner with those outside their own species; their unique biology allowed them to take genetic traits from alien partners and incorporate them into DNA of their offspring.  But Liselle was still young; it would be decades--or maybe even centuries--before she passed from the maiden stage of the asari life cycle into the childbearing years of matronhood.
