No just no, that would seriously annoy me. The better question is why (apart from the aforementioned marketing reasons) do we get saddled with someone so obviously inexperienced in the final part of a trilogy where we must forge a grand coalition and hopefully engage in some delicate diplomacy to achieve that? I just hope I can leave him on the ship the whole game but with my luck he'll be mandatory for the first third (assuming a three act story like many Bioware titles) of the game.
