I'm a fan of same-sex romance as long as they respect the sexual orientation of previous romances like Miranda, Ashley, Thane, etc...

Which we don't know what their exact sexual orientation is since they never declared it. Fact.

Been through this - we don't necessarily know the orientation of people as it isn't always announced, amongst other things..

Isn't Ashley Catholics and Thane married or was married?

Also, what about all the emails about Miranda trying to get pregnant?

You can be gay/bi and be Catholic, married, and trying to get pregnant.

Church membership, marriage certificate and/or desire to have a child do not have magical powers that erase attraction to the same gender if a person is bisexual. F-A-C-T.

No she isn't.  All we know is she believes in a god figure.  For all we know it could be Zeus though I imagine it's something more along the traditional Judeo-Christian figure.  Also it's irrelevant, there are plenty of non-heterosexual  Catholics and Christians.  I happen to be one of the latter.

ForumPortal wrote...

Also irrelevant as that's more a women thing, not a straight thing. (Pre-emptive warning to all the people who are about to launch into me about this sentence I know not all women want babies.)  Heck TBH the desire to procreate is pretty strong in most humans regardless of sexual orientation.

ETA: Well I think we all pretty quickly and conclusively shot down that post. LOL.  We don't mean to gang up on ya ForumPortal we just all happened to be along at the same time and have heard this incorrect set of arguments used so many times before that it's very easy for us to shoot down quickly.

But there no evidence of any bisexual feelings from any of these characters. If Kaidan made a off-hand flirt comment to my male Shepard in ME1, I would have suspect he is bisexual but afraid toshow his feeling or maybe bi curious,

Also that's not fact Isaac. That's your opinion.

Ash believes in God, that's all the game tells us. There are several monotheistic religions that would fit (for example, Judaism), and she might be philosophically deist rather than religious. Besides which, I do know a bisexual catholic and a gay christian, so it's very possible, she just might feel conflicted about it.

As for Miri, if her father can have a child without a donor, I assure you it would be far easier with two women.

As for Thane, how would you know someone was Bi if they were only married to one person and had no other information about them?

Another point for Ash: the only way for Ash to know that Femshep likes women is for
Femshep to already be in a relationship with Liara, and the game
otherwise assumes you like Kaidan, so it doesnt seem like such a
stretch, really. As far as Ash knows, Shepard is spoken for.

Lack of evidence is not evidence of absence.

P.S. Not clever if you point out it's not evidence that it means something is there for sure.  That's a position NO ONE has taken.  Just that it's a possibility.  See the definition of a strawman fallacy.

Actually it is in United States judicial courts. If a women doesn't report a rape, assault, or theft. Then technically by the court, the crime never happened unless said crimes been reported.

Arguments can be made for and against opening up existing characters to same-sex relationships in addition to existing opposite-sex relationships. Ultimately, it doesn't matter what the arguments are, it's all open to interpretation and subjective perception of the characters. What does matter is what each of us would like to see for our own games.

I'm pretty easy to please. Let my female Adept continue to romance Liara, and let my male Sentinel have a nice human man to make his personal life more meaningful, for whatever time he has left. My other four Shepards are either asexual, promiscuous, or in committed heterosexual relationships with existing characters.

Everyone can romance who they want already. If I wanted to romance Garrus or Thane I'd play a femshep. If I want to romance Miranda or Tali I play a maleshep. Some people want to romance Joker, Anderson, EDI in a android body, the asari councilor, Mordin, Hackett, etc. etc.  Where does it end? At what point do the developers just concentrate on making a great game and not an intergalactic dating simulator. Why can't they just make deep characters and maximize their dialog instead to sacrificing resources so that a handful of people can enjoy their  choice of virtual blow up dolls.

Ohhh com'on guys, I can't believe we didn't think of this earlier!!! I mean, we can romance whomever we want as long as we change our Shepard's gender!!
Only "straight" Shepards get "virtual blow up dolls" YEY! :wizard:

Really off topic please look at the OP.

Not taking that particular flamebait is extremely difficult but I shall resist!

Evidence? I too provided no evidence of being bi/gay until a woman swept me off my feet!!

Yes. I agree with this. I had a game where my shepard went through all the male Romances and ended up with Kelly cuz she was the last thing available before getting back with Liara in LoTSB. She was a playa in that PT.Image IPB

I find all this talk of "evidence" and "courts" to be quite distasteful, frankly. Being gay/bisexual/lesbian shouldn't be discussed in the same terms as crime. Not in this thread, anyway.

So, back on topic.Onto implementation. If old squaddies become open to same sex romances, what would be the best way for them to explain why they didn't come out to your earlier?

Obviously, for a Liara/Kelly romancing Shepard, they can say "Well, you were taken!"
Kaidan does assume Shepard is straight if Shepard's female, so it could easily be extended to male Shepard. Other LIs can also say "I thought you were straight" if you have a Bisexual Shepard.

More ideas?

Kaidan thinks Shepard is straight, he says it to FemShep when her sexual orientation is brought up after she gets involved in a lesbian romance with Liara. Since there's no option for ManShep to get involved in a gay romance, the topic of ManShep's sexual orientation is never brought up and Kaidan continues to think ManShep is straight. Since he thinks ManShep is straight he logically thinks he has no chace with him by default so why, oh why would he flirt with him?

That's one. Second, lack of evidence is not an evidence. Just because someone didn't say he/she is also attracted to the same gender it doesn't mean he/she is straight. Neither Ash or Kaidan deny attraction to the same gender. Based on what we know about them and what they tell us, they are either straight or bi. Frankly, I'm questioning if you're just trolling or not. I've repeated this stuff several times to you yet you keep saying they have an established sexual orientation when they never declared their sexual oriantation.

ForumPortal wrote...

No, church membership, marriage certificate and maternal instinct not having magical powers that erase attraction to the same gender if a person is bisexual is not an opinion. It's a fact.

I think it is pretty clear that those characters are heterosexual. To expect characters to make unnecessary and out of the blue declarations of their heterosexuality would be absurd. Their actions tell us enough. In the case of Jack, she actually does specify her lack of interest in the female sex. Even then people continue to apply these mental gymnastics to come to their desired, albeit flawed, conclusions. Miranda could have revealed her interest in femshep just as easily as she does with maleshep. Thane could have just as easily revealed his interest in maleshep, but he doesn't.

I understand that you may personally desire everyone to be bisexual  for your own personal delight, but if you were truly honest with yourself I think we could agree that you want Bioware to retcon certain characters sexual orientation.

I'm sorry, I hope this doesn't offend anyone but, why is this thread still going? S/S Romances are peoples choice! And if you don't like it, don't flirt with the Guy/Girl! It's a game! It has a Load Option so you can go back if you don't like what happened!
