"super sexy robot body" (Joker's words, not mine).

I sometimes wonder if the whole EDI body is just an inside joke.  Seth Green (Joker's voice) produces "Robot Chicken" and there's a nerd character on it that has talked about the "sssshexy robot lady" a lot.  Maybe they just thought it'd be funny to do to Seth ...?

more like because Tricial Helther(edi's actress) played a sexy robot on battlestar galactica (though the various 6's are nothing like edi)

my only problem with edi's robot body is the ****** in her alternative outfits (she doesnt have one in her default one)

Looking at Miranda and then at EDI, I've concluded that Bioware is stuck between two worlds in much the same way with feminism as it is with homosexuality. On the one hand it has a very large segment of the fan base that LOVES macho-action, the ass-cam close ups of Miranda, the female characters wearing high heels into combat, and frequent flirtation with the hero by women and Asari, regardless of Shepard's gender.

I, however, am on the other hand. I don't mind such overt "sexiness" in James Bond movies and games since femme fatales are a staple there, but the moment I caught the first "ass-cam" set up of Miranda and Shepard having a conversation, I nearly face-palmed myself to death. I already knew her outfit was "sexy" and the eyes had already observed her assets, but having Miranda take porn positions with her ass taking up half my screen was definitely overkill. And when I found out she keep that outfit on in combat...

If Bioware had established Mass Effect as a James Bond style adventure, I wouldn't mind the sex-bot, Miranda, and the Asari so much. But there are moments when the series has come so dangerously close to being ACTUALLY mature and realistic as opposed to "mature - 17+" and "graphic" that their unwillingness to abandon sexist sci-fi cliches because so... disappointing.

I realize that Bioware is in a damned if they do, damned if they don't position. The can be "bleeding heart liberals" or "neanderthals," "politically correct" or "cowardly." Add on to that the fact that their fan base can make news by threatening boycotts over endings they don't like, as well as fill the BSN with pages upon pages of personal attacks and conspiracy theories, and I find myself feeling fortunate that I will probably never be the producer of a mass market video game.

when I played through ME2 with my goody twoshoes paragon that had every one alive the constant miranda ass shots whenever she showed up in 3 made me glad she was dead in my "canon" playthrough <_<

Miranda's arse shots are just funny. I keep thinking it'd make for a really good drinking game - drink every time Miranda's arse gets into shot.

Well in that case this game would be a lot less fun for you than it would for me. Granted the combat would start to get difficult real quick.

LOL, when you take EDI with you at a certain points she should say "Don't worry Jeff, I'll be back."

wow, I'm willing to believe that story about Chakotay/Paris having a romance
but maybe I'm biased because ST:VOY introduced me to slash many many years ago *thinks back* ... like REALLY many many years ago ... I feel old now.
though I'm surprised Beltran being okey with it, wouldn't have expected that

as for EDI
I don't mind her getting a body, but I mind her getting this body
did any of you read the notes in the artbook?
it starts off with "EDI's body needed to be sexy, chrome and robotic, [...]" ... erm, no it doesn't!
if you go with the in-game lore thing, than it's an infiltration unit ... why does an infiltration unit have to look like the robot sex toys from other scifi movies/shows/anime?

are there really that many male gamers (I doubt they're doing it for lesbian gamers) that are so eager for a glimpse at boobies that gaming companies keep sexing up the designs of females in their games?
if they do it, then at least it should fit the character; I mean Isabela's boobs are well, they're huge, but it suits her.

I'm dreading to do it to stay 'canon' for MEC, just need to point this out somewhere at some point <_<

According to the leaked script...because she WAS a sex toy...that EDI questions if the Illusive Man has ever used. He didn't.

I didn't read the leaked script
so, thanks for clarifying ...
then the question remainds, why didn't they tone done certain elements of her look ... ah, forget it, it would probably be blamed on budget or time restraints

anyway, imported my Shepard into ME3 (finally) and acknowledged the romance without problems so far, but then I'm only in the middle of the Mars mission
there are some changes, some subtle, some more obvious
but it's the small ones that count *sigh*

I felt old the moment my grandmother pointed out I have grey hair when she was cutting it around Chrissy. And the worst part of that is that I am not 30 yet.

