Glad you guys and gals have your thread back, it's always a welcome addition to the BSN. Keep fighting for the love :)

:wizard: Thanks for the support, but there's no fighting to be done at this point. ;) Now we're just enjoying the prospect of inclusion.

I personally am looking forward to seeing how it all plays out. I have six "canon" Shepard characters, one of each class, three males and three females. I have one of each gender set aside for same-sex romance, a female Adept who romances Liara in the first two games, and a solitary male Sentinel. I can't wait to see how the existing romances continue, but depending on how the story goes, I may also have one of my other four characters "become" bisexual if their existing LIs don't really fit with their character in ME3. My Sentinel will definitely be having his first romance in ME3 though.

It's quite simple, really. This thread is to discuss the implementation of an option BioWare has already confirmed in the game. If you want to discuss something else, like character continuity, that belongs somewhere else.

People are allowed to want "gay Kaidan", as you say, and they're allowed to talk about it here. People are allowed to say they would prefer some other option. But discussion of character continuity is not the purpose of this thread, and should be discussed in another thread. That's not so hard to understand, is it?;)

I thank you for your calm answer and when you put it that way,you do have a point. You have my word that I won't express my opinion on S/S (and I think you know what it is,anyway) in THIS thread anytime in future.

I appreciate that. :)

I totally support Gay Ashley. Ever since the palpable sexual tension in FemShep's "Dismissed, Chief" line, there can be no other!

Badass new thread in a badass new forum!

Ghost Warrior wrote...

You say the purpose of the thread is to discuss same-sex romances in ME3,yet we can't discuss it unless we are all for it. Please explain how is it discussing and not "OMG,I so want gay Kaidan" or something?

Sian makes it pretty clear in the OP, but basically...

This is an S/S romance thread in the new romance forum. We're not petitioning for the inclusion of S/S romance here. It's in. Now we're talking about how we might see this confirmed feature play out.

If you want to start a new post arguing against its inclusion, that's fine - but it goes in a new thread.

I've gotta admit, I wasn't expecting the unveiling of a forum dedicated to the romances, but this is a pretty great way to consolidate discussion. Nice idea, Chris!

I was so pleased to hear there would be more S/S options in ME3. I'm looking forward to learning more about them, and I hope they'll be as sensitively handled as the other romance options have been so far.

I wish we knew for sure whether James Vega was romanceable at all, and whether he would be bi or s/s or o/s only.

Ok, I want to first off state that I have absolutely no issue with s/s LI's in ME3. Should have been fully implemented before now, in fact. FemShep had Liara (and yes, that's a s/s romance no matter what people say) and Kelly (kinda) from ME2. MaleShep had no s/s options.

My ONLY thing is that if Bioware introduces s/s options for existing characters, they do so in a way that doesn't scream "fanservice." I honestly don't care if Ash and Kaidan (or others, tbh) are "opened up" so to speak, even if I wouldn't take advantage of that. I just want it to be done in a way that isn't slapdash or whatever.

For example, in my particular headcanon, Ashley and Kaidan are heterosexual. That's how my Shepards have reacted to them in ME1&2. In my opinion... I never got any homosexual vibes off them in either game. Others will disagree with me, and they certainly have the right to, and I'm not opposed to the VS being opened up...I just don't want it done in a way that doesn't make sense to me. I don't want a cheesy "I didn't say anything before now 'cause the mission...blahblahblah." That, to me, would seem like the dreaded "r" word. (retcon! *gasp*)

Yeah, this is a bit of a rambling post, sorry. I'm not a writer, so I haven't the faintest idea on how this would be done in a way that makes sense to me. Just...please, Bioware. If previous LI's are opened up to s/s relationships, make it make sense.

Just my own opinion, you are more than entitled to your own.

Handling romances well is not a gay/straight/bi issue. They can all be handled poorly or well, it all depends on the writing.

@Khevan: I agree that quality is the most important consideration at this point, but I'd say that applies to ALL romances, existing and new, same-sex or otherwise.

I agree with this 100%...I support personal headcanons.

If they do 'open them up' I hope they would do so in a way that players who go the heterosexual romance route with them (and headcanon them as heterosexuals) won't even notice the potential s/s romance is there (unless you go and flirt with them, of course...but that's optional).

Support the option but wondering how there going to do M/M given they've introduced a total of 3 Lesbian/bisexuals (Jack, Liara, and Kelly) and no gay/bisexual males.

Am I the only one hoping for the inclusion of Handel Mitra as a new squadmate. VERY possible given Kai Leng (from ME: Redemption) is in ME3.

Just hoping they don't pull a DA2 and retcon an existing characters sexuality like they did Anders (who goes from woo ****** on Andraste's statue in Awakening to I heart you Karl in DA2).

And for anyone who's going to argue that some of the squaddies are gay than: Kaiden and love of his life from ascension, Thane and his wife, Garrus's reach and flexability story, Grunt just likes to kill, Wrex is hot for fertile females (ME3 demonstration), Kai Lang and Asari, Jacob and his bar hopping and picking up girls, Anderson and Kahlee, and Joker and his many comments. This only leaves Zaeed, Presley, and Legion to work with or to get a former NPC or new character for the role.

I would rather just have new LIs rather than an old one becoming bisexual and being handled poorly. That said, if they could handle it well, then I'm all over it.

Agreed. If it's well handled fine but I'd prefer it to be new people.

@ Toby Flenderson: This thread is not intended to discuss retroactive continuity.

In response to other parts of your post, I think a lot of people would like to see Hendel Mitra as a male s/s option, he's a very compelling character in the books, even though he doesn't get a lot of "page time".

I personally would not prefer Zaeed as the s/s male option, but only because I dislike the character, not because I don't think it would make sense.

I agree with you.  I never got those vibes from either one of them.  I also think it would be a disservice to make the Virmire Survivor the bi love interest because a player might not have them because of previous choices... plus I'm not willing to forgive the VS for the way they treated Shepard on Horizon anytime soon.

That being said I do believe James Vega is going to be the male bi-interest because Hudson has already talked about a new character being bi and it would be easy to implement since he's a totally new character.  I could be wrong of course.

As for the girls... my bet is either Miranda or Tali... obviously I hope more for Miranda but Tali would be sooo easy to implement in the game.  Although I hope Bioware wont give us another alien option.

Just out of curiousity...

Is this a spoiler forum? One strike against the past threads was that they were generally posted in the general discussion areas, and discussion was constrained by the "no spoiler" rules (not that it necessarily stopped most people, myself included).

I think for really good, in-depth discussion, we should be able to freely delve into story and character spoilers from the first two games. Right now there's no disclaimer either way.
