@ Jeweledleah -- Maybe IsaacShep has been exposed to gamma radiation. Perhaps Gay Hulk and She Hulk have similar ME outlooks?

According to Peter David, Gay Hulk and She Hulk may have more overlap than you think.... B)

even if its a cheap solution (and judging by precedent of DA2 - its the favorite one - they just replaced like one or 2 gender specific words here and there, copy pasted the rest)

That's only partly true, you know. There's a moderate amount of variation between the male and female romances for Anders and Merrill, at least. Not that I want to overstate things, they are pretty similiar for the most part, but it does amount to more than saying "him" instead of "her".

I am perfectly happy to have "gender-neutral" romances with fairly minimal variation between genders of romancing PC. I mean, I think Zev works pretty well, but I'm completely unable to romance Anders with a female Hawke, the patronizing gender-specific way he treats a femPC just turns me completely off. A lot of folks love it and more power to them, but I'm not crying any tears if they give me the same Ash in ME3 that they'd give Sheploo.

Snipped the rest in the interest of space, but yes. That's more or less my stance too. I don't much mind overlap when it actually works as well for both genders. I do appreciate the odd little variation here and there along the way - Leliana springs to mind - but wouldn't expect an entirely unique romance for either gender. Can't say I've ever really felt the need to treat past partners differently based on what gender they were.

Eh, the s/s romances in Bioware games I've played (which isn't all of the romances, but a fair amount) haven't been especially 'copy 'n' paste' between the two genders. Liara's was, ish, but it never really come across as being designed with one gender in mind and then quickly slapped onto the other.

IDK, depends on the romance. You play Morrigan's or Bastilla's as a femPC via mod, and you basically can't tell the difference. You play Carth's or Alistair's with a dudePC, and it's weird; you're constantly being called beautiful and referred to as a woman (Kaidan's is better, but he'll still call you beautiful and compare you to his ex-girlfriend). Romances that are s/s from the start like the DA2 LIs are often much more in the vein of the Morrigan/Bastila, in that they - as you say - address your PC as a person, rather than as a woman.

Which frankly, I vastly prefer. I would much rather have a partner who thinks of me as a person and understands I want to be addressed that way to a partner who thinks of me as a woman and needs to work that into every damn thing they say to me. It feels far more respectful and genuine and I don't think it's an accident that largely straight male writers tend to write their romances for straight men from that perspective.

Obviously, that's an opinion, and subject to disagreement. I'm just saying: I am perfectly happy to have "gender-neutral" romances with fairly minimal variation between genders of romancing PC.

I agree wholeheartedly.

aah, right, so you are basically exactly what you accuse other people to be. you don't want others to have choices, you want YOU to have a choice that was denied to you. you are just looking at it from the same sex perspective so I guess its ok to deny players choices, as long as your choices gets covered. you are exactly like the people who don't want same sex romances to be implemented.

The hell are you talking about? Did all the bitterness erase Kaidan's romance in ME1 from your memory? THERE ALREADY IS A CHOICE TO HAVE A STRAIGHT ROMANCE WITH KAIDAN! It's there in ME1! What? You're gonna tell me it's not? Not only that but considering it will be continued in ME3, it will be bigger than the gay romance ever will by default.

jeweledleah wrote...

they would have to open them up for both Shepards

Why? THERE ALREADY IS A ROMANCE WITH KAIDAN/ASH FOR OPPOSITE-SEX SHEPARD HELOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

jeweledleah wrote...

P.S.  my prediction right now.  the new romances are going to be very deliberately non gender specific, with characters rarely if ever awknoleding Shepard as anything other then Shepard.  there might be one or to beautiful/handsome comments, but that would be the extent of the difference between romances.

Your predictions are the same as they were before because we don't know yet which old LIs will be available for new o/s romances.

At this point the "damage" has already been done if you are a s/s VS fan, and IF they are available for s/s in ME3 I will be happy that they at least tried to "fix" it when they could have just as easily said, "Sorry, but it's too late now."

I'll just look at the original ME trilogy as the Lt. Uhura of the ME franchise. Sure, you wish the role would have been larger, but by simply being there the opportunity has be created for better things in the future.

Not necessarily. She talks about how much she enjoys having sex with men but doesn't really say a lot of male specific things about the male Wardens affections or sexual performance.

Yeah, she calls you an "odd little man" once if you choose the wrong flirt to initiate the romance. And of course all the squad banters are about "Morrigan and him." That's about it.

I'll just look at the original ME trilogy as the Lt. Uhura of the ME franchise.

Drop-dead gorgeous and due a respectful remake forty years from now? Could be worse.

I mean the point where she says how surprised she was to see a competent man for a change. I thought her realisation that men can be more than just tools to be used was prety important to how her romance played out.

That could be only my impression though, so it's not really important

I thought that was her friend dialog with a male Warden?

It's been awhile since I played the modded Morrigan romance though...

Yeah, but she tries to initiate romance after that convo. Perhaps there are other ways to do her romance, i'm certainly not a specialist. I still think it's geared towards male PC and requires some changes to fit female PC. Picky Mash is picky

If you hit on her, you'll get the "cold in my tent" scene.

If you don't, and continue to help her and respect her, you get pretty much get the friendship scene. You can romance her that way as well, by telling her you thought you two could be more. Unless you're with someone. Then she refuses to romance you until you breakup with so-so.

Though oddly it's not like that with Leli.

As Mac says, some ME1/ME2 character can be romanced in ME3. Most likely these same people can be romanced by both sexes.

I'm all for s/s but I doubt I will do a man on man relation, only a woman on woman. Yeah I am a hypocrite.

That's not hypocritical. I've always appreciated that lesbians were (somewhat) represented in ME1 and ME2, and I'll absolutely play a gay male Shepard in ME3... but I've never played a lesbian Shepard, and I don't really plan to. Neither of us are hypocrits, we just like what we like.

Campaigning for lesbian Shepard while simultaniously campaigning AGAINST gay male Shepard, now THAT'S hypocritical.

There's nothing wrong with preferring one pairing over the other....just only when girl-on-girl is totally fine to have in game, but guy-on-guy isn't.

Yay double-standards....

You're not a hypocrite. A hypocrite would say only woman and woman should be in the game but man on man should go die in a fire. I don't usually do the lesbian romances myself (rather do the gay ones). Just preferences.

And massively ninja'd by KawaiiKatie. Figures.

I'm a straight male who has never done a gay/lesbian romance on my "real" play-throughs, just in my metagaming just to see what would happen. But just because I don't play them doesn't mean that I don't support the option.

Male is my main canon but playingas a female can get some unique dialogue, I will do anything to expand the lifeline of my games.

Ya I'm a straight female, only ever play as straight Sheploo and I'm all for the addition of some s/s content. Doesn't mean I'd ever play it, but it's nice so everybody has the option.

Oh come on, you all know you'd go gay for a little krogan loving.

(What? Someone had to say it.)