And about Beltran being okay with it, well from what I've heard a lot of character actors enjoy the chance to see if they are capable of playing a homosexual despite being hetrosexual. How we react to someone we are attracted to is so intinctive that a lot of the time we don't realise we're doing it so being able to fake that reaction is sort of the ultimate challenge to an actor.

Not sure if that excuse'd stick in this case, things lack details when it's budget or time constraints rather than having too many or exaggerated ones *coughEDI'scameltoecough*

I have a question, if someone would answer.
The wiki has Cortez's name as Steven Cortez, now, I might be a pretty sucky fan and all that and not have noticed that that was his real name and not Steve but I'm not sure if I've ever seen him being referenced to with that name before...

He was never refferenced as "SteveN" in the game no. But Steve is short for Steven right?

No, he doesn't. Rightfully, the Wiki should have this changed; it's an assumption being made not supported by any canon facts. (the former Wookieepedian in me talking)

In fact, if Steven was his real name then he would refer to himself as Liutenant Steven Cortez when he introduces himself.

Thought so, I've checked the credits and its Lieutenant Steve Cortez there too.

Thanks for the answers!

EDI is an homage to classic sci-fi, but from the 1920s or 30s as opposed to the later references we've seen before (ME had a lot of nods to the 70s and 80s in its art design, especially the vehicles).

Specifically she was described as a Mass Effect version of the chrome-silver android lady in Franz's Metropolis, one of the most celebrated sci-fi films of that time.

I don't think that was communicated very well, and she still came off looking like cheap titillation.

I think the point above about being caught between two audiences is spot on, although I wouldn't even begin to think that people who wince at frequent boobshots are anything like a large segment of their total audience. We're not. The people clamouring for more, and more graphic, shots of Miranda's gravity-defying assets are likely far more numerous. Plus there are a fair number of people in this thread who make similar comments about male characters, and surely if talking about objectification that should apply.

That said, there's a credibility gap between the self-proclaimed maturity of their games and the almost inevitable inclusion by Bioware of this kind of titillation aimed at, presumably, a younger audience.

Hello everyone.

I have a confession to make. I am not playing ME3, but rather Fable III. Why, because if I put some effort (and patience) into it, I can actually win (and yes I do view a good game ending as winning the game).

BTW why did all that talk of Tali's VA remind me of a story I heard about Robert Beltran quite a few years ago?

Daashi, this is exactly what I needed to hear.  I was on the fence about buying Fable III (I never played the series) until now!

Note that I did mention patience, Fable III can be incredible tedious at times. But if you want to play as a transgendered/cross dressing/bi-sexual Fable is truely the game for you.

Okay, how about being a transgendered/cross dressing/bi-sexual in a RPG environment. And as for SR, SR the Third sucks because they killed Johnny, Image IPB those bastards.

I meant that if they planned EDI as a sex toy originally and she was modelled already, then they might not change that even if they changed the story around so the body was that of an infiltration unit.

hehe, yeah I noticed there seems to be a certain amount of reference to Kaidan's ass, but then his ass looks good in normal clothing, he's not wearing this skin tight ... thing
why doesn't anyone ever bother to design armor for women where the 'chest armor' puts the emphasis on 'armor' and not on the 'chest' <_<

Hey if Miranda and EDI can have the typical sex-bot body and catsuit. Why can't my mShep wear a catsuit? Oh now that I think of it, I want that mod, "the catsuit casual wear/armor" for both m and f Shep. That might make the Miranda a*** shots and the Smara clevage shots more bearable.

Guess they decided to make her look like a humanoid robot only, because then it could be funny - you could take your sex toy and use it as a weapon, or actually a companion. Plus, it seems to me BioWare is trying to prevent the players from seeing too much in their games, as if those were for 10 year olds. M-rated is M-rated, for me, so why intentionally hide something?
Kaidan's arse... shame he's in boxers during the sex scene. I hope that some modders might rectify this situation :P
Maybe the focus is on chest there due to the fact that the game is mainly addressed to heterosexual male gamers or something :P

Did Jack actually say that!?!

I honestly prefer her; "You still look like s***" comment she ends Garrus' way.
