Life so hard when you're straight.

And single gendered. Let's not forget that.

But I'm just being crabby. Everyone goes through struggles, and no one struggle is inherently 'worse' than the other; society stigmas may make one more noticably difficult, but YMMV.

That said... self entitlement. Ew.

They may not be worse than other struggles, but there certainly are more of them if you're a minority.

No doubt. I find myself more pained and incredulous when I'm being ridiculed by non-straight people, because some stupidly biased part of my brain thinks there should be inherit understanding.
Dear God, if I had a nickle for every time I was given an odd look and an awkward silence for explaining my sexuality/gender, I'd be rich.

Anyway, I don't think gay - or straight - characters flirting with your Shep who doesn't swing that way should ruin your gaming experience. Just like in real life, people flirt. It happens. Sometimes you're just not interested, and you politely say so. It's not the end of the world.

Er... that was a general you.

I think I need sleep. Of delicious, delicious coffee.

I felt this way when talking with my uncle (he's straight but a minority) about discrimination. Apparently to him it's okay that homosexuals are discriminated but not blacks. Because you can't choose to be black but you can somehow choose to be gay. =] I got so angry I burst into tears. I mean... you KNOW what it's like for people to look down on you because of something you can't change that's not harming anyone. Why on earth would you put anyone else through that?

There was a scene included in Tom Bissell's interview with Jennifer Hale in the New Yorker the other day, if that counts. It's a few pages back, but it included both Ashley and Kaidan (Shepard had to say 'Let go of him/her') and it apparently set up the way the characters would interact with Shep throughout the game.

This is all complicated. The same things can be understood in different ways and messages can really get mixed up. Whatta mess we will have.Image IPB

So you want your "mature" games to hand hold you through the adventure, beat you over the head with the obvious, and spoon feed you options that require no thought what-so-ever?

Feels like to me this petition was made to bioware in the same emotions and principles as those in real life, for the sole reason of this particular group of people feeling "left out" and without an option in role-playing the way they themselves act in real life, some would consider it "discrimination". So my concern would be...I enjoyed learning Thane's background, I know that for a female shep there is a romance available with him, obviously this wasn't the case with the male shep, now if anything...I'm going to keep an eye out for the same sex members of my group not getting the wrong message and thinking I'm trying to flirt with them! in other words...that screws up MY experience of the game.

Wow. Something that takes up 0.0001% of the time you'll probably spend playing ME3 will ruin your experience? Get a life.
First of all, stop trying to make gays and lesbians (in the context of this topic) into the same kind of whiny, self-victimizing morons that YOU apparently are, given what you just posted. I never felt "left out" or "discriminated against" by ME/ME2, so stop making generalizations about an entire demographic group and putting words in peoples mouthes. If anyone is guilty of feeling victimized because the game isn't exactly what they want, it's probably the people who get upset over the inclusion of s/s relationships moreso than the people who want them in the game.
Also FYI, the dialogue option that triggers the romance with Thane in ME2 is "I want you, Thane," so I'd say it will probably be pretty easy for you to avoid starting a romance you don't want.
This post reeks of subtle homophobia.

Human nature to ostracize that which is different. It's animal nature, even. On a deeper, more primal level of the human psyche, it's instinct to push away that which is not the same because that could draw unwanted attention to yourself and I won't lie and say that my friends have never been asked ridiculous and/or intrusive/hurtful questions about me and their relation to me.

Anyway! On Topic!

...
I want Joker for a same-sex romance. Or Garrus. Maybe both.

...
And Miranda.

Nothing in the EA press conference at Gamescom about romances...

Heck, nothing about characters at all. The trailer they showed was purely combat, the first in a series of (I think) six...

Even the squad banter was combat-related (albeit context sensitive, which was nice). I'm not really appreciating the marketing direction at all. Emphasise combat, sure, but so far we've had just about nothing else.

Edit: That doesn't mean we won't get more announcements as the conference continues. I'm just struck by how consistently they're pushing the combat, and completely leaving out the fact that there's exploration, characters and a story. Which are meant to be Bioware's strengths...

Well... at least marketing's not treating femShep as if she was a dirty little secret like they did for ME2.

Agreed.  They did a horrible job of that in ME2.  Archangel turning out to be Garrus should have been a nice surprise.  Jack turning out to be...well Jack was also supposed to be surprising.  Grunt's recruitment mission should have been been a "what a twist" since Okeer ends up dead but since you already knew you got Grunt instead his death was preordained.  I would rather them just keep on showing combat videos rather than a bunch of spoilers that ruin what should have been surprising.

One way to not give anything away would be to just give numbers.

"In ME3 there will be 4 s/s LIs total, 3 possible betrayals, one possible wedding and 2 possible pregnancies. We will only confirm one ninjamance."

Then let the forum overflow with speculation.

I think ME3 should enter an obsessive biotic activist names Anders. He'll want to visit the citadel and wants Shepard to distract the council for just a few minutes...

What about a randy promiscous bisexual Eclipse sister? Or an angry anti-biotic extremist? A super cute Quarian illegal AI tech? How about a volus storyteller with chest hair?

Did BioWare revealed too much in some of the trailers? Yes. Are people trying to put all the blame on BioWare for their own inability to stay away from new videos/trailers that they simply KNOW will have spoilers? Hell to the yes.

Lol that would be a really funny easter egg. I would kind of half consider it too. I mean I was fine with the council being skeptical in the first game, but after they didn't believe me about the collectors... Those councillors will be getting a taste of Shep pretty quick. Except Anderson. Anderson's cool.

Just not getting ninjamanced into gay relationships would be nice.
Actually into any relationship.
Or atleast an interrup option "Well hey, do we really want to do it? Now?"

Alaways have had in real life respect for someone who says "No, thanks."  Would like to have same in game. Ninjamancing is like you get brain raiped or something.

If I could (or have to I guess, since I would rather everyone was bi) choose the S/S romances it would be:

Men:
Kaidan
Garrus
Vega
Joker

Women:
Ash
Tali
Vigilante
Kelly

(No Asari listed because their technically not women it seems:whistle:)

You can have a romance with Kelly as femshep in ME2

I know, it would be a continuation or could pick up there as the equivilant to Joker.

I haven't really got the time or the will to read through 17 pages of whatever the new incarnation of the "OMG S/S NOOOOO" thread is, but I noticed the original poster's first post (later modified) again mentioned Garrus hitting on maleShepard.

What is it with Garrus?!

Garrus and the aliens could be considered "Gross!" even by many s/s supporters, so if you are a s/s critic it could be used to make the s/s supporters look REALLY deviant. I say to each their own and if Bioware gives players the option, I say good for the xenophiles.
