Exactly! The ME1 version of Shiala looked way better then the ME2 version... I think they not only used a different color scheme, but also a different face and a different voice... Altough I am not sure about the last thing. It has been a while when I last played Mass Effect 1.

Yes, voice actor is also different. And that low-res outfit was pain to see, I guess Bioware hurried when were doing that episode.

I think she is voiced by Gwendoline Yeo in both games, iirc.

You are right... I just looked it up on IMDB and Shiala was indeed voiced by the same person in both games...
But I still think Shialas voice was a little bit strange in ME2...  Probably because of the Thorian spores in her body...

Shiala's voice in ME2 was bad. Same voice actress or not, she did a better job in ME1, it was more naturalistic. In ME2 she sounds like she's "acting". And the way she says "Zhu's Hope" sounds like overacting.

It sounded like she had a smoker's voice. In reference to your earlier comment, it's the same face. It's just the upgraded(?) engine and how it made previous faces look.

I mean, looking at one of my Shepards in ME and seeing her in ME2 I noticed that the contours aren't as smooth as they used to be. Another female Shepard happened to make it through the upgrade relatively unscathed. Just that the hairstyle is accentuated and I'd so love to change it.

same face but somehow I liked the graphic style in ME1 - despite the skin color - a lot more. Maybe her face in ME2 was a tribute to her disease.

She did look better in ME1 but she´s still great. Hope she returns for ME3.

I once wrote a little synopsis  B) for a - perhaps - possible introduction of Shiala in ME3. What are your ideas of a hopefully reunion of Shep and our favorite green asari:wub: in the last chapter of the first Mass Effect trilogy?

Where do I begin in telling of how important it is to me for Shiala to be a squadmate and love interest in Mass Effect 3?! It's like this. If Shiala is not an LI, then ME 3 may end up being the first game of the franchise that I play without having a love interest at all. :o I say this b/c my feelings for my Mass Effect 1 (Ashley) and Mass Effect 2 (Tali) love interest are -- sigh -- There's drama. There are things that have been left unsaid. There are issues that need to be adressed that may not have such a good resolution. And I honestly, I don't know where we go from where we left off. :(

But characters like Shiala and Emily Wong Represent for me: A fresh start.A clean slate. No baggage. And there is another thing.

- I TRUST Shiala.

- I TRUST Emily Wong.

I like the idea of Shiala being on my team and accompaning me on missions. Her point of veiw, perspective and skill sets are good selling points. ^_^ And I also like the idea of Shiala's sickness at times preventing her from joining my shore party.Finding a cure for her, having bed-side manner -- while visiting her in the Sick-Bay. Could be really cool.

I always thought the elements were there to make Shiala a relevant character when combating the Reapers, but I had some lingering doubts with the full cast of squadmates that were already present in the first two games.

In recent months have been heartened by the statements of the developers regarding the relevance of the choices Sheperd has made.

If the missions of Mass Effect 3 are constructed as compartmentalized segments each supported by their own cast of temporary squad mates it seems natural to conclude that Shiala could be joining Shepard’s ranks for a time.

I hope, if they bring Shiala back, they make her look more like she did in ME1. She didn't look very good in ME2. I'm not talking about the skin color, but the face in general. Green Shiala looked amazing in ME1. In ME2, notsomuch. This wiki page shows it quite well:

Totally agree. Not only would she be an interesting LI, but she's also a powerful Asari commando. Her skills could be useful.

I think the biggest difficulty Bioware has with Shiala is the killoption in ME1 which I (despite all efforts by some people to justify it) never really understood btw... But then again they bring back Ashley/Kaidan and other squadmembers from ME2 who all could have died in the suicide mission... Let's just all hope, that they do something similar with Shiala in ME3 like they did with Isabella in DA2.

She would be a worthy squadmember because of her Asari commando skills, her (unstable and probably kickass) biotics, the Prothean cipher, and her knowledge of the reaper indoctrination. If I were Shepard she would be the first person I would pick up for my squad...

I couldn't understand why anyone would kill her either, I always let her live. Along with her powers as a squadmate, if you "play your cards right" she does show romantic interest in both Shepards, making her a possible LI. Plus, she has Prothean knowledge. Overall, it'd be great for story and gameplay to have her.

Purple > Green

Keep in mind that the green skin tone is a sign of sickness from her time spent with the Thorian. It isn't her natural skin tone. Besides the fact that she looks better purple, I prefer the purple skin tone for that reason.

She would have made so much sense as a member of your squad in ME. I mean, you save the colony and by extent, free Shiala from mind control. She is a capable Asari Commando, who has the Cipher and is willing to help you against Saren. You should have had a chance to recruit her.

The purple skin tone is better of course (I don´t mind her being green though). I would love a chance to find her a cure. Maybe she could join Shepard´s team after that.
Hoping for Shiala as squadmember and LI for ME3.

Shiala said that her green skin tone is probably because of the remaining thorian spores and not because of her time spent inside one of these thorian pods... But then again this point is not entirely clear and she could be mistaken.
If her skin tone changed because of the spores then it most likely is a sickness, but if her skin changes because of the time she spent in the Thorian pod then it may be something else entirely!
There is a possibility that her time with the Thorian has some unforeseen aftermath. Her DNA could have been affected which would change her slowly. That doesn't necessarily have to be something negative like a sickness... It could just as well be a positive evolution with some minor side effects until the transformation is complete...

(but disregarding all this... green is sexy! Image IPBImage IPB)

Agreed. I would've chosen her as a squadmate over Wrex or Garrus.

In ME1 I always thought that Liara was somewhat naive, and childlike... She was nice and a good friend for my Shepard but as a LI I thought that she was a little too boring...
Then in ME2 she suddenly became obsessive, creepy and crazy...
That said... I always wanted to recruit Shiala on Feros, because she seemed like a kickass Asari and not a "holy, I do everything right, am naive and need protection" Asari...

As with the Rachni Queen the decision to spare Shiala occurs as part of the climax of one of the required missions of the original Mass Effect. This isn’t a decision the player can idly miss. The fact that Shepard spared the Rachni Queen I suspect will deeply impact a mission during the course of ME3, and perhaps a mission on Feros may hold similar results for those who spared Shiala.

I hope she (along with Gianna Parasini) can become romances in ME3. I don't think she will be imortant, though, as she can die in ME1.

Jaheira, Minsc, Edwin, Viconia, etc., can all die in BG1, yet they have really important roles in bg2-ToB. I don't see why with Shiala this would have to be different.

Well, BG1 actually has a canon playthrough, (Recruit Imoen, Khalid and Jaheira, Minsc and Dynaheir, meet but don't recruit Xzar, Edwin, Xan, Branwen and Viconia. Neutral Good-ish decisions.)

Mass Effect has each playthrough as Canon to itself.
