For all its faults DA2 does make it far easier to create pretty Hawke's than it is in Mass effect and DA1. I find that to create a pretty ManShep you have to resort to using headmorph mods.

Bioware are tweaking the character creation system slightly for ME3, so hopefully there's a wider range of facial features and the ability to fiddle with our existing characters.

There are headmorph mods for Mass Effect?

Yeah, I don't like using the headmorphs, though.  I used a mod in DA2 so I could give my Hawke the default Hawke hair (I think almost everyone did that, lol), and got some pretty nice results.  I tend to prefer "handsome" over "pretty" for guys anyway, and wasn't too disappointed with my result in ME2:

Your Shepard is amazing, Rinji. I never had patience for "pretty" boys, myself.

I dunno how you managed to get a custom shep that looks actually in proportion. I swear the cheek options are either gaunt or imaciated.

As for DA2, I did use that mod. What was frustrating with that though is I wanted default Hawke's eyes and eyebrows (and hair of course) so went to use an edited version of that and as soon as you remove his beard its like... Posted Image

That is one nice Shepard.  Personally, I have only played with standard Shepard because I can't think of Him any other way.  Unlike DAII, I think BioWare did a great job on their defualt character, I like Bio-Shepard alot.  I LOVED the CG trailer version of Hawke but thought the default in-game Hawke was a bit fugly.  Why we have to mod the game to get his hair I will never know.

More on topic, I am so glad BioWare are finally putting s/s LI's in ME3.  Shame it didn't happen from the begining but better late than never right?  After the DAII crap, I understand why they nixed it at the last minute for the first game.  Whether it was MS putting presure on them or they were just taking into account that the game was being marketed to the XBOT croud of Gears of War/CoD/Halo etc loving idiots.

I really liked Kaidan in the first game and hope he is an option, I thought he and Shepard would have worked well.  I also had a thing for Garrus after I played ME2.  I think he's just such a cool charcter and love his voice too.  I even think he's kind of cute!   Kaidan died in my one and only playthrough of ME1 so I started playing again back in May because I wanted a different outcome to the game so I could play ME2 again before ME3 was released which I thought was supposed to be December.   I stopped playing (just before Virmie I think) when I saw the release date because I have plenty of time now :(    I thought it was bad playing Arrival in March thinking the game was releasing in December.  Little did I know it was still a year away! :crying:

After watching a modded PC ME1 Shepard/Kaidan romance scene on YouTube, I so hope BioWare keep that "I don't believe i've had the pleasure of you serving under me" line he said to Kaidan, that cracked me up.  I think it used the dialogue that was not implemented in the game, I have no idea.  It certainly seems like something BioWare would put in that scene though!

P.S Everytime I read "gays in space" all I can hear is "piiigs in spaaaace" in my head, no idea why.

it's a secret, but he's actually his real father.

Haha that could actually be possible if it wasn't for the fact Anderson is partially black and Kaidan ain't in a bit so it can't be :P

Has Kaidan's parentage been confirmed anywhere? The children of a black / white couple could look either black or white. In fact, it's unlikely, but if a black person has a white grandparent, there is a small possibility they will have a white looking child even if the other parent is black.

I remember reading some hilarious article about a white couple who had a black kid and the dad demanded a bloodtest because he didn't believe the kid was his (understandably) it was.

As for s/s couples that don't involve Shepard.

Huh...Vega and Kaidan I guess.

It's been a long time since I've seen that but Pigs in Space might have been a muppet parody of that.

I'm a bit worried about trying to make a character "look" gay. I could be that I'm misunderstanding your discussions, but one of the things I LIKE about the all-Bi option is that you can just make a character and not have to worry that s/he looks the part of a gay or straight LI.

If Kaidan is your thing you can go for him, or for Ashley, or for Wrex. If you're a guy and want some Wrex action you've fallen for him for what he is, not for what sexual orientation a game maker thinks he should be targeted at.

I am reading through this thread, and am still somewhere around page 50, and i'm not sure of everything you have discussed in the intervening time, but I wanted to drop my two cents.

I was all for every character being availible to both genders, as that seems like the fairest way in my view, although there have been a few good arguments for other implementations, and I'll be happy as long as I get Kaiden. Or Joker. That could be awesome.

But I think one thing that needs to be mentioned is how it will fit in the story. Not in terms of avoiding ret cons, but in terms of whatever the mass effect 3 story is. (Or maybe you all discussed this on page 84 and I just haven't gotten that far yet).

We already know that the team won't work the same as it has in past games. To me it sounds like you will have a core team, with Liara, the VS, Tali, and Garrus (if they are alive. My canon paragon playthrough has kaiden and liara the only currently living members from the original team :crying:) and a couple new characters, plus other characters joining and leaving, rotating in and out throughout the game, similar to LotSB. If this is true I'm guessing it possible that lot's of characters from ME2 will only be secondary characters in ME3. Because of this it just may not make sense to start a new relationship with them in the third game.

For example, if when we see Thane, he is in his death bed it may not make sense to romance him (although a death bed pronouncement of love could be very moving), or if Miranda stays loyal to cerberus, instead of to shepard (not likely I know, I'm just talking examples) then it won't really make sense to start a new relationship. I am guessing that some of the LI's might have just have small, but hopefully still important, roles in ME3. And if Bioware is really mean they may use connections you formed in ME2 to really mess with the players emotions. Imagine if you romanced Jack in ME2, dumping Liara to do so, and then when we see Jack in ME3 she only survives a couple of missions before meeting a tragic end. Will be all sorts of messy emotional relationships on board the Normandy.

And Maybe it won't be like that at all. Just something I thought was worth considering.

*Edit* Just reformatting for easier reading. I am still figuring this forum out.

I wouldn't be so sure that Tali, or anyone else for that matter, is permanent.  They seem to be doing something different.  Whether or not it will be effective remains to be seen.  I wonder if we'll get the standard culminating romance scene right before the end of the game, or if any finale to the romance will happen during whatever scene/mission the LI features in.
