I'd suggest finishing it, reading it and if it still seems too long then cut it down. But only after you're finished writing.

I always find it better to over-write and then compensate by editing stuff out than to try to cut it short. Editing afterwards means you can keep it balanced. Cutting it short means the start stays verbose but the ending gets cut off.

The problem is that I'm beginning to wonder if the story works at all.  It's been so long since I've written anything that my sense for these things has diminished.  I just don't want this meandering buildup and then the reader gets to the end and thinks "Oh, was that it?"

I dunno.  Just standard writer's nerves, I guess.

Aww, not you too?

I blame an outbreak of Liaraitis thats going around. Highly contagious and really makes you go crazy.

Thats because I can't pick one. I think the mountain thing is a good idea but I quite like the idea of scuba diving on the coral reefs off the back of a yacht as well.

Edit: Anyway, caught up now. Back to finishing that fanfic. I've been making little notes from this thread as well. Couple of comments have given me inspiration for other scenes.

Bleh, tropical retreats are overrated. After a while you need to deal with mosquitos. And.. sweat..

A few years back I spent several weeks scuba diving on coral reefs (FOR SCIENCE!). Isolated research outpost, almost pristine preserved reefs, not like the rubbish that tourists are allowed onto. I have to say from first hand experience it was pretty awesome.

Also whats wrong with a little Liara sweat?

I've got a similar feeling over this fanfic stuff I'm writing. At this stage I'm just saying to myself that any positive feedback at all would be good because I'm so out of practice.

Only gets better by practice. ^_^

Better idea: We play as the "little blue children"

The offspring of Shepard and Liara just has to become pretty awesome when she grows up...
Though I'd prefer to leave Shepard, Liara and any of their children out of a sequel. Their story is over, now they get to spend the rest of their lives together and in peace (in my headcanon ending at least)

Sure, but if the next ME is say like thousands of years past Shepard why can't we play as one of his grandchildren or something? It's obvious that if they make another Mass Effect it will have a new villain to deal with, so the world will need a "Shepard" again. Though you're technically right, Shepard's family should be left alone and live at least 100 000 years in peace while there is another hero to save the galaxy.

I thought I'd leave this tweet as a reminder for the future of blue babies... myself included.

Turtlenecks huh, hiding something? But that sounds like some fun, camping... Just the two of them out in the woods, I expect?

lol, at least the ME tweet isn't handled by a bot then.. And.. why the hell not? Teenage problems are specifically designed so parents have no idea how to deal with them, thus allowing the teenager to cause all sorts of problems while sorting themselves out. Rite of passage and all that. I can only imagine the chaos in the T'Soni household...

I don't think you have to worry about the ending being underwhelming. Because... yeah.

It's funny because even if the guy wrote back that he wants blue babies to #ME they won't reply anymore, so they will keep us in the dark.

I don't think Liara and Shepard would have any difficulty raising a few kids. No one would dare go against Shepard, and Liara is pretty scary herself when she's angry. Besides, creative use of singularities would keep the kids from breaking stuff in the house...

God I keep thinking how awesome it would be if Liara and Shepard visited Garrus and Tali (on Rannoch maybe) and brought the kids with them, with the children running into the house yelling 'Uncle Garrus! Uncle Garrus!'

Oh... that would be amazing indeed... Just keep thinking it:) even if they don't do it, we already have it in our heads which is the important thing.

I dunno...I remember driving my mum almost to insanity with my mood swings and constant self-doubt. With the personalities of the Shadow Broker and the Savior of the Galaxy raising two impressionable kids:blink:...God help Shepard and Liara.

Having recovered from my inability to edit posts properly, lack of sleep and the severe wounds from a rolled up newspaper beating, I'm back with a little contribution.

Then why are you hanging around outside like lumberjacks instead of in the tent?

Like I said...a bed. Doesn't matter where it is, if it's sunny or not, it just has to be big and soft.

Have a little faith. :P I bet that Shepard and Liara were awesome when they were younger and so should their kids be.
