Because I think it would've been nice if they kept Liara's romance exclusive to returning players. That's what they did in LotSB, and I felt that set a precedent. Then they go and reverse that decision by opening up her romance to new players in ME3. It's not a big deal, but... it's not like us loyal players got much in the form of exclusives. Romances with ME1 characters would've been a big one.
I was Liaramanced all the way back in 2008 during my first playthrough of ME, ever since I have not been able to say no to Liara even when I was supposed to try something different for another playthrough I just couldn't bring myself to not romance her

, but I think it is ok for new players have the option to be Liaramanced too, just think of our PS3 brothers and sisters who did not got to experience the original bumbling massively cute Liara

, all they know is the more ruthless information broker that she evolved into, just by virtue of that they are already missing out, even if they romance her in 3 it is not the same I would think.

Between the two of you we'd probably have the Liara canon wrapped up for the Liara thread.
Also,
I fear if I ever decided to hop on to the fanfic scene, I'll follow
Bioware's canon, no matter how badly it hurts... I find it strange that I
don't want to rewrite the ending that much now..
In my own headcannon I have actually managed to marry Shephard surviving and reuniting with Liara with the horrible endings we got, I might put it down on paper someday to help me "get over" the trauma of experiencing those endings

But I digress...have some Liara!
