But I couldn't find a diplomatic way to shut Ashley down without eventually pulling rank on her.

Yeah, this annoyed me as well.

It seems the only sure-fire way to stop an Ashley romance in its tracks is to rebuke her over her anti-alien comments, which seems really odd.

I mean, Shepard's just enforcing the chain of command, not shutting down anything romantic. The fact that she then goes on to have all the other conversations about her family and grandfather obviously means she still trusts Shepard (as a friend?) but it's awkwardly done.

Still, I think BW have learned from a lot of the mistakes when it comes to doing romances, not least because the ninjamancing is the number one complaint that everyone has about them.

Makes sense to me. She prefaces that talk by asking for it to be 'off the record", then you act like a dick and pull rank.

Exactly what happened to me in my first playthrough. That is a true "ninjamance". Not this "misreading signals" nonsense. Seriously, that's Kaidan's job. ;)

That's the most hilarious argument people use against him being available for s/s romance. "But what if he ninjamances my male Shepard OMG no!!!211" He's like the easiest character to turn down ever, he asks you himself if you want to turn him down lol "If I'm out of line, just say a word". He never gets mad and even apologizes for flirting with FemShep if you turn him down xD

Actually, I'm talking about "misreading signals" being Kaidan's job. :)

Exactly!
Edit: "No Kaidan, not every girl who talks about your past is interested in a relationship."

Holy smokes you're the first gamer I've encountered that lived the atari times! My mom is your age and she's totally not technology compatible at all. She can't even use a computer XP. You should see her move a mouse it's quite funny. She thinks you have to put your whole body into it or something. And she can't "double click" to save her life.

It is true, I was around in the antediluvian past, when Atari roamed the earth. I never had one though, I was still playin' Barbies back then (not that I ever stopped playin' Barbies, but that's neither here nor there). I actually only got into console gaming a few years ago, and Mass Effect was the first game I ever purchased. B)

It's true, I'm not quite a matriarch, but I'm a solid matron. I'm told I don't look my age though, so yay. :wizard:

I lived in the Atari times and I'm only 29... well I turn 30 next month but in gay years that's dead so I'm going to cling to 29 as long as possible. I had 2 Ataris when I was little though. Well my dad had them but I played them. We had a 2600 that only had 1 game (pong of course) and a 5200 with pacman and centipede and stuff. Centipede is the first one I have a real memory of playing. My first gamerrage was centinpede induced...

Which quite reminds me of s/s romances in ME because... uhm... Because I have been playing games for damn near 3 decades and it's high time I saw some m/m sci-fi lovin's. Yeah that's it. This post was totally on topic.:D

Anders gives you up to +15 rivalry points for rejecting him to clear that up.

Fenris gives you up to +25 rivalry points for daring to be a mage.

So yeah...I don't get the qq'ing about rivalry points.

Leliana has, in one hundred percent of the times when I wasn't already romancing her, professed her love for my Warden at one point or another and then given her the hurt-face talk regarding her duplicity and how she shouldn't lead Alistair on.

She's an unstoppable love juggernaut. I should consider myself fortunate that playthroughs where I don't romance Leliana are white-rhino-endangered-species rare. Dat voice.

...Lost my train of thought. What was I saying?

I got ninjamanced by Leliena FIVE TIMES in the same freaking playthrough

seriously I was a complete a-hole to her and she still got pissy at me for having gay sex no matter how many times I said NO I HATE J00

and to make things worse she came back to freaking life after I beheaded her in DA2

Once there is some news about possibly who will be S/S the hate will return. "What? Garrus like boys? Bullcrap! He's my bro!"

For the record Garrus isn't a bro.

Well, there's already been leak from Raphael Sbagre that Kaidan will be s/s in ME3 and actually, there wasn't really much "What? Kaidan likes boys?" about that lol :D

See I don't Kaidan. I mean I didn't really use is character much in ME1 nor did my MShep make a strong connection. I would like Garrus and/or Joker. If the only one is Kaidan my Shep may stay straight.

Also I am not attacking Kaidan, my Shep just has his eyes on other...calibrations.

Everyone has his favourite. But Kaidan happens to be the #1 choice for the majority. He won't be the only one anyway. New character s/s LIs (at least one for each gender) are already confirmed so it's granted Kaidan ain't the only one.

I like how there are some folk here older than me (i'm 25).

I find it hilarious though that one of the reasons people are bothered about s/s romance is because they don't want to be hit on.

I don't want my characters to be hit on by the opposite sex but some games force it (games where a straight relationship is part of the story).

Something I do like though, is when other characters acknowledge the relationship like in DAO I seem to remember Wynne giving me a talking to about Leliana :P

I don't know...it just makes me smile when it's brought up :)

One of the reasons I love Kasumi so much is because she mentions Liara if you romanced her in the first game

Yay for old people!  (I'll be 30 in a few months)  :wizard:

I definitely like it when the PC's relationship is acknowledged by other NPC's.  Wynne was one great example with Leliana, and Isabela was another with Merrill.
