So, I'm checking my recent submissions on one of my art sites... and I see an image of Garrus and Manshep... that I can't repost here... and would require a sign up for anyone else to see.

How can I put this...

Garrus will have sore knees.

Just thought I'd share that. :)

How? =]

Well, because the picture is flagged as "Adult" eg "X-Rated" on the website in question, you'd have to sign up and set your age perameters to see it.

Vega reminds me a bit of Puck from Glee, but more muscular. I'd like him to be one of the s/s options.

I'm going to post a few theories on my part.

Since every single squad member we have had over the past two games could be dead (With the exception of the Vermire Survivor and Liara) I have a feeling they'll (the "could be dead" list) show up in extended cameos when we (the players) need their help in a Main Story Mission. As a hypothetical example: Shepard needs to rally the Krogan. We'll probably work with Wrex (or Wreav) and Grunt.

Which leads to another theory: If squad member for a particular cameo is dead, we'll probably get one of two things. We'll either be given a replacement squaddie, who is a new character, to fill the dead character's shoes (I hope not, personally, because that will cheapen the experience). Or, that character will simply be gone and that slot will be filled with one of our permanent squad members. Also, it would be nice if lacking that cameo put the player at a tangeble disadvantage, to give some weight to their absence. (Say, getting the quarians on your side becomes even harder if Tali died in your game. (This is all hypothetical, lets not nitpick over if she was exiled or what you told the flotilla to do with their spare time))

So, what do I think we'll see in the new permanent squad member line-up and their s/s availabliy?
1. Liara (s/s (duh), m/f)
2. Kaidan/Ashley (s/s, m/f)
3. James Vega (m/f)
4. New Female Human Squadie (m/f)
5. New Alien Female Squadie (m/f, s/s)
6. New Alien Male Squadie (m/f, s/s)

If theres 8 members...

7. New Alien Male Squadie (non-romance)
8. New Alien Female Squadie (non-romance)

All conjecture, on my part, but thats what I think/hope to see.

@ACWolfe: Interesting! Thanks for pointing that out.

Oh I hope he's N7 so he can at least tell my Sheps something they (or rather I) don't know about N7 maybe they can reminisce about the horrible training or something.

I also would like Vega to be a s/s option. I hope he'll have a interesting interaction with Shepard.

Yes let's review, these are the options I think we might possibly get,

1 Liara, - technically not female but romanceable by both genders nonetheless
2 Ashley or Kaidan - het only (s/s cut due to time/budget constraints, again)
3 James Vega - bi
4 New female Human lead - bi
5 Tali - het (can save her or not through comic)
6 Garrus - het (can save him through comic if desired)
7 New male Alien - not romanceable (likely candidate for Batarian ally)
8 New female Alien - most likely not romanceable but might be bi or possibly f/f only (like Juhani)
9 Possible DLC Prothean - not romanceable

After seeing some of the annoying reactions, I would like him to be the only gay male option.

I'm uncertain about Vega. I originally thought that he would not be a romance option at all, but that latest pic does look like they're going that route with him.

What I think we'll get:

Romances that Can be started in ME3:

Liara (m/f) (s/s)
Vega (m/f) (s/s)
New Human Female (m/f) (s/s)
New Alien Male (m/f) (s/s)

Romances That can be imported:

All LI's from previous games

Uncertain:

I don't know about the VS. On the one hand, one will always be dead, but one will also always be alive, so it might be worth making starting a romance with them in ME3 possibleas well as importing. I have no idea if they will be s/s or not though.

I've got two big hopes for Vega. First of all, I want him to be an SS option. Secondly, I'd like him to have an effective combat setup, and not one that you have to dig incredibly deep before realizing just how effective he can be (a la Jacob in ME2). I hope he's on par with ME2 Miranda in terms of universal applicability, as I think that could do a lot for his popularity, especially if ME3 is indeed difficult enough for it to actually matter what squadmates you bring with you on lower difficulties.

DEFINITELY! I was wondering what it is about Vega I'm am concerned the most but after I read this it made sense.

I was wondering...if he is a soldier - and you have Ash who is a soldier...would it be a duplicate? They really need to make him stand out and have a universal application to make him useful and exciting to use in your squad.

Looks like my squad is gonna be Garrus and Vega for my infiltrators and probably Kaidan (if he's the only one with warp) and Vega for my adepts.

I assume he will have some kind of special ability, like the squad members in Mass Effect 2.

Besides, even if I had him and Ashley, I would use both.

The VS is going to be a Specter so either one is bound to have new skills that set them apart and make them more specialized than their ME incarnation.

The twitter thread has reported that James focuses on survivability while Ashley focuses on lethality.  A pity, as I never found much use for survivability characters (like Grunt in ME2).  I prefer to be the one under fire while my squadmates support with powers in the background.  Maybe the combat will have shifted enough from ME2 to ME3 to accommodate tanking better.

Yeah survivability might matter if Shepard dying meant they could wake him/her up with medigel. But since it's Game Over once Shepard falls their survivability doesn't mean much. :/

Vega needs to specialize in "survivability" if he's revealed to be a s/s option because the raging gamers will do everything they can to get him killed.

EDIT: Of course, maybe I could use him to keep Mordin alive. *Grumble* Stupid frail Salarian blabber mouth not smart enough to duck...

So what would the point of ME squddie be then?

I'm glad they're going to be different. As people have said, Ash will be more about damage and Vega more about survival. I just hope survival will be worth it. Insanity on ME2 -- survivability doesn't mean poo. Shields/health are gone in one shot.

Please make characters (like krogan) who are meant to last long -- do just that. Last long.

At this point, adding in a remotely substantial number of new characters is going to stretch credulity a little too much for my liking. At the point when your combined team member roster for previous games spans over a dozen, I have to wonder whether jumping in with new ones is a particularly good idea. All the more so when Mass Effect 2 played like a "hey, here's all the people and organizations that're going to be important later" introductory trailer.

On the bright side, at least if they did add a bunch of new characters and made 'em s/s, the whining might shift from "they might make my favourite character bi-sexual everything is ruined forever" to "they left out my favourite character just to add some bi-sexuals everything is ruined forever". Variety is the spice of life, and all that.

...Did I say whining? I meant completely justified concerns. Yes.

I found indestructo-characters vaguely useful on occasions when Harbinger or massed husks showed up, myself. Grunt with his loyalty bonus made for a great meat-shield during the first part of the suicide mission. Hey fatso, stand in the opening and get slapped around whilst I snipe, hey? Not that any of them could ever hold a candle to Mass Effect 1 Ashley 'medical exoskeleton, immunity spam, trololol' Williams, which makes it slightly disappointing they're seemingly making her more of a glass cannon. The woman could shrug off missile and Geth armature fire without even breaking a sweat.

That's why most looks Bioware posts for squadmates aren't particularly deceiving when it comes to their personality it was pretty easy to guess from her changed appearance that the new Ash was going to take a leaf out of Miranda's book and while Miranda was a useful and versatile squad member she wasn't a tank cause that's just not perceived as being particularly sexy or womanly.

I like my Ash-Tank. She kicked ass and looked good. ;_;
She looked at Geth Primes and laughed. She was my Adept's best battlefield buddy.

The only reason I see for new characters is to fill the holes that may be left because of a player having the worst possible save (some interesting YouTube videos on the subject). But really, how hard would you have to metagame to truly have a horrible save?

Of course, it could be the "simplest" way to introduce male s/s romance options.
