Did Jack actually say that!?!
Although, I never ever ever thought of the old EDI that way until Jack said that. <_<

Thought this may be relevant.
There is a thread in story spoilers forum related to this too

makes me wonder if at some point they actually had males, you know way, way back in their evolution and if Ardat Yakshi are something that happens if partners who carry enough remnants of that atavus DNA have children (hence it only happens if the partners are both asari)
And the comment about them being sterile simply refers to them being unable to give birth to children, donating anything to randomize the DNA as a normal asari 'father' would is out of the question because they tend to burn your brains out.
maybe some incompatibility that evolved over time ...

I'm still suprised there is no mention of male asari, even as a genetic mutation somewhere along the line

If there is male Asari it is probably more shameful to the Asari than the Ardat-Yakshi. So never gets mentioned to outsiders . . . ever . . . not even Shepard, seriously.

So if there's a race like Asari, where they all have feminine features, I'm wondering, will BioWare introduse a masculine equivalent?

An all male species? Nice idea, but how in the blue hells would that even work? Seriously how would they reproduce? Please don't mention mpreg, because then they are hermaphrodites.
"Female" and "male" are not entirely subjective terms. Female is the one which produces egg cells (and that's all, since there are no other repeatable sex defining mechanism across species), so asari have to know that.Criz-Zone wrote...
from an asari point of view they are certainly mono-gendered without any distinction between male of female. Their use of the term 'mother' and 'father' is probably just an attempt to translate their concept of the parent who gives birth to a child and the parent who was used to randomize the DNA code or whatever
Who says that they would look any different from female Asari. Something like Discworld's dwarfs, who all looked "male", only reversed.Daashi wrote...

Well... BioWare is competent in terms of space magic, so they could ome up with a solutionIn terms of impregnation... maybe similarly to Asari, so through a special kind of mental connection plus touch, but then giving birth... that part would be difficult, but probably not undoable...

I was actually thinking of that non-gendered species from that Star Trek: TNG episode, where they; "deposited their genetic material into a repository". (I know my spelling is awful but I can't be bothered to find a dictionary.)

IMO it's two different things - species with masculine (and "masculine" here means such only from human point of view) features and "male" species, which would mean that all members have only testicular structure.
Theoretically there could be species with reversed features (so, males have human womanlike features and females - manlike) or all-female or hermaphroditic species which looks similar to human males.

You actually see female turians in the comic books. They look just like turian males but without the extended head fringe.
