The answer of course is make everyone bi. That is choice! They gave it to me with Dragon Age 2, and now I'm ruined. Anything less seems lazy, I want a buffet of lovers to chose from, gender be damned! Gah, I've become greedy! I need MORE!

<_<......you should just play dating sims

People need to stop saying that unless they've played a dating sim.

For reals. =]

Or maybe JUSTICE is bisexual, or the merging of personalities removed any objections. Or maybe his status as an abomination makes him DESPERATE for find any warm harbor to take shelter in.

*Snips the rest of awesome rant*

Actually, Anders was Bi prior to his joining with Justice. He'll make direct reference to it if you ask him about Karl. He calls Karl "His first" I believe, and that they met in the circle in Ferelden, prior to the events of awakening, but Karl was transfered from the Ferelden circle to the Kirkwall circle for a reason that is never really explained... But other than that I agree with you. Just because he never actively hits on the male warden or someone in DA:O:A doesn't make him instantly straight. He could, zomg, just not be interested in the warden. Posted Image

On topic: Can't wait for my shep to get some m/m action FINALLY.

the thing is...in DA2 if your male its pretty heavily hinted that he only likes guys, which doesn't really fit with awakening, if you are female he never mentions karl being his first and they where just friends, anders sexuality is straight or gay depending on if you are male or female

Uh...*no*

Walk around with Anders and Isabela sometime. He clearly mentions sleeping with females and finding them attractive. With a femHawke he doesn't mention male lovers that is true. But he does mention females with male Hawke.

Look at it this way. Anders is desperate and clingy. He wouldn't want to ruin any chance he has of being with Hawke so he wouldn't tell femHawke about any male lovers because some females find that to be a turn off. So he keeps his mouth shut. WIth male Hawke he *wants* him to be his lover (stupid him/he...blargh) so it comes up.

Your comment seemed to suggest that homosexuality hadn't existed in Mass Effect since the beginning. Which is factually incorrect, because it has.

I agree with you about making everyone bi "out of the blue" as you put it. I would be content with James Vega frankly... So long as they make him look less like a baby faced, steroid pusher.

That's not what I was suggesting (looks at Liara and Femshep) at all. And James seems like a high school football punk to me.

You might want to clarify that as male homosexuality then.

I've just finished a ME male Shepard playthrough in the hope that Kaidan will be available for s/s relationship in ME3. By choosing the best available options I reached a situation where neither one knows what the other one's sexual preference is and it wouldn't be a 'retcon':

I closed down Ashley with the you're 'out of line' choice, recruited Liara after Noveria (first mission), talked to Kaidan after speaking with Liara. It came to the choice between bottom left meaning Shepard does like Liara or the top left asking what Kaidan's intentions were. Kaidan can't romance Liara - it's just art appreciation if you make that choice - and Shepard can't go back and say what he intends. Neither knows what the other likes/wants. Turn down Liara at the next available opportunity and I'm left with a frustrated, but hopeful, Shepard because of Kaidan's losing a limb dialogue on Horizon.

All I'm trying to say is that my male Shepard in that game (emphasis on those last three words) is gay and in love with Kaidan.

(I blame the ME slightly slo-mo effect for both male and female Shepards when they approach Kaidan's work station for sowing the seed. It's the same when Shep walks towards Liara in the med bay; and then there's Ash's quizzical looks to either sex Shep together with femShep's 'Dismissed Chief' tone.)

In ME3 I would like it if my male Shep has some quality time with Kaidan, preferably before and after defeating the Reapers. Those that don't want the option for their Shepards don't have to take it. After all there are many 'romances' in ME2 and I have only used two of them with some of my Shepards - the other choices were too 'What the .... you can not be serious!' for my tastes. But as the saying goes One man's meat is another man's poison. I'm happy that some people got what they wanted in ME2 - now pretty please Bioware make it my turn (fingers crossed etc., and if that means making characters Bi so be it.)

I don't think any of us knows enough about the game and how m/m romance is going to be implemented to be satisfied or not. At this point we're basically stating our criteria for satisfaction.

Regarding the sig bar:
Are you counting the Human/Alien relationships as M/F? Kinda weird.

We're counting it as exactly how you said, male/female. The fact they're not humans doesn't make not be males or females. They're alien males and females.

When one of them is male and the other is female? Oddly enough, I imagine it does.

I know I'm late to the party, but I'll probably be eternally confused how whenever DA2 turns up in the "this is why bi-sexual characters are bad, m'kay" style conversations, it's generally about Anders making his own advances without the player doing it first. Hardly ever see Isabela turn up, despite the fact she flirts with the player character the first time they talk. Also the second. And then several times further on down the line.

Funny how that's hardly ever mentioned at the same time, really.

I'm just saying, that people might be led to believe, that the ME series has 9 heterosexual romance options, when in reality, half of those are human / alien. (and no, a human male + alien female does not make a heterosexual pairing)

But I guess you have to sell your point somehow.

Yes, they do. On account of featuring one male and one female.

I believe the term only applies, when both partners are from the same species.

Then it would be one man and one woman. Male anf female is not restricted to a species, and really, everyone knows it.

Without arguing semantics, it's clear that Bioware intended the Shepard/alien romances to be heterosexual ones (even if the gender distinction is artificially imposed) and players certainly perceived them as heterosexual or male/female. Whether or not they were actually 'male', or 'female' is irrelevant, they were offered as such to players, who generally accepted this definition.

I don't think many males who romanced Liara or Tali, or females who romanced Garrus or Thane, would be arguing that these were not heterosexual, regardless of whether we deign to call the aliens by human genders.

Just like we're perceiving Liara/FemShep as same-sex even though Bioware resolutely insists that Liara is actually some kind of asexual, genderless blob. With bewbs and a female voice.
