Coming out and knowing what you are is a different thing. Do you think these guys didn't know they were gay/bi when marrying these women? 99% of them did, but they've tried to change or thought marriage would solve their problems. That's an unfortunate truth.Time4Tiddy wrote...
It may depend on where you live and your current age. I'm 35 myself, and I can tell you that in Minnesota you would not believe the number of guys that are just coming out in their 30s after being married for ten years and having a bunch of kids. I do think it's less likely for guys who are 20 -right now- to use that argument, but guys who are older it's still happening a lot.
But in order to make it work this way in ME, we would have to see/hear it in the world. So far, we didn't see any kind of homophobia really. If they start building a story how the universe in ME is not very accepting etc, it suddenly turns into a much bigger than necessary explanation of a character's feelings, where it can be a simple "I didn't know you liked men" (in Kaidan's case, that's already a fact actually! He says it to FemShep when she gets involved with Liara that he didn't realize she preferred other women). The only character I see "I didn't realize I liked men" working is Garrus, since with him it's a case of an entirely different species and its culture etc. In this case, its realistic he may not have thought about humans in sexual way before suggestion from Shep.Time4Tiddy wrote...
Also, consider that in humanity's past, there have been plenty of times where homosexuality was no big deal. Ancient Greece we're talking thousands of years ago where every young man had an older gay lover. Native Americans celebrated the two-spirits as shamans and prophets. The early Christian Church married same-sex couples. And yet here we are in 2011 with teaparty republicans winning elections using gay panic. There's is no guarantee that 150 years from now we'll be more enlightened and more accepting. Not that I'm being pessimistic, just that I'm saying the future we've been shown doesn't necessarily imply that you'd be comfortable with your sexuality and being open about it, and just extrapolating that we'll be more liberal in 150 years as a matter of course is a bit illogical given human history. We've been told that Earth is basically a bunch of slums with a huge gap between rich and poor. Sounds like the end result of increasingly conservative/republican/teaparty system to me.
Are you suggesting I've been totally PMing Marque and begging her for more detailed recount?makenzieshepard wrote...
Thanks for the full report MarqueAZ and sorry for any trouble/pestering the first report may have caused you. I'm pretty sure you're going to be nominated for some sort of FFTL sainthood

Understand but personally, I don't see any problem with this honestly. It's kinda like saying we were too stupid to figure out Vader was Luke's father. Not all information about characters is revealed immediately, at once when we meet them/in the first part of the story. Characters may have reasons not to reveal them, or perhaps it just happened to not be revealed and is simply a progress in the arch. Likewise, I never had a problem with Tali revealing she had a crush on Shep (and he didn't figure it out) in ME1. I thought it was well executed.Time4Tiddy wrote...

Honestly, you don't believe Raphael? That BW themselvews did mention to him that Kaidan will have s/s romance in ME3 like he said they did? I can understand if someone's unsure will it make into the game in the end (time constraints etc) but the fact they're working on it at this stage is beyond question IMO. Esp. after confrming just last month s/s romances.Dhiro wrote...
I won't really believe Kaidan is the s/s option until a dev confirm it.

Huge muscles + no personality = meathead. Granted they might make Vega the most interesting and nuanced character yet, but why make him the most overly muscled character in all of the ME universe if they are going for great personality?
Which is somtehing I don't think will happen IMO. It's already part of the story that he assumes Shep is straight, so he won't start any flirting until Shep reveals "I'm gay Kaidan! :D".Time4Tiddy wrote...
Heh, well I consider the Tali confession to be sufficient "explanation." I think I'm not saying exactly what I mean. I agree it's possible that it didn't come up for whatever reason or that he was always gay and it just wasn't a conversation option, etc. etc. But if the first conversation with Kaidan includes some flirtatious dialogue as if it's always been part of how you interact with him, THAT'S what I'm not okay with. That's what I mean by making him a s/s love interest as if it was always an option. The first time Kaidan flirts with me there better be at least one line of explanatory dialogue or it's going to feel like the biggest retcon.
Can people even make out much of Vega's body and face from the screenshots we've seen and that scan? I can't even tell what his hairstyle is. Is it a faux hawk?Time4Tiddy wrote...

From the biggest available resolution of the CE picture, we kinda can IMO:Spatchmo wrote...

He's muscular. Many men are muscular. Shepard is muscular. Kaidan is muscular. Joker is muscular. What this tiny, low-res pic of Vega tell me is that he is a little more muscular than the others.
And this looks/personality trade off is silly. Isabela has very, very big breasts and she has more personality than half of ME2 Squadmates together.

All the humans in ME to this point have had identical bodies. Toned and lightly muscled, implying that there is a pretty standard fitness/diet regimen, at least for Alliance soldiers. Adding a playable human who is noticeable more muscled than every other human male encountered up until this point definitely makes his size/body something we are supposed to care about. I mean does it make any sense at all to add this guy who has 40-50 pounds on all other humans in the game and say, oh it's just aesthetics.
That's he's gonna be more massive compared to your "standard" muscular male.Dhiro wrote...
If I'm not mistaken, a dev mentioned that Vega has a body like a... what's the name? Linebacker? I'm not familiar with american football, so I don't see what that means.
But the good news is that it was BW that told him about it, it wasn't something he assumed himself based on text and perhaps assumed incorrectly. Also, the timing of this and BW telling him about the s/s romance works well in the context of BW confirming s/s romance in general just a month ago. I'm very optimisticElitePinecone wrote...
