The fact of the matter is it took me a long time to find out why my romance with Leliania wasn't progressing. When I found out is was being stopped by Zevran, the game was mostly complete. At the end of the game it still mentioned I liked Leliana but I didn't complete the romance.

Maybe you thought this was the case, but it's not true. Zevran doesn't magically romance you (you have to tell him you're interested) any more than the other two romances open to male characters, and you can romance many characters at the same time.

Also, this has nothing to do with same-sex romance. You could easily romance Morrigan also, and you'd eventually get to the same point where you were forced to choose (and if you were truly romancing Zevran, they both would eventually confront you and demand that you pick one of them).

The same with romance in DA2. You're not going to ruin your romance with Merrill because Anders said he might have feelings for you. Unless that conversation ended in sexytime, in which case, yeah, she might think her efforts are better spent elsewhere.

A lot of us didn't appreciate being railroaded into romance dialogue with the opposite sex, either.  You were ninjamanced -- Zevran is capable of ninjamancing BOTH genders, and Anders will hit on Hawke regardless of gender.

Leliana is also an egregious ninja-mancer. I think there's one dialogue in particular where you can get her romance flag stuck, all ME-style, just by being a nice person and, you know, asking her a question. Unlike ME, though, where this sort of stuff is intentional, I think these are just bugs in DA. :-)

this is getting nowhere good, I'm sorry for even trying to state my opinion in this forum.

And MACharlie1 yes you are right it was a ninjamance. As I will not be posting in this forum again, maybe you should only be able to have 1 partner, and when you find out which partner you want, no one else will try to hit on you.

goodbye, this is giving me a headache

...wasn't that ME2s system? If you had two romances then the two would be put on hold until you break it off with the other? :P

I'm sorry if you feel that the response hasn't been positive, but many people find the idea you suggested rather offensive. We have tried to help you see that your underlying concern isn't limited to s/s romance options, and that it is a problem many people would like to see resolved, including s/s supporters.

Personally, I think the player needs to rely on their own ability to avoid unwanted romances of either gender. Yes, the first two games handled the romance initiation flags in a clumsy manner, making it somewhat unclear in some cases that Shepard was saying "I like you" rather than "I like you".B) Hopefully the third game will do a better job of telling the player that Shepard is about to put the moves on somebody.

Now that you mention it, yeah... I remember playing my Queen Cousland playthrough, being ever so faithful to Alibear and making friends with Leliana, making sure not to give her the wrong idea... Then she gives me the heartbroken dialogue after the Landsmeet.   My Cousland was acting like there was still something between them, but nothing ever started!

I'd have to agree, although the dialogue was ambiguous the option to turn them down after any initial flirting was always quite clear.

If you somehow plough through four conversations with the 'wrong' romance option, without noticing the clear "I only like you as a friend" dialogue, then you can't be paying very close attention...

The game can't hold players' hands indefinitely, at some point their own judgement needs to kick in and realise that a certain dialogue option means something.

Haha Siansonea II how are you so rational? XP As much of a bad rap the system in DA2 got (with the pictures of a heart when you highlight a dialogue option), I think they should impliment that into ME3. Eliminates confusion and possible ninjamances.

It really annoys me when people try to make out that their problem with SS isnt that they arent homophobic or have a problem "it" but that in DAO and DA2 it can sneak up on you unexpectedly, like its this egregious problem that is solely confined to the realms of SS romances.

Eugh. It isnt.

Its a problem Bioware have ALWAYS had in their games with characters Ninjamancing you; ME2 was the worst for it.

It happens with OS and SS.

So the problem isnt the SS component its the ninjamancing component!

And you people wonder why those kind of posts get the "your just homophobic!" response...

Alistair is particularly bad at ninjamancing.

Morrigan is a bit more obvious.

Leliana ninja's my males as well as my females.

...Zev's actually pretty easy to dodge. I really don't see how people get ninja'd by him.

