Of course, this is just probably blind hope... but, I for one wished that sexuality stopped being such an important definition of selfdom.

I'm sorry to keep bringing it up. Sometimes it just takes a five minute meeting to ruin your whole week. I'll think happy thoughts from now on.
It's not a problem, it is typical... and understandable given the situations involved. Yet, I can't help but feel that it really only furthers the gap. Sure, some people are always going to be against it but the more one seperates the variations between sexual identies that harder it is for each group to accept each other.

I can agree with this. But in my life experiences, and I am not trying to come across as some life guru arcane to decades of experience with human nature. I am 51 years old and have friends from many cultures, backgrounds, ethnicities and orientations. In my experiences, I have most certainly found it to be the majority of a certain group to be less accepting than the other. I cannot deny the minority their feelings since I am not that part of it, but I have
seen the effects of that minority wanting in with the whole, while at the same time, sometimes getting the feeling of wanting to be also left alone because they cannotget in. It has to be disheartening to see that being pulled in two
different directions when most don't experience that. I'd say we should be willing to wear someone else's shoes, just
sometimes.

The thing is sexuality is really definitive in relation to our selfdom however not in the sense that it is quite often perceived. To say that because someone is straight they are inherently stronger and more reliable than a gay person is a misuse of sexual identification for determining someone's selfdom, to say that a gay man or a gay woman or evern a woman cannot be a badass in the military is also a misuse of sexuality identification. To say that a gay man is attracted to men is the ultimate expression of sexual identification in its positive form; he is gay because he feels romantically and/or sexually only for men, this gives expression to his love and desires and is essential to his defintiion of selfdom but it is not the measure of it.AngelicMachinery wrote...
Perhaps this is a defeatist attitude, I can joke about gay garrus for the lulz... but, really, I'm not exciting about additional QQ from "Dude bros." I would just be happy with a shrug and a non commital grunt as they returned to playing the game just as they always have. Hoping for negative reactions seems more harmful than good.
Of course, this is just probably blind hope... but, I for one wished that sexuality stopped being such an important definition of selfdom.
Any trait in isolation is a negative actualization of self-understanding and identity.

Sue me, I didn't take it as far as you. I do truly hope though that this stops being a sticking point, and point in fact lumping all heterosexual's amongst the "Dude Bros" doesn't help anyone. My point stands, people should stop trying to afirm their existance by tearing each other down. I for one support group hugs and a round of mead myself. Sure, it's a long way off and a big dream... but its something that I don't think should simply be ignored.
Perhaps I should have said we should simply stop tearing each other down for differnces and embrace them instead. Sure, there are going to be ass holes... but there are ass holes on all sides we should stop generalizing.

Oh I hear you, just this is a topic I've studied mercilessly and written essays on etc. for college and a huge component (sexuality as potentially definitive) in a lot of my classes and units so I can't help but go overboard when it comes up. Also, I have funky music playing in the background that makes me want to go 'philosophical', so uhh... blame the music? XD
Naturally some of our greastest supporters, even supporters for VS being Bi will actually turn out to be heterosexual, generalizations and presuppositions based on nothing than a knee-jerk reaction to something getting close to our own insecurities will be the death of the world.

Heh, of course it's not just the US, there just seems to a real anit-gay thing with Sci-Fi.
I read that FOX were involved with the US Torchwood at first and they planned to make him straight, but Barrowman wouldn't do it. It may have been a load of crap, I dunno. I haven't seen the US verion of Shameless yet, but I am wondering if characters were changed in that too. Skins US was changed, removing the gay character Max and putting in a lesbian girl instead.
It seems that fox lost the contract for it anyway, perhaps, it is because they wanted to remove Captian Jack's () omnisexuality. Also, I just discovered the first episode of the show was shown on stars on the eighth in america and will be shown on the 14th on the BBC. I'll have to find the first episode somewhere.
Thank goodness for that, I do not like FOX. The first episode aired here on UKTV(BBC Australia basically) on Saturday night, it is airing each week a few hours after it is shown in the US. I wasn't too thrilled with it, it was sure no Children of Earth but I'll see how it goes. Of course now when I hear Eve Myles speak, all I can hear is Merril

While FOX News is pretty righ-wing, the entertainment network doesn't seem shy in the least of running series featuring gay characters in lead, support or guest-starring roles. One of it's most popular series is "Family Guy," which regularly promotes counter culture and depicts Republicans as "WWII Germans" (damn censor program).
And no, I am NOT saying those characters are perfect, but the lousy ones I have always felt were the result of bad writing than promoting any anti-gay agenda.
Great. You made me defend Rupert Murdoch. Damn you all.

Heh, good old FOX News huh? Who could forget the "SEXBOX" scandel aimed at Mass Effect?
I may have a skewed view on FOX in America as a network because I know that what is shown in Australia on FOX 8 (as it's called) is not all encompasing of what is available in the US. All I see on FOX 8 are a bunch of reality shows and trashy teenage "drama" shows. That stuff seems to go on forever and then they have a show like Dollhouse and cancel it almost before it got started.
The US network TV industry seems to mirror the current world game industry to me. It's safe to stick with the reality trash/court drama/hospital drama shows that people always seem to watch and not take a chance on making real/new/different TV series. In the game industry it's a case of "WE NEED SEQUELS!!" If a new IP doesn't sell 2 or 3 million, it's another excuse for the industry to claim that new IP's do not sell.
Back on topic, I had to laugh about the Leandra comments. I liked when she commented "I've seen the way you look at Anders" and then spoiled it with the "finding you a wife" comment almost right away. Why could I not respond to her damn it! I also loved Hawke's uncle and his "So you moved the appostate boy into your house? I don't have to ask which one's the girl!" That cracked me up. I really kept hoping for a comment from Warden Carver when he re-appeared at the end, along with a "punch" icon response from Hawke.

The timing on that played out differently in one of my Lady Hawke PTs. First I got the "Find you a husband" which I was cool with, because its safe to assume that Leandra would think her daughter is straight if she hasn't seen otherwise. I was VERY pleased that she seems to approve of whoever you date.
Though Gamlen's comment to his neice is really creepy. "Two women, I've always wondered what that's like."

Awww, I bet SpacerShep's mom would be really nice and supportive! I don't think she'd care WHAT her kid was dating, she'd be all, "I'm so proud of you!"
I love Hannah Shepard. She's the best. And hopefully, before she bites the bullet in ME3 (it's gonna happen, you know it) she'll have a chance to speak with her child again and she'll comment on Shepard's relationship! <3

Oh, I can totally see it: The Alenko/Vega home. Outside it's chaos, the Reapers are invading, fire's raining from the sky, people are getting slaughtered.
Inside it's eerily quiet, except for a clock ticking away on the wall. Tea is being served.
"So, now that you're here, Mr. Shepard... or may I say John? Fine. John, now that you're here... What are your intentions with my son?"

If Rinoa and Squall can find time to be all romantic while they're floating in the middle of space, in their space suits, slowly dying as their oxygen runs out I think Shepard can meet the parents on the Normandy or via video chat or in an evacuation xD
While Shepard is evacuating a tiny number of remaining civilians into the Normandy.
Shepard: Ma'am you need to hurry and get into the Normadny
Mama Vega: James honey, who is this man?
James: Uh, this Commander Shepard, Commander this is my mom.
Mama Vega: This is Shepard?
Mama Vega eyes up Shepard before beginning to enter the Normandy before turning back and calling out to the pair.
Mama Vega: James, you done good getting that hunk of a man
James & Shepard are left speechless as she walks into the ship
