He's been making fun of Kaidan because of all those growling angry lines he has if you talk to him in the Normandy. I have to keep reminding him that Kaidan is still a nice guy when he is in the combat missions and would not scare Garrus.

Ah!

I was talking about Joker. Kaidan doesn't, to my knowledge, chase after sexbots, though he does have that one comment about EDI being hot (really, dude? that body just put you in a coma). Joker does, and also makes a lot of sexist comments and jackass jokes.

I believe I read that Kaidan mentions that he dreamed of finding the perfect woman during his adventures among the stars (in the comics?), his jaw hits the ground at the sight of Asari dancers in ME1, he talks about how hot EDI's murder-bot body is, and, of course, if you're playing a female Shepard in ME1... -- Abispa.

...Yet still better than Jacob for straight female Shepard.

I feel so depressingly vindicated in letting him die on the Suicide Mission in 2. He and Zaeed were my picks for my canon Shep, as I didn't want her to have a perfect run, and I waffled a lot on who other than Zaeed would make the most sense for her story, and cost the least content in 3. I figured he wouldn't have much content, but I had no idea he'd actually be better off without what little he did...

I wouldn't have minded the Jacob situation if 1) male Shepard had a similar situation (oh, how glorious the BSN would be if LI Tali had a Quarian boyfriend -- the father of her baby). and 2) if he hadn't already been knocking boots with Miranda and Shepard and discovers he really loves Brynn... after he accidentally knocks her up. So... very... very... sad...

Kaidan digs the ladies, sure, but he's never disrespectful and dudebro-y about it the way Joker suddenly is in 3, and he would never talk about a teammate and friend the way Joker talks about him or Ash after the coup.

I agree that his weird Reaper hate kick is a bit new and out of left field, but it doesn't make him flatly undesirable, libido-killing vermin the way Joker, Vega and Donnelly are with their sexual harassment of fellow soldiers and gross comments on asari. Thus in the end, it's just as well Kaidan ended up an ME3 romance option for both Sheps, while Joker dated the ship he got Shepard killed for; he's not the partner I'd hoped he could be back before ME3 came out, when I was speculating that he'd be a good choice.

Also, I would take all the shitty endings and broken multiplayer in the world to have seen Tali dump Shep for Reegar or idec, any random quarian dude. Oh it would be so much better than just making her queer. THE DUDEBRO TEARS, I CAN TASTE THEM NOW, THEY ARE DELICIOUS.

Corrigan, wow, that's old-school, the Spectre's been through like three hosts since then. Or did they give him back to Jim after the Flashpoint crap? I broke up with DC when they gave Babs her legs back, I haven't been following.

Um, on-topic though, I know they're making Earth-2 Alan Scott gay, and apart from the usual crazies the fandom has seemed fairly chill about it. So hey, sexuality retcons, not a big deal even if they actually are retcons, which the ones in ME3 weren't?

Green Lantern's son Obsidian USED to be gay, but he no longer exists. I think. I've lost track and gave up on DC comics after the dozen resets of my favorite series The Legion of Superheroes. God, but I hated all the Crisis and Infinity crossover series.

I must confess that the number one (admittedly petty) reason I HATE the endings, especially "sythesis," is the focus on Joker. Joker and EDI smiling and holding each other at the end makes me... so... very... sad...

+1

"Shepard?"
"Hey Tali, I got this new cordless drill to help you build your house on the homew--Kal'Reegar? What are you doing here?"
"Err, Shepard, we need to talk..."
"Tali..." (looks hurt)
"It's just, biologically safer, you know, we still have to be in our suits, even on Rannoch..."
"But you took your mask off on the Normandy!"
"It's kind of like when you took that asari girl home from Chora's den, back when we were chasing Saren, and you kept worrying about something called 'space clap,' whatever that is..."

(okay, I know it's over the top, but whatevs...)

Oh, and I'd have traded Kelly, Allers (seriously! I can't believe people count her!), AND Traynor to have Ash. She's just so... perfect... for my femshep.
PS, I searched around and got a copy of the leaked script from November (didn't read anything until after the game came out because I had faith in BioWare ... what a fool I was, lol), it seems like they at least were thinking of making Ash s/s available but it was cut early on, probably so they didn't ****** the dudebros off.

Yeah. :(

It came up again on the last couple pages of the Ash thread. At least it was civil this time? :? Still pretty clear that thread's Not For Me. Any Kaidan fans notice any change in his thread, now that he's available in canon?

@Quething

I'm pretty sure that Ushanka guy is slightly trollish. That, or he's like 13.
*hugs*
It's ok, we can reminisce in this thread about all that could have been between femShep and Ash :)

I read the Kaidan thread but have never really found myself jumping in there much. Most of my gay Shepard fun has been on the Steve thread. I have not seen any homophobia on the Kaidan thread from the regulars only the occassional jackass trying to derail it.

I am sad the s/s Ashley fans were not catered too even though I probably would not have used it myself. I am mad that she never really turned out to be a sista to the female Shepard who actually let Kaidan die. At least Kaidan walked around the ship and did a better job as a bro if he was not romanced. I do wonder what it would have been like to have the Ashley VA doing the growling one-liners Kaidan was doing.

I am sure there are wonderful nice Tali fans out there but I really wish that happened just for the rage of the jackasses who kept trying to derail this thread. ESPECIALLY if I could hear the Tali VA saying "the Normand is your REAL love, Shepard" FTW.

I broke down and posted in the other thread. God help me, there is no point at this point, why can't I leave well enough alone.

