Hear hear. It's worth noting that the original FFTL thread and group was started by a straight male, and the current president of said group, yours truly, is a straight woman. This isn't an "us" versus "them" situation, because many of "us" are on "their" side. As far as I'm concerned there is no "them", we're just one big "us". Fact is, lots of straight people would pursue s/s romances in a video game. It's a video game.
So very true, I'd say there are more straight men and women using this content than they non-straight men and women by quite a large margin

As I've mentioned before, it's no different from male romances...the minority use that content as most seem to do the female romances (just look at any 'fave LI poll'...the females easily get more votes). However, the 'minority' of gamers that do romance males is significant enough to warrant it's inclusion and BW has made great progress since BG2 (one male LI, three female LIs) to make romance choices equal for not only gay gamers but straight females who want to romance dudes. Now they seem to want to extend it to s/s romances as well....that's a good thing, IMO.

I can't fathom why a straight woman would want to see two hot dudes hook up.
Actually, now that you mention Anders' writer...both Anders and Fenris were written by males and both Merrill and Isabela by females...hmmmm....
1. Depends on the woman, but the general concensus is that women enjoy gay romances/sex scenes because they're more egalitarian. There's a better chance for equality between the two partners because both can take different roles depending on the situation. It also appears to women as though those two men involved are more passionate and more vulnerable with each other because of the lack of gender role issues. There is also the excitement of a taboo, because it's something very different, and the chance to see men in a sexual way that is not threatening for the female viewer. I'm sure there are MANY more reasons why (like getting to see two of what you like for the price of one), so don't take those statements above as being the only ones.
2. Anders in Dragon Age II was written by a female.

This is another thing I wanted to point out: people think that the male/male romances are only to pander to the gay community, and specifically to gay gamers. But the truth is that there is a pretty large market for male/male romances for WOMEN in general: hence why a recent scientific study found that straight women are more likely to watch gay porn than straight porn, why there are thousands of stories slashing male characters together, why yaoi is so massive in Japan (and growing in the West), and why the romance novel has seen a resurgence of women writing gay romances for other women to read. Hell, Anders for DA II was written by a woman.
I can't fathom why a straight woman would want to see two hot dudes hook up.

Anders was *originally* written by a male (David Gaider) in Awakening. In DA2 his writer is Jennifer Hepler (a woman) who was responsible for the Broodmother segements (as well as another creepy part I forgot) in DAO. Gaider did write Fenris though.
And lets not forget the David Gaider inserts gay characters whenever he gets the chance.

I'm an ultra noob apparently and don't know how to do sigs. XP
Go to 'Profile' -> 'Forum Settings'
then you should see a text editor. I then click on 'BBCode' and then add the following:
[img*]*paste sig url here*[/img*]
remove the '*' symbols.

Oh, oh, I missed this reply!
Totally agreed on all accounts! I always think it's funny that people think Bioware should be "catering to the straight gamers" as if ALL straight gamers don't wan't s/s. There are plenty of straight gals, and yes guys, who want to be able to have their mSheps become involved in s/s romances.

They never had s/s romances in their earlier games...why add them now? Because people want them and play through that content. It's not a difficult concept to grasp. XD
*I can only speak for myself, but most of my friends on BSN play through s/s romances*

You know, I was just thinking... Mass Effect 3 has such a big cast and there are so many love interests that if Bioware wanted to, they could definitely have a healthy mix of heterosexual, homosexual and bisexual love-interests. I think that would be pretty cool.
Replay value for the win.
At this point, all I'm wishing for (in terms of new ME3 romances) is Joker. And I hope that he's available for both gendered Sheps.

I don't see any problems with s/s relationships in a video game. If you don't like it, don't have a s/s relationship with your character. I'm not going to, because I'm a "homophobe," or so I'm told. But I'm not opposed to having it in the game, I'm just not going to use it, but a lot of people obviously will, so let them have it.
You don't seem particularly homophobic, you just don't want to indulge in homosexual relationships which seems a-okay to me.
