I think Shiala is a woefully underused character, and I would love to see her again in ME3. The woman has the Prothean Cipher, after all, that makes her one of only two known individuals (the other being Commander Shepard, of course) who have the Cipher. The Cipher was used as a relatively minor plot point in ME1, but I think being able to "think like a Prothean" and understand their language, culture, etc., is an enormous asset that so far has been completely on the back burner.

Shiala's cipher + Shepard cipher = Reaper technology unlocked??

'Fraid not. The Cipher only gives an understanding Prothean culture, it's not a database. It's more like a key. If there was a cache of Prothean research on Reaper tech, then the Cipher would give both Shepard and Shiala the key to understanding it, but not the understanding itself. They would still have to review the data and think it through.

If they bring Shiala in, I hope they can make her sufficiently distinct from Liara, Samara and whatever other Asari that come our way. That'll make her more memorable.

Ugh. Stupid logout cookie glitch. Retyping...

I think the asari characters in the game are already quite distinct from one another. Shiala in particular is quite unique, especially her voice. I prefer the voice acting in the first game, I hope ME3 Shiala is more like that.

She could be dead. I know people say that about Wrex but Wrex is a squadmate from the first game. Shiala was a plot point whose only purpose was to give Shepard the cipher for the story to move forward.

True. But I would be interested to know the telemetry numbers on Shiala alive vs. dead. I know in my playthroughs, she's only dead in my Soldier playthrough, but alive in all the others. Same goes for Rana Thanoptis, actually. Alestia Iallis is dead in every playthrough though.

I view her as being indoctrinated.

She might be, but if she is, she's reeeeeally good at hiding it. I see the Thorian's mind control as having broken Sovereign's mind control, and the death of the Thorian releasing her to her own control. Otherwise she may have passed on "indoctrination" to Shepard through the Cipher meld, don't you think? It is a sharing of minds, and that would be a danger of a meld with an Indoctrinated asari, I think. You notice that we did NOT have a meld with the one known Indoctrinated asari, Benezia. We got her info from an OSD, whereas she could have imparted it through a meld, along with all sorts of other relevant info. Of course the location of the Mu Relay was a lot easier to transcribe to an OSD than the Prothean Cipher.

why do so many people like her?

She's beautiful. The only other asari more beautiful than Shiala in ME1 is the asari Councilor, and the only asari even in the running in ME2 are Samara, Morinth, and Tela Vasir. There are a surprising number of "butterface" asari in the game, Nyxeris being one of the most hideous examples. Did Liara hire her so she would look hotter by comparison?

Shiala also benefits from "atmosphere". Her cutscenes on Feros have awesome lighting, and her scene is the key moment on Feros. Feros is one of the best missions in ME1 in my opinion, so her arrival at that point in the game definitely adds to her allure. And her identity as a formerly indoctrinated slave of Saren, and an acolyte of Benezia's, adds to her "reformed bad girl" mystique.

She's also a Gentle Warrior.  It's a nice personality.  She's strong, but loving; she can endure, but also show caring.

One of the admins over at the wiki persists that Shepard can also receive a kiss from her if he romanced no one else so far, although I haven't seen any prove of this so far.

I tried it and it didn't work. I swear that guy is full of crap.

I think the wiki is full of it. They make lots of assumptions and state it as fact.

I'm really hoping to see her as a romance, since I've pretty much wanted her since Zhu's hope.

To me, Shiala was always preferable as a squad mate compared to Liara, for a number of reasons. First of all,  I think she's more beautiful than Liara (yea, I know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder). I also find her to be a much more interesting character. The powerful asari commando who was betrayed by Saren and then tried to redeem her self.

I'd take her over Liara any day ^^

I think we'll see her, maybe be able to have a one-night stand sort of deal, but no I don't see a long-term romance brewing.

Well I've found my old account just to post this:

Yes, it would be awesome to have Shiala in ME3, she's my favorite asari character.

I'm not sure they'd include her though, due to the fact PS3 version of ME came out later than 360 and PC with that 'genesis' interactive comic thing that had only key choices from ME1, and ME3 is planned for simultaneous tri-platform release.

On the other hand though, devs mentioned something in the vein of 'ME1+ME2=1000 variables in ME3' so it's still a possibility.

Bring on Shiala! She's probably my favorite asari, very much due to the afore-mentioned "reformed bad girl" aura and the mystery surrounding her. The fact that she is the only other being than Shepard with the cypher could make for some interesting chemestry between the two of them (having those moments when only the two of them understand something).

I don't think the fact that she was left out of the PS3 comic should be any cause to leave her out. Since PS3 player have no option to keep her alive in ME2, then they just add a dialog option at the appropriate time that goes something like this...

"Random someone: Do you remember Shiala, the asair you met on Feros?"

/ I let her live
O - Remind me
\\ I killed her

Simple method to add the dead/not dead option. I hope Bioware addresses her fandom because I'd love to see her again and learn more about her.

I agree, Shiala and the asari councilor are 2 of the most beautiful asari ever! (Gotta love Liara in LotSB too, though.)

Ugh...Asari, why do I love you so? Even in my fully renegade playthrough, I could not put myself to kill Shiala...The only paragon thing I've done.

I hope she (along with Gianna Parasini) can become romances in ME3. I don't think she will be imortant, though, as she can die in ME1.

I liked the way Gianna kissed male Shepard in ME2.  I thought it was a cute touch.

I think its the facial tattoos. Very beautiful and unique. Compounded with that aura of wisdom she has when she speaks.

I will like to see more to her story. She became a victim and it will be nice to see her succeed in her struggle to save Feros once and for all.

i don't think that minor, non-crew members like her should be bang-able, but only for like, a one night stand or something. not really a serious love relationship

Thank you. I thought it was just me.  I have never seen Shiala kiss Shepard in any of my non-LI playthroughs, nor have I seen a video of this kiss anywhere on the internet.

Same here. She doesn't need to be a romance option, I just want her in the game so I can talk to her more. Any 'romance/temp squadmate' situation would be icing on the cake for me..

There is definitly a hint at romance if you see her as a paragon in ME2. "Lets get together sometime" doesn't have many meanings.