You know, there was a fill on the kink meme a while ago where Ashley and femShep are all in the closet because Ashley's mom is super homophobic, and Hannah spills the beans and there's a huge family feud and Ash and Shep break up and loldrama, and it was all very unsubtle and unrealistic even for the late 20th century, much less the late 22nd. It actually tripped my embarassment squick on the author's behalf. But it did get me wondering how Ashley's family would actually react to her dating femShep. They'd certainly be expecting her to bring home a guy, so I bet there'd be some hardcore teasing, and I actually *can* envision her mom saying something innocently thoughtless. (Probably wouldn't be as awkward as Garrus bringing home a human Spectre, regardless of gender, to his father, of course.)

The way sexuality is portrayed via other characters suggest that by the time of Mass Effect (almost 200 years in the future), it's just a trivial aspect of your personality. So I'm not sure Ash bringing home femShep would have been a big deal. The cut dialogue lines seemed to suggest that too :(

I’d say it’ll be a trivial aspect at least in the ‘west’ before 2100 :)

Well, unless we come up with something that significantly extends life spans of the current generations, anyway.

Eh, I sincerely doubt that. Mass Effect makes it pretty clear that even racism and sexism aren't gone. Or where are all the women in power? Why do people support Cerberus? Why does Ashley talk about female soldiers like they're still just barely proving themselves? And queer-positive progress is a decent step behind those two in the 21st century, no reason to think it would somehow get ahead in the next hundred years.

Homophobia in ME's time would be like racism and sexism today; not overt, not blatant, only fringe groups and wackos would actually flat-out say things like "gay people are sick and sinful." The stigma of being called homophobic, or using blatant slurs, would be significant, just like accusations of racism to public officials or the flat horror people have for racial slurs today. But it would still be there in subtle and pervasive ways; glass ceilings, heterocentric stereotypes, adoption statistics, underrepresentation in popular culture, a whole bunch of little things that queer people complain about and straight people don't notice or believe because "homophobia is over."

Would Ash bringing home femShep to an apparently somewhat conservative family be a big deal? No, of course not. A surprise, certainly, like I said - it seems pretty clear her family expects her to chase dudes - but none of them are going to be like "eew wtf sicko." But, is there still a good chance that someone will say something awkward and stupid at some point, much the way my best friend's father used to say awkward and stupid crap like "so you like that rap music?" when she was dating a black dude? I suspect definitely yes.

I was talking about the way Cortez just casually mentions that he had a husband. I suppose it could hypothetically be similar like it is today in the US, where it really depends on where you are.

Oh god, same here. Synthesis ending is the only reason why I got angry. After I accidentaly trigerred it and saw Joker and Edi holding each other.... And then, I actually liked Destroy ending and found solace in it because it gave me the option to get rid of Edi. After I had to tolerate her the whole game.

I hate what they did with Joker in ME3. I mean, he was so awesome and suddenly he became such a jerk. I was quite happy that I could get angry at him after his Thessia remark. I feel like my Shep and Joker lost quite of their friendsip in ME3 (right after he friendzoned her).

But I agree so much sexual harasment. I had no ide why Gabby would like guy as Donelly, with his rather stupid remarks about women aboard the Normandy.
And Lola. What kind of commanding officer would allow her subordinate to call her Lola. It sounds like a stripper name.

Sad thing is, main!Shep would have been pretty happy with "Loco." She is batspit crazy, it would have been really fitting.

(I honestly think "Lola" is the worst example of "dudeShep is canon" since Legion's armor. They so, so clearly put actual thought into "Loco" and found a name that really fit for any Shepard... and then were like "uh, crap. What's a Spanish word that we can use for a woman? Uh... Lola's got the same L sound and number of syllables, let's go with that." :side-eyes BioWare: )

At least there's the option to shut down Vega's borderline-insubordinate nicknaming. I remember no such thing when he's commenting on being distracted on missions and staring at Shepard's chest.

As if I needed another reason not to take him anywhere.

They are both good friends, and Donelly is always kidding when he says those things. They have been through a lot  and they spend almost all the time together.

I can't even enjoy beating the crap out of him when he first comes on board, because it forces Shepard to agree he did the right thing by letting his squad die over data. :pinched:

I have to admit that I probably like Vega more than I should because his thread was one of the most fun on the BSN for the longest time pre-game release. The guy was obviously designed to be the Halo-dude in the game, but his thread was the girly-est and gay-est thread in existence since most fans assumed he would be a LI for female and/or the Bioware "bi" guy.

Yeah, he's a dog, which would have made it a bit less of sexual harassment on Shepard's part if he WAS a LI for female Shepard. Otherwise they would have him stumbling over himself like past LIs or have female Shepard go into predator mode like she can with Kelly and Samantha. In hindsight I would have preferred if he were a LI for female Shepard ALONG WITH the option tell him to shape up and be professional. And if he were a muscle-bound Zevran and treated male Shepard like he does female Shepard, this thread would be so... damn... sad/awesome...

Can you imagine a scene where Vega looks down and says something like, "Wow! Look at the size of your unit! Just sayin'!"

As for the randy Scotsman, or, as I like to call him, the other annoying immature ****, I have only one save where he acts like a perv. In all my other ones he's pretty much all business. I assume because Shepard must have told him "this ship is MILITARY" back in ME2.

I always took that scene as a "you didn't do anything wrong" rather than "you made THE good decision." Given Vega's perspective on that mission, it was a logical and understandable decision to make.
