Hmm, well, ONE of my Shepards is gay, the other two are straight. To each his/her own, and that's why we should be celebrating.
Ha. One of my Sheps is straight, the other three are queer (two gay, one bi). Amusingly, of the three femSheps, the most butch of them is the straight one. I swear I didn't do that intentionally...

So, let's assume for a moment that Joker or the VS* or one of the ME2 LIs is revealed to be bi in addition to the new bi characters. Disregarding the apparently volatile issue of which NPC in particular is chosen, how would you guys want the reveal to be done? Restricted to s/s Shepards, like Anders, or made apparent regardless of Shep's gender that playthrough, like Isabela? Should it come up in conversation, or be revealed by, idk, meeting some ex of Garrus' or overhearing one of Ashley's sisters teasing her about some hot chick they think she should date, or whatever? Or should Shepard have to make a move for it to even come up? Should it make a difference if the returning character was first introduced in ME2 or ME1 (since that would impact how long and possibly why the character has been 'closted' to Shep, and potentially whether they know about femShep/Liara)?
Personally I'm strongly inclined to say that we should find out the character is queer, absolutely regardless of Shep's gender or dialog choices, and then be able to respond to the effect of "I get it. Don't worry, you can trust me" (paragon points) or "I don't care who you sleep with, just whether you can do your job" (renegade points),** or "me too". And then
after the "me too,"
then you get the option to flirt. Because some people will have queer Sheps who just aren't interested in that particular NPC just like people have straight Sheps who aren't interested in any given o/s NPC. And some people will have queer Sheps of the opposite gender who just want an opportunity to commiserate briefly with someone who gets it. And a lot of gamers could stand to be reminded that being queer doesn't mean you feel compelled to jump every s/s person you see.
But that seems... unlikely, I have to admit, so I'd settle for anything that wasn't "I'd never considered this before, but now that you've brought it up, you're special, Shep," all Garrus-style. My Sheps are not interested in being anyone's bicurious experiment, and "no no they're just Shepsexual" would feel too much to me like "lol Liara's monogendered it's not
really gay" all over again.
* Though I'm not totally sure of the VS as an option, since that would lock out anyone who started the series in ME2, unless they buy a stupidly overpriced, poorly written DLC thing, and that kind of content lockout hasn't historically been BioWare's style. Also, as an Ash fan, I worry that I might be guilty of wishful thinking.
** I know some folks would probably want an "actually no, I'm not okay with that, get out of my sight you dirty ***, I wish I'd left your corpse to get nuked on the Collector Base" but, for some reason, I'm not inclined to offer one.
