Resources is not the best term to use here. Priority would be better. Due to the fact gay men are in great minority, most devs just won't even bother creating content specifically for them. Sad truth. Few people will use the feature so they prefer to focus on something more people will use. The flaw in this reasoning is that they don't take straight women into the account here. They obviously do it for lesbian romances and straight men, but being mostly straight men themselves, they don't get many straight women want to role-play a gay man.

They don't make exclusively lesbian characters either.

They tried to with Juhani in KotOR, but the game bugged out.  I guess the game's been fixed since then.

That romance was also cut down so much to the point it wasn't even recognizable as a romance anymore.  It was one convo at the end of the game, IIRC, and you could only get it by avoiding any flirting with Carth (who they shoved down your throat the entire game).

I guess the keyword there was "tried," heh.

He strikes me as more of a 'peck on the cheeks' kind of guy, really.

Yeah, it was more of an "easter egg" romance, more than anything. First it was bugged to fire for male Revan as well, and even after the patch, you had to follow some very strict events and dialogue choices for it to work. Hardly a real "romance", but the closest we've had to an "exclusively gay" romance.

I was wondering if I was not remembering her "romance" right but it seems I was. Doesn't it basically just boil down to her saying "I like you and maybe once this is over we can be something" ? That's how I remember it at least but it's been forever since I've played K1.

Also, she was a cat thing person.  So that doesn't count as a gay romance.  Neither do aliens or elves.  Posted Image

I'm just suggesting that overall character development and experience will be more enjoyable for everyone if certain characters are designed to be exclusively s/s or hetero love interests from the beginning.

I have not, to date, found being locked out of the romance I wanted to pursue because of my gender to be an enjoyable experience. I doubt that will change in the future, even if they ever do get around to making exclusively gay characters.

They did Juhani. Not to mention there's been much more bisexual/lesbian women in their games since KOTOR than bi men. And then there's an entire race of universally bisexual hot space babes in revealing outfits. Textbook straight male fantasy.

I'm sorry,  but,  I'm not entirely sure Juhani counts.  I'm not even sure if I romanced her or not,  I tried REALLY HARD...  and there was absolutely nothing that suggested the game was open to it.  So I just threw my hands into the air in my next play through and modded Bastila...  and my love affair with "Dat Voice" blossomed.

If I remember correctly the author tinkered  a bit with the files try to make it seem more like a lesbian romance instead of a just the original M/F romance.

You're locked out of all but 1 romance per playthrough anyway, and it's incredibly easy to check what romance you want to do and set your character's gender accordingly.

Unless of course you don't like playing a certain gender.

Point. Missing it. I don't want to have to choose a gender I don't want to play as to play the romance I want. That is not, to me, an enjoyable experience.

I'll be grabbing that the next time I play K1 then. :D The tinkering will be nice since I got so used to playing modded f/f in older BioWare games and having my PC often think "Umm... I'm a woman." XP It leads to some hilarity in certain games, but it's something, instead of just having the relationship be purely headcanon. :P

All the more so when your character is voiced. There's yet to be a voiced male protagonist from an rpg I've played whose voice I could remotely stand.

I agree with bleetman...somewhat just swap the genders.

That's because Lucasfilm/arts p. much demanded that the Juhani lesbian romance be removed.

Because there's no gays in the SWU. >_>

(Yes, I know about the gay Mando couple in Travissty's books. But still...)

So much "I want" in that post, which is kind of the problem. Theoretically, characters should be written as fully developed people and not as a collection of attributes designed to appeal to as many fans as possible. Now, you may have some bisexual characters in the mix, since some people are bisexual. But it's implausible to write every single romancable human character in the story as bisexual unless you have some story reason why bisexuality is more common in Thedas/the future/wherever you set the story than it is in the real world.* In addition, having sexual orientation of characters "lock out" certain romance paths would decrease the increasing "dating sim" feeling Bioware games seem to be picking up by limiting the number of characters waiting to ninjamance a particular protagonist.

*And once you throw aliens in there, all bets are off about how their sexuality works - for instance,  it's unclear Asari would even have a concept of sexual orientation given the fact that they're monogendered.

The characters are never gonna be fully developed people. Ever. That's not gonna happen. The medium is too limited for that.

Sh*t, really? That's messed up, man.

I know the reason that it's pretty much none existant,  and I think Lucas is a tool!  A tool I say.

And I'm glad I could link people to that mod,  I enjoyed it myself glad to spread it around.