I don't understand why there are people who accidentally started a relationship with Zevran. I think it was quite clear which anwers led to a romance and which not. And it doesn't make anyone deaf to hear the compliments he has for you. You could always say no thanks in the game. And the feelings Zevran had for me never affected the romance between me and Leliana, Morrigan or Alistar. ô_o

Heart icons are total must for the dialogue wheel, and full-text dialogue games (should they still exist after this point) need to have tonality marked as well.

Seriously Leliana, I want to know if you're coping after your companion quest... and next thing I know you're all "WHY ARE YOU HANGING OUT WITH ZEV? DONT YOU LOVE ME?" "no" "THEN WHY DID YOU FLIRT WITH ME" "i didnt" "ARHUGIBUIHBIBU" "...." /reloads

NInjamacing is an atrocity regardless of gender or sexuality.

I wonder if Siansonea II is gonna explode one day? Obliterate half the BSN if a raging... biotic... inferno...? You get the idea. The only time I'm as rational as her (her... him... I don't know, sorry! D: ) is  when I engage in severe emotional suppression to deal with 'x' effectively. xD

I don't think people were reading between the lines when Zevran was offering to massage the Warden. :pinched:

Which I can imagine happening if 1) No sound or subtitles are on and B) You aren't paying attention to the animations whatsoever.

But with that line the romance didn't start. It was the "do you have problems if I think you're an attractive man" line.I don't know the real text he said but it was something like this. and there you had the possibility to turn him down hard or gentle.

Very true. Everytime someone types "I'm don't want a s/s romance because when I tried to be bros with Anders, he tried to romance my maleHawke blah blah" I feel the overwhelming need to point out that he does the exact same thing with femHawke, so the whole "gays are trying to convert us!" argument fails spectacularly. Especially when the three other s/s options don't ambush you with romances in the same way.

@Ryzaki, I always laugh when people complain about Zevran ninjamancing them. His romance triggers are practically signposting in flashing neon, complete with honking noises.

Yeah I agree.

My first playthru I was playing as an ElfMaleMage and was intending on making him gay and in love with our Zevvy; and before I even got him yet Alistair was like "So you and Morrigan huh?"
My response  wtf?

Seriously did not know how in gods name I had romanced her. I literally spoke to her in camp once. But I decided to go with it and made my ElfMage Morrigan's boy toy.

Later I was playing as a Dalish Warrior and again attempting to romance Zevran and Leliana ninjamanced me after her companion quest. Needless to say as I told her immediately to bugger off.

Alistair: Wouldn't know, never got round to making a female that lasted to a point where the Alistair romance could be completed (the two achievements tied to it are glaring at me as we speak but I just don't have the energy...)

Morrigan: Except if you accidentally gift her into romance, or talk abut her learning to love but telling her you don't feel that way and yet somehow she still coupled with me. Then Alistair was all "ohohoho! you two eh?" "Uhh... no, it's an approval error" "you can't trick me" "ARGGHHHH!"

Leliana: Pure evil Leliana, pure over-emotional evil. The fact that she's a rogue makes her just that more effective at ninja-mancing.

Zevran: Agreed. If you don't know he's flirting with you or that you're flirting with him... I don't even know... bash yourself in the head with the controller or keyboard.

And ME ninjas, I don' talk with Ash or Liara past the first conversation in ME now, it's too risky plus Liara is all glitchy and refuses to take no for an answer even when she actually does.

It's even harder with Jack or Miranda since Shepard is apparently some sort of sex-driven maniac who can biotically force the camera to pan all over their assets without being a biotic.

I think: "Tell me about your childhood, I think Cerberus screwed you over and I want you to let go of some of the pain because I'm a big softie"
Games interpretation: "Tell me about your childhood, just a little getting-to-know-you before I try and rip your absurd space bra off in a fit of lust"

Holy smokes you're the first gamer I've encountered that lived the atari times! My mom is your age and she's totally not technology compatible at all. She can't even use a computer XP. Hm yes...I think it'd be bad if there was no character ninjamancing the protagonist. It's stupid to make all of them act this way, yes...but it's part of some characters' personality...and I don't understand why there are people who feel threatend by this.
