I have NWN HotU 1.69 and CEP.
Installed several modules but none of them work as they all say there is a missing talk file.
The basic campaigns still work okay though and it's too much of a coincidence to be a problem with each module (I'm positive I installed every hak and file needed for each one.)
Is this a known problem?
maybe a prob with the CEP?

What is the name of the custom talk you are missing?
and what modules are you trying to load?

It doesn't specify which talk file, just, "A custom talk file is missing" and won't allow a character to be made/loaded.
This is playing any module that was written for HotU and CEP.
Played modules that don't incorporate the above and they work fine. That's what made me think it was the CEP.

If would help if we knew the name and or link to one of thies modules.
There have been many differant versions of cep through the years. Not all of them have all the talk files.
For a quick check. Open your tlk folder in your nwn folder and see if you have any custom talk files in it..

Many CEP installs put all the files from CEP into the current folder (typically the c:\\neverwinternights\\NWN\\hak folder). You will find the .tlk file for cep in there quite likely, and you will need to copy/paste it to c:\\neverwinternights\\NWN\\tlk - make this folder if it does not exist. This is the most common hurdle to catch users with CEP, so I feel confident this may well be the issue. Best wishes on that.

Checked the hak folder and it only has the haks I downloaded with modules.
The tlk folder has 4 CEP files in there.
Not sure what is missing now.
Just checked once more and the error is, "Missing required custom talk table" when I try to create or select a character for a custom module.

If you have a PC, load the module up in the toolset. It will tell you exactly what tlk file is missing.
"Could not find custom tlk file 'name_here' for this module. Some text may not show up."
Although it will allow you to open up the module in the toolset, simply click NO and find the tlk file you're missing.
FP!

Not sure but this sounds very similar to the problem others have had trying to play modules based on an older version of CEP (like the 1.x ones) which contain a different tlk file. So, if that is the case, DL the CEP 1.x and move its tlk file over.
I never understood why when CEP is updated it doesn't simply "drag" along all the previous files that still get used in the applicable content so these issues wouldn't occur. I mean, it's a monster DL anyway... so a few more fangs aren't going to pose any problem, right?

Thanks for the help everyone.
I downloaded CEP v1 and placed the tlk files into the tlk folder. Loaded up Saleron's Gambit Ch. 1 and it didn't say that it was missing a custom talk table. Instead, it said that it was missing a required hak file.
So I placed all of the CEP v1 hak files into the hak folder, but it still says that there is a missing hak file.
Grrrr... This is quite frustrating now.

Like I said, load it up in the toolset. It will tell you exactly what you're missing and then you can get the file and resolve this punishment you're putting yourself through.

The bottom of the page for the Chapter 1 Module also links an additional hak besides the CEP. Did you also download that one?

So the problem was that you downloaded newest CEP 2.X but most modules on vault are built with CEP 1 and CEP2 have different hak file names so basicall doesnt "contain" it.

Yeah, that appeared to be the problem. Some modules would work okay, whilst those that were built with v1 of CEP needed the hak and tlk files from CEPv1 too.
I also needed to download the latest patch for CEPv1, which was basically a hak file.
All modules have now bee ntested and work as normal using CEPv2 and the additional CEPv1 files.
Thanks to all who helped.
