This should have been the Paragon Interrupt after the Thessia mission (lucky we have fans extracting the 3D models from the game and creating their own renders and movies, there's a guy on an imageboard creating an alternate ending movie with Shep and Liara settling down).

As for a sugar high ending, I think one's options are fairly limited:

ME1 introduces the scope of the problem (massive armada of superdreadnoughts), and ME2 does nothing to address this problem and was, in fact, entirely redundant. Shepard buying everyone time by blowing up the Arrival relay is meaningless if that time isn't used to prepare.

In ME3, we could not have the allied fleets just beat the Reapers due to anthropic principle - ME is, allegedly, Shepard's story and thus he will be the one to beat the Reapers (otherwise, it would be Hacket's story with Shepard as the goofy sidekick who wasted everyone's time on some prothean gizmo that turned out to be unnecessary). Given that no one has done anything in the 3ish years since the discovery of the Reaper threat, we need a deus-ex-machina.

This is where Liara comes in, and given that the only character guaranteed to survive the previous two games happens to be a prothean expert I can't help but think that this had been planned.

After this point, you can diverge from the plot at any time really, depending on how diabetes-inducing* you want the story to be. Again, though, since this is Shepard's story, you cannot cut too much but I suppose that that's where you'll find bad fanfiction.

My preference would be half-way prior to Cerberus HQ - have the galaxy's best scientists and engineers figure out how to use the Crucible whilst Shepard takes care of Cerberus, go to the Citadel and fire the Crucible and be back on Earth in time for tea and medals - happy ending without compromising Shepard's role in the story or, in fact, contradicting the game too much.

* Being a T1 I am well aware that sugar doesn't cause diabetes, although I am not so sure why that expression is used in English. German's more obvious - Zuckerkrankheit literally means "sugar disease". Never mind.

It's just an Old Wive's tale like "Apple a day keeps the doctor away"  although i'm not sure who would want to keep Liara away

And a damn big wedding ceremony, or for PMC, just taking the Normandy into orbit, making sure the rest of the ship gets shore leave, and then leave no corner of the vessel undefiled by their filthy copulation.

But, your version of events surely would have made the whole story flow better, rather than have Shep micromanage everything.

And with regards to diabetes, I think it's simply because T2 is more common?/popular or rather is directly a result of a high sugar diet, thus the term?

I don't know if this has been coverd, but essentially isn't Liara a half clone of Benezia? This is why the Matriarchs were haveing her watched. I just noticed in almost all the games she keeps saying that she is not her mother. on another topic I also noticed that after the gift Shepard has a look on her/his face and they just stare at each other then she says I love you. I don't know if that look  after the gift happens if you did not romance her but could that have been her way of telling Shepard that she is pregnant? Thoughts......

My $0.02 - Liara tells Shepard that asari will sometimes share memories ("gift" scene) with close friends (and their bondmates) so I don't think that's where the little blue babies come from.

On the other hand, there's some extra biotic glowyiness in the scene prior to the Cerberus HQ mission:
Image IPB
Depending on what you want to believe you can either explain it with art evolution or little blue babies.

I guess it's the subtleties in life. The half clone part I'm basing on the fact that the Asari reproduce by Parthenogenesis, but do you know if the look happens after the gift if not romance? just curious. and good point

I've been thinking about this "melding" thing again and I don't think it's as invasive as most think.

I definitely don't think you see all of your partners memories and thoughts all at once. I also don't think you can dig around in there to find whatever you might be looking for. I think what is available depends on the mental state of your partner. If Liara and Shepard are gettin' it on, Liara probably isn't thinking of that A- so Shepard couldn't see that. Though, if Liara's melding with my asarisexual Shepard, Liara could possible do some 'move' on her that might trigger a memory of her time with another asari that did something similar and that could be awkward...

Going back to ME1, I don't believe Liara had to dig around in Shepard's mind to see the Prothean beacon vision. Shepard was thinking about it and discussing it just right before the meld so it was available.

I agree.  I don't think the 'gift' was a baby...I don't see them doing something like that in the middle of a ruined, Reaper infested downtown London.

The pre-Cerberus scene is the best place for it, IMO.  You can headcanon that they discussed the whole baby thing before melding and decided to go for it.  The atmosphere is a hell of a lot better than London :wizard:

At any rate, Shepard wouldn't be so cruel as to leave a "widow" and an orphan at the same time, would she? And Liara wouldn't breach Shep's trust by not using protection, as it were, when she herself may not make it out alive?

Just food for thought.

Well I can only say for sure, that she isn't pregnant in my ME universe. This thought never crossed my mind, at all in my playthrough.
But the idea of Liara being pregnant after that scene, is quite popular. Everyone can make their own conclusion of the gift scene. ^^

Well genetically, she is somewhat of a Benezia clone.
But I think it's what Aethyta said: She is Benezia's daugther, she is officially one of the most powerful Information Broker in the galaxy (LoL, the Matriach's have no clue at all....) and she has 'shady' connections.
I think Liara in the role of the SB, lives in a moral grey zone.

I just think, they see Liara as a little girl, playing with a loaded gun.

How is a cougar defined anyway? Is it just any older woman and a younger partner? Slightly unfair, isn't it? Since it would rather make the asari a race of cougars.

Yew hoomans are all rayseest!

Of course, Liara dominates Shepard in bed every time... Just sayin..

I'm suprised you didn't mention what she might be doing under the table. It's so unlike you to miss an oppertunity like that. Unless you think it's implied and too obvious to even worth mentioning. Not going to let you know what struck my mind at first but..wouldn't be a hard guess.

Bittersweet fits better.

I don't see what's sugar high about half the galaxy dead, worlds ravaged, infrastructure torn down and civilizations torn up. Even the citadel gets wiped clean most likely.

So if Shepard not taking a dive at the end makes it sugar high, that's abit selfish, no? :o

I always saw melding as a shared joint experience. Like showing your photo album of memories to someone you care about. They can't just rip through the pages at will, you have to open the album and share what you want them to experience. Atleast to me that sounds alot more intimate than the "All you thoughts are MINE!" version.
And I'll assume the first time you ever meld with someone or you're inexperienced it's easy to let things slip..
Or it can be hard to hide or not show things that either weigh you down alot, or have alot of emotions tied up with them..
