Miranda is my canon romance. However I really do love Liara's as well. I think Liara has the better romance, and Miranda has the better character. I almost went to the blue side, but I just keep crawling back to Miranda.
None of the others really stuck with me. I liked Jack's Paragon however. I just don't see my Shepard's going for romance with her though in a roleplay point of view.
As for why...
I chose Miranda because of her strong personality. The way she didn't back down from Shepard, but still respected his accomplishments -- showed competence and strength. I like how she voices her opinions and defends her morals. She is a strong women with a strong desire/passion. I admire her confidence and intelligence as well.

Ashley with my first play through as a vangaurd. I thought she was an interesting and strong character. Miranda for mass effect 2. Way better looking and interesting than Jack. Jack was too repulsive for my tastes. Im still wondering how my cheating on Ashley with Miranda is gona play out in 3. Hopefully they don't tear the Normandy apart! ;-)

Tali, because she's the only one that really personifies the "Cute" girl anymore where as most of the others are heading for "Sexy", which is fine and all, but not my preference.
Liara would come in second. Still has enough cuteness in ME2, after losing a bunch from ME1, and got a major depth upgrade in LoTSB.

Tali was in the first game and the second, Miranda was only in the second, and the second game had more than double the characters. Looking at it from a programer's point of view, Tali and Garrus are going to have way more available data than any other character. Then comes Liara because of the DLC. Then everyone else from ME1, then, well, everyone that's left.

Yes, there's the voice (dat voice!), the outfit, how he snaps necks like a dancer, and the fact that he's part of Shepard's Team Sniper.
However, the reason why I really like him is because in my headcanon, their 'domestic' life, such as it is, is so boring it's awesome. I'm talking passing out in bed reading datapads, getting footrubs, watching old vids, etc. My Shep spends so much time getting shot at/blown up/saving the helpless, blah blah blah, that someone whose first instinct would probably be a hug and a hot cup of tea seems like the perfect dude.
I like the other romances*, particularly Garrus's, which has a quirky charm that makes me smile, but Thane is it for her. If he dies, I don't see her finding someone else that fills the particular space in her heart, the same way she'll never have a BFF like Garrus or the surprising friendship bonds she shares with Miranda and Tali.

Oh I don't expect you, or anyone, to share my preferences. Tali is no more interesting to me than any other character from a story perspective. Her personality though is more along the lines of the cute, girl next door you never noticed. Where as most of the other LI's tend to head toward Sexy, which I'll clarify, that there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I just tend to like cute girls more than I do sexy ones. So my Shepard does as well.
I like Miranda. I do have a playthrough with her. She's just not my preference if it came down to choosing is all *nod*

It couldn't happen. So I started a new game with FemShep, only to find out Again:pinched: the hard way, no romance with Garrus:crying:Now that I know there's S/S Romance, Restarting from scratch

The other with Miranda.
I played ME2, before the ME1 & chose Miranda.
After playing ME1, I found that I liked Ash's character also.
I couldn't decide between the two, so I made two 'canon' Sheps - one with each.

I romanced Kaidan in ME 1, but I "cheated" on him with Garrus in ME 2. I really like both of them, so I'll just see how things roll in ME3.

E.W. liked her sweetness but also her reserve, quick mind and emotional strength. There is more there than meets the eye with Liara. She is the only LI in ME1 / ME2 ... into ME3
Male Shep - Ashley & Miranda =
ME1 - Shepard & Ash are both military brats, spiritual, close to their families and soldiers ... he fell in love with her the moment that he saw her on Eden Prime ... once he saw her with the helmet off (love those lips and dark eyes) the poor boy was hooked for life.
ME2 - After Horizon left him hurt and confused he found comfort with Miranda. At first he didn't like her but after seeing her with her sister, he realized that there was a tender side to her. He likes her keen mind and yes .. her body. and her accent
ME3 ... He really loves Ash and knows that he screwed up. Unless Ashley makes the first step though he will probably stay with Miranda. He feels that he has hurt Ash enough and doesn't want to hurt Miranda either. The boy is really screwed and this is the story that I can't wait to see how it ends.
