I'm going to get IsaacShep and JeweledLeah a room. Sheesh. You guys go at it longer than Chun Hei and I do.

EDIT: Sorry, I got the names wrong.

you know who Id like the female S/S romance option to be modeled by(even though I will never use it)?

commander Ivanova from babylon 5 was bisexual and a pretty strong woman to boot who didnt spend every episode being captured or whining like a child or some other stereotypical bs

Ivanova was a great bisexual sci-fi lead. dynamic background with the psycorps and strong leadership skills. i would think she is a perfect model for folks playing a femshep.

there are lots of setting/plot/character parallels between babylon 5 and ME, and considering that show had non-straight characters almost 15 years ago, ME should be able to handle them today (much to the dismay of the heavily reported troll from the previous page).

OH HEY ARE WE TALKING ABOUT BABYLON 5 I LOVE THAT SHOW

Susan/Talia was a love story for the ages, man. It's downright criminal that Thompson left the show before that could really become anything. Though strangely I don't think I actually have a Shep modeled off of Ivanova, despite her being my very first SciFi Hero. I have a Wonder Woman Shep, and a Xena Shep, but no Ivanova Shep. Must go rectify this. Hypercompetent, emotionally reserved Sole Survivor who falls in love with Miranda, perhaps?

I was not particularly pushing for a s/s Miranda option before, as much sense as I think it would make for her, but suddenly it sounds quite necessary. ^_^

I managed to get up to Season 3 of B5 before I ran out of streaming locations. And I'm not paying the insane price for the DVD sets. Seriously. >.>
But yes, Ivanova/Talia was EPIC!

Yeah, there are always... other ways to watch old shows. Though back in the day when video rental stores still existed I used to check the later seasons out that way when I wanted to introduce a friend to the show, since you get extras and commentaries too. I always like trying to convert people cold, it's so much fun to see their first impressions. Nobody ever sees the Susan/Talia coming, which is funny, because in retrospect Talia's introduction is an absolutely boilerplate standard "introduce the love interest" subplot. Just goes to show how strong heteronormativity is -- people just don't see this stuff unless you flat out smack them in the face with it, no wonder so many fans are so insistent that every existing character must be straight (see me pull this all on-topic there? :D).

And let's not talk about the end of Xena, it's bad for my blood pressure.

If people want same-sex romance for MaleShep, fine. BUT !!! I want a dialogue option or something to point out that MY Shepard is COMPLETELY straight. And I don't want Kaiden or Vega or any male in the game hitting on Shepard, it could ruin the whole roleplay for me. Because their legs would be broken in few seconds if they would try to suggest something to my Shepard.

No offence guys.

Strawman has a point I think. It just makes sense that Shepard can come back from the dead to wage intergalactic war with cosmic horrors that appear as sentient cuttlefish spaceships with a Xanatos gambit going on trillions of years for fate of the known universe, but gays hitting on Shepard without the option to malicously break their legs with a nearby crowbar?

MY IMMERSION! SHE IS RUINED!

<_<

Thank you!

This is exactly what I was thinking.

I was with this guys point right up until he said he would want to break the legs of any Gay who even remotely liked him or his Avatar in ME3. Then I was like "yeh overreact much you homophobic idiot?"

Honestly.

People playing a Str8Shep should get the option to say nicely "no thank you I am straight" to anyone who hits on him of the same sex of course; for example my "main" Shep is straight and with Liara (cos Liara makes me squee at how awesome she is) and if Kaidan came onto him (as an example) he'd be like "I like you Kaidan but I dont swing that way man."

Yes ,I was overreacting, that was really stupid.  I'm sorry guys.   But ME3 still really needs an option: "Hey buddy, i'm not into men, don't even try"

I admit my mistake.

They were the reason I started watching the show.

Ja'Kar ;)
Yeah, the late great Andreas Kastulas was AMAZING as Ja'Kar. I also loved watching Londo's decent into darkness. The characters were wonderfully complex and all the actors were amazing.

So, we should probably talk about Mass Effect some more, huh?
Who wants some femshep/Samara action? I know I do. :D

I got mixed feelings about Samara. As is the case with Jack, I like her a lot if I don't think about her background too much. Jack is a completely twisted background and the way that she now casually dismisses all the carnage she's caused is truly vile unless you remind yourself its only a video game.

