:D Yes, if you take EDI to Grissom Academy.

Although, I never ever ever thought of the old EDI that way until Jack said that. <_<

I actually wish I could remember who told me that EDI's eyeball thing looked just like a butt plug. Because it was hilarious and disturbing.

Actually both of the answers to your question is right, therefore there is no wrong answer.

Asari can become pregnant and give birth, they have female sex/reproductive organs therefore the Asari are female. However coming from a mono-gendered society they have had no reason to develop gender roles, therefore "male" and "female" have no real meaning to an Asari.

from an asari point of view they are certainly mono-gendered without any distinction between male of female. Their use of the term 'mother' and 'father' is probably just an attempt to translate their concept of the parent who gives birth to a child and the parent who was used to randomize the DNA code or whatever

but to humans who live in a world where sexual reproduction and two genders are common, hell even some plants have 'male' and 'female' parts, things are different.
There are species that only have one gender and they pretty much just 'clone' themselves, but to us those are considered all-female species. And thus I'd say, from a human POV the asari are female. Not to mention their appearance which to us clearly speaks 'female'

so, both would be true and it's just a POV thing, what irks me is that in concept art the asari are referred to as the ME version of blue sexy aliens and whenever you bring it up, some BW person goes 'they so totally are not female' ... if you make a sexy blue alien race with boobs, at least have the quad (or half quad, because having a quad would be gross on humans) to admit it ...

makes me wonder if at some point they actually had males, you know way, way back in their evolution and if Ardat Yakshi are something that happens if partners who carry enough remnants of that atavus DNA have children (hence it only happens if the partners are both asari)
And the comment about them being sterile simply refers to them being unable to give birth to children, donating anything to randomize the DNA as a normal asari 'father' would is out of the question because they tend to burn your brains out.
maybe some incompatibility that evolved over time ...

I always thought that the Ardat-Yakshi as the non-viable females (or half-clones) that a parthenogenesis species produces. I have always wondered if Asari were a species that had true parthenogenesis or is (I can't find the correct term) like Aphids, as in they have several generation of parthenogenesis with the occasional generation where some males are born to help increase the genetic diversity. If they are a pure parthenogenesis species were they always?

I'm still suprised there is no mention of male asari, even as a genetic mutation somewhere along the line

If there is male Asari it is probably more shameful to the Asari than the Ardat-Yakshi. So never gets mentioned to outsiders . . . ever . . . not even Shepard, seriously.

So if there's a race like Asari, where they all have feminine features, I'm wondering, will BioWare introduse a masculine equivalent?

An all male species? Nice idea, but how in the blue hells would that even work? Seriously how would they reproduce? Please don't mention mpreg, because then they are hermaphrodites.

Well... BioWare is competent in terms of space magic, so they could ome up with a solution :P In terms of impregnation... maybe similarly to Asari, so through a special kind of mental connection plus touch, but then giving birth... that part would be difficult, but probably not undoable...

"Female" and "male" are not entirely subjective terms. Female is the one which produces egg cells (and that's all, since there are no other repeatable sex defining mechanism across species), so asari have to know that.

Who says that they would look any different from female Asari. Something like Discworld's dwarfs, who all looked "male", only reversed.

I was actually thinking of that non-gendered species from that Star Trek: TNG episode, where they; "deposited their genetic material into a repository". (I know my spelling is awful but I can't be bothered to find a dictionary.)

IMO it's two different things - species with masculine (and "masculine" here means such only from human point of view) features and "male" species, which would mean that all members have only testicular structure.

Theoretically there could be species with reversed features (so, males have human womanlike features and females - manlike) or all-female or hermaphroditic species which looks similar to human males.

Hmm... that could work :) I haven't seen a single episode of Star Trek but then I guess that... impregnation would have to take place outside of the parents' bodies...

Well... I would gladly see a male-only species, but then it would have to be very technologically advanced, so that technology could help in reproduction, otherwise...
But I used the word "masculine" because I meant only certain physical features be that of a male, human male.

I always thought that the Drell would be the species that came across visually as all male, simply because as a repitilan species they have not outward physical markers (aside from colouration and maybe size) that would make it obvious that this Drell is male and that Drell is female.

You actually see female turians in the comic books. They look just like turian males but without the extended head fringe.

I don't read the comics, or the books. I just saw a picture of a Turian on the ME Wiki that looked odd, so I clicked and it turned out that is was a female Turian hence the oddness of the physical features.

the female turians in the comics also lack the plates on the back of the neck and will probably all die a horrible radiation caused death
there is mention of a female turian in the Retribution novel and I was so excited and then there was ... nothing - at least no description of her features, like Anderson going, she looked like a turian male except this, this and this or she looked nothing like a male turian; this, this and this is totally different ... alas, no info from someone who knows that canon, doesn't need three 'n's

in hindsight, if BioWare wanted to troll us they could have made Primarch Fedorian female
imagine being all hyped about meetig a female turian Primarch and when arriving there "whoops, Fedorian's shuttle got shut down, go find someone else, Shepard"

EDIT: trimmed down the pyramid
