Aye. I have no idea why that's a romance trigger.

What on earth was BW thinking. -_-*

I was under the impression the romance trigger for Ashley was creating a male character.

I wish they'd stop doing that.

The only sure-fire way of stopping her romance progression (as far as I've seen, and apart from declining her when she makes an advance) is to aggressively point out that her questioning of the presence of aliens on the Normandy is out of line and amounts to disobeying Shepard's orders.

It's really easy to miss and (annoyingly) Liara treats any conversation with Ashley as "OMG I thought you were interested in Ashley!!"

Yes, the game gives us an option to say Shepard isn't, but they assume far too much. Like you say, it amounts to "male character = MUST be interested in Ashley".

As I recall I got to a point where she expressed interest in Shepard and every speech option was a variation of Shepard reciprocating those feelings with the bottom option being something like 'I like a challenge'. So I stopped talking to her entirely on my 'Ashley survives' run and she still showed up before leaving for Ilos.

As for the grandfather conversation being a trigger....right then =/ Kaidan may well be the only male/male option in 3 anyway so I suppose she was screwed either way.

See as a straight male i dont mind if someone hits on me,whether its male of female. In fact i find it an ego boost, and more realistic.

As long as we have an option to say no thanks im not interested (in a few different ways to make it more of a roleplay?) and then they wont hit on me again, i'd be happy with that.

THANK YOU! This is exactly how I feel. I'm constantly being hit on by girls IRL, but I don't sit there and take umbridge to it. I just feel terribly flattered and politely turn them down.

Why do some straight men feel that their masculinity is at stake if another man hits on them? How utterly ridiculous.

To quote Amy Farrah Fowler *SPOILERish for Big Bang Theory*:

Penny: Well, your hair looks nice.
Amy Farrah Fowler: Are you a homosexual?
Penny: Um, no. Just paying you a compliment.
Amy Farrah Fowler: I would have been more flattered if you were a homosexual.

Inner doubts about their own sexuality is my guess.

So, rather than attack each others' sexual enlightenment, let's discuss the s/s romances.I know, we're running out of material, but I have a topic that I don't think I brought up before.

What about their partner (whether its a squad member, crew member, or their idealized desire) does your gayshep/lesshep/bishep find attractive? What makes them want to pursue a relationship with them?

For my MShep Garrus' strength is what attracts him. Joker's humor is also attractive, it balances my MShep out.

Since idealized desires are included i see my Shep (adept super-paragon) being attracted to Joker's sense of humor. Everything they've been through is so serious and so dangerous and literally life and death, and Joker can still find humor.
On top of that, contrary to what I've seen some jokermance haters assume, I (and therefore my Shep) don't see joker as some vulnerable puppy that needs protecting. I see the opposite. I see a character that despite his physical limitations is still a badass that can hold his own.
As a player I like the balance struck between them. Fragile/Unkillable, Serious/funny, tactical expertise/technical expertise. I like the symmetry.

Good idea. <3

My manShep pretty much finds attractive characters that are strongly developed and have strong convictions, even if they're sometimes contrary to his. He is attracted to developed partners who have strong personalities and can keep up with him in his squad.

I'm gay, and a lot of people don't know that yet, and I still have girls hitting on me. Heck, I had a girlfriend just before I realized I was into guys more so than girls. And because I had a girlfriend, which I'm not with her anymore, a lot of girls came up and start flirting w/ me. :P But I don't find it insulting or anything that they find an interest in me. Why should I be? lol

FoxHound and ArawnNox are right. Yeppers.

*That was not a self-promoting speech to make me sound hot and appear a heart-throb to every girl and guy I walk by. lol!

My MShep likes that, despite everything Kaidan went through, he still managed to not become biased, and is willing to see the good in others. He *doesn't* like that Kaidan decided that that did not, apparently, apply to Shep himself, but he's willing to overlook that if it turns out Kaidan is in love with him, considering we're not always the most rational of beings when it comes to the people we love.

The only reason I would leave Tali is if Garrus says he is interested. To me Garrus's ideals and personality are what I like most about him, he isn't perfect and shows it... especially when he talks about his former squad. He also is intelligent and highly skilled, which makes him my perfect match. Outside of Garrus's ideals and personality... he is also a sexy beast >v<

Nothing kills the immersion for me like trying to strengthen comradery with party members through dialogue and getting same-sex romance options instead. Obviously the problem there is personal preference, and there will be enough people on both sides of the fence to keep the topic boiling, but it honestly had a fairly big impact on my enjoyment and immersion.

*Possible Spoiler Ahead - DA2*

This was a problem I had while playing DA2 and trying to become friends with Anders. Yes, you can easily say "no" and move on with the game but it's the fact that my character was confronted with this awkward situation I had no desire to deal with. It ruined my perception of him as a "comrade" and instead replaced it with a feeling that I had to be careful with the way I interacted with him throughout the game unless I wanted to stir up romantic dialogue again. I found this slightly tragic because I liked Anders's character otherwise, and wanted very much so to be his good friend.

Again, this just went against my personal preference in what happens when you interact with your companions. If they could implement an option that can toggle same-sex romances on and off before starting a new game, I would be happy. I don't necessarily have anything against people enjoying them in the game, it's just not something I want to be forced to deal with as the story unfolds if I want to pursue friendships with my NPC comrades. That's my bit.

This is just so silly...
god I think you got more inmersed in the story by Anders than by Varic or any female in-game, since you reacted as if a guy hit on you IRL and don't say I'm wrong, since a bunch of pixels with a male form are way more "harmless" than real humans. Be careful out there!! :P

The complaints about the opposite sex flirting with the homosexual player I've seen have been mostly been said with humour and no one really seems to mind much.

The people having problems with gay flirting seem to be ever so serious. I wonder why that is.

Because they have to regain their composure to continue playing as a straight dudebro after they squee.

That is what so many dudebro gamers are probably afraid of with s/s romances though I never hear them say Bioware should get rid of horny women who like men.

It will take you some work to go back there but read Abipsa's awesome Anders rant on page 143 of this thread.

Which can be summed up as "silliness ensues if you force the protagonist to act out of character", which is hardly surprising.

*tries to steer things away from aggressive posts by answering his own question*

Diana Shep was originally not into romantic/sexual entanglements at all. At least, not until she had her wall broken down by the Consort. See my fanfic for my take on events:
http://social.biowar...307/blog/52580/

What drew her to Liara was her wide-eyed innocence at the rest of the galaxy and her awkward flirtations were endearing. I also fanfic'ed up a sequence where Diana gets to vent about her day to Liara, who provides an ear she desperatly needs, (I had several big moments happen in succession in my playthrough with her and I HAD to write about it. Still going through revisions.)

I haven't gotten to Ilos in my current run of ME2, so we'll see how she reacts to Liara's changes. She's not willing to believe the Illusive Man's claims about her.

His claims puzzle me a little. He has to know she's not working for the Shadow Broker, given how Cerberus gets ahold of Shepards body. It makes me wonder why he'd claim otherwise.

I'm pretty sure it was a continuity error the editors missed. To say he was just trying to mislead Shepard makes no sense since Shepard can meet with Liara early on and it is TIM himself that finds the SB for Liara.

It could have been a misunderstanding in the writing proceess that never got fixed. Meaning that it was supposed to be "information broker" vs "agent for the shadow broker".