In a video game world it makes sense that OF COURSE Jack has never killed or injured an "innocent" person. I'm sure there were no civilians on that space station she destroyed and I'm sure the Turrian soldiers or police she brags about taking out were real bastards and NOT a bunch of guys who were simply doing their jobs trying to arrest a homicidal madwoman. And I'm sure all the other kids at the Cerberus facility really were attacking her and none were crying and begging for their lives while Jack rocked the place with her biotics.

Samara's Justicar code has been torn apart effectively by guys who spend WAY too much time thinking about these things, particularly Dean the Young. She may understand why others take offense how she is willing to even kill innocent people in the name of her code, but that sure doesn't stop her from doing it. Conveniently we never see too many gray areas with her. We see her kill some bloodthirsty mercenaries and her daughter is a serial killer.

Sometimes I think the ME writers try to hard to come up with extreme back-stories for their characters that they don't truly realize what they're writing.

Going ONLY on what they've DONE IN ME2 and ignoring their back stories, I like both characters, but I am happy Samara was willing to turn Shepard down EVEN THOUGH SHE HAS LUST IN HER HEART.

I sometimes wonder if Bioware had Jack and Samara turn down female Shepard because they didn't want to be accused of hypocrisy by introducing more female s/s romances without introducing any m/m relationships.

On the Samara note, i do appreciate that there's characters who can turn the main character down, but it only makes you want them all the more. (I'm looking at you, Avaline)

Youre not alone. Especially after I just played her loyalty mission. Her lines soooo sound like she's making a pass at you.
"Are you blushing?"
"N-no! It's just the fever! Honest!"

Ursula's fierce, but she still needs more makeup to cover up her face >_>

Also, if BW implements a "no ******" dialogue flag, I can just imagine how it would go:
AT THE TRIAL OF COMMANDER SHEPARD, VANCOUVER, EARTH
Khalisah al-Jilani: Commander Shepard, I have sources who have reported that you broke several fraternization rules in your tour of duty and attempted to flirt with a number of members of your crew both in the Alliance and in the terrorist group Cerberus. In light of this information, is it true that you left <Virmire Sacrifice> to die but saved <Virmire Survivor> for the possibility of pursuing an illegal romantic relationship?
<Virmire Survivor/Spectre>: *punches al-Jilani*
mShepard: Even though I saved Kaidan, I'm not interested in men/Snide insinuations about my orientation/I am interested in men, but that's not why I saved Kaidan/Snide insinuations based upon my orientation/Even though I saved Ashley, I am not interested in women/I saved Ashley and am interested in women, but I'm not interested in her specifically/Yes/etc./Vice versa for femShepard
Of course, this would mean that orientation would come up in the game and all the sensitive gamers would freak out--though maybe at least some will just blame it on al-Jilani >_>

(This could also be a flag for VS if BW decides to let new players choose whom they saved without using a comic)

Nope. Tali is the only one I really want as f/f option....that is, want it enough not to romance beloved Liara in at least 1 playthrough.
Let's say we get Miranda or Jack, I'd be happy for those who wanted them but wouldn't be too excited about it.

Well, if everyone's preferences are known and a few people are paying attention and directing things a bit, you can set up effective "bisexual buffer zones," as it were, for the straights and queers. Or so I hear :bandit:

I could be interested in a s/s Tali romance, depending on how it was done. Liara's ME1 romance tripped near every damn squick I even have, my inner queer activist and my inner feminist were competing over who could be the most revolted. As of LotSB, though, taken as a whole I kind of love it, and I think the drinks up in the captain's cabin for a Liaramancing Shep is easily one of the best scenes in either game and all DLCs, romance or otherwise.

So, if they did something like that -- if the ME3 continuation of the Tali romance brings her back toward her ME1 self and sheds a lot of the squickier elements, or even just plays out *differently* as a natural consequence of character growth, and then the s/s romance sort of picks up there, reflecting a more mature ME3 direction rather than being a carbon copy of the ME2 dynamic, I'd be quite happy to play it. There's some interesting potential there, and certainly more than enough setup (the way Hale delivers it, that "are you blushing" dialog is pretty close to the ME2 version of "Dismissed, Chief" for "this is so blatant it isn't even subtext anymore").
