Psh, that's not even a word. Next you'll be telling me there are non-white nerds and gender's not a binary and women who sleep with asari are in s/s relationships. Crazy talk!

@Dhiro: In my experience, sex + migraine is a good way to have bad sex. So I'm going to go with a "no" on that one. Kaidan's been denied a nice vigorous roll with dude!Shep for a long time now, I don't want him to break the streak with anything less than spectacular funtimes. :)

Having just watched the interview where the producer confirms that there is no same gender romance, I am actually kind of angry. Not only did he not offer any explanation for it whatsoever, but responded so quickly with an almost smug and condescending demeanor. He then proceeded to talk about the 8 classes offered by the game as if that were the question that was asked. If he had at least made an effort to apologize or say why, I wouldn't be upset.

Well, when TOR fails (because it's not going to be able to stand up to the WoW machine) I hope EA doesn't take it out entirely on Bioware and close the studio. I want Bioware to be able to continue with it's other franchises (Mass Effect, Dragon Age... Hopefully even Jade Empire someday).

Edited the last line of the first paragraph out. Calling someone I've never met disgusting is disrespectful on my part and I'm better than that. :innocent:

I don't really think he sounded all that patronizing. Sounds more like he was trying to avoid a touchy topic.

So, back to ME.

Some friends and I were talking about Kaidan's headache. I sugested that hot gay sex would be great for him. One of them said it wouldn't.

Opinions?

You're 100% right and it is a proven fact steamy gay sex can cure any headache and your friend was wrong :D

That's the point. It's shows they're scared of s/s questions and want to avoid having to come up with never-convincing excuses why it wasn't implemented yet still have gay players buy the game. Not this time BW/EA/LA

Ya that's true. They're probably just thinking of it from a marketing perspective. From the mmo audience there are likely more homophobes than there are gays and lesbians. It's sad, I know, but it's probably the truth.

I think there is a lot of evidence to the contrary, such as the blushing incident between Tali and Femshep, not to mention the LotSB dossier on Tali about looking up human mating rituals or whatever, NO MATTER the gender of the Shepard.

Tali pretty much has the same flirty conversation with femshep as she does with male shep.  The only difference is that male shep has the option to say he is interested and and femshep doesn't.  That should be remedied in ME3.  It would be rude to leave Tali hanging like that.

I have a male Shepard waiting anxiously for Ashley to become available again, and I am debating making a female Shepard for her if she becomes s/s option. I don't know if I should have Shepard be forgiving or POed about Horizon. Is angry sex as awesome for s/s couples as it is for o/s ones [I guess you mythical bi people may know the answer best, too bad you don't exist]? I assume the make up sex would be awesome, too.

There's something that I've been pondering recently. As of right now, Liara is the only LI who's romanceable by both Male and Female Shepards. This occasionally causes a rift with Liara fans who feel that she's "better paired" with one gender over another.

I'm wondering if you folks think there will be that same sort of rift in other characters if/when they become available to both o/s and s/s romances? Which character do you think would experience it the worst?

I hope not. The forums are generally obsessive enough without people arguing over which 'quantum gender' of a fictiona, player-created character matches better with a transparent fictional NPC who has a few dozen lines of dialogue.

It'd give me a headache, for starters. Can't people just accept that both are valid options? Why does one have to be 'better'?

IDK. I know the DA2 fanthreads tend to be fairly civil about that. There are definitely people who prefer Merrill/m!Hawke over Merrill/f!Hawke and vice versa, that was the topic on the thread when I checked in about an hour ago today. I've had discussions myself about liking Izzy better with f!Hawke, and Anders with m!Hawke. But it's generally just a matter of curiosity, like... an ME thread about "what's your favorite psych profile/history." Not a big deal by any means, certainly not worth warring over the way I've seen Liara fans do. So I think there's another factor there, though I can't imagine what.

Whatever happens, though, I predict Kaidan gets the least of it. Tali, Ash and Garrus are the three I've seen the most pushback on in terms of "keep your ****** hands off my character," so I imagine they'd likely get it worst.

IDK. I know the DA2 fanthreads tend to be fairly civil about that. There are definitely people who prefer Merrill/m!Hawke over Merrill/f!Hawke and vice versa, that was the topic on the thread when I checked in about an hour ago today. For me it depends on several things: in Mass Effect I think a paragon femShep and Liara make a great couple. I think some of it is both of voice actors to me, sound like two women who love each very much and that they could have a future together. While IMHO a renegade FemShep and Liara as well as MaleShep (either paragon or renegade) and Liara just doesn't have that chemistry too me, to me MaleShep feels better with either Ash and/or Miranda. While my major Renegade FemShep slept with Kaiden in ME1 and Jacob in ME 2.

I only play as a female Hawke in Dragon Age II and too me it depends on what class. Now I mainly play as, a rouge Hawke to me she seems to fit well with Isabella. As a mage I might lean more towards Merrill, and as a warrior I might lean towards Isabella or Fenris. That doesn't mean I haven't had a rouge go off with Merrill or a mage with Isabella.

So it depends my mood, on how I play a character, and as well character class at least in DA2.

Eh why the hell not. It's not as if I am interested but it aint gonna happen unless you make it happen with conversation choices. However one thing i hatted with me is it was impossible to further a platonic relationship with a possible romance partner. They always ended up trying to get in youre paints. And then getting miffed when you turned them down. If this is included i want a branching relationship with a choice at some point to display romantic "interest" after which if not flagged the relationship proceeds without romantic interferance. Since I really dont want to have to be fighting my entire crew off with a taser stick.

The only s/s relationship I've done are Liara/Shepard renegade and Isabela/Hawke sarcastic promiscuous. In both cases I prefer the VA interaction to the male version. I do have a male Shepard with Liara, but it leaves me kind of cold. I prefer Ashley.

As for Lady Hawke and Isabela, I found it felt "right" for her to go with the flow with Isabela, which means regular visits to the Rose and Zevran gets some happy time. I can only stand Isabela and male Hawke on rivalry, but I hate having to metagame to get her rivalry score high enough not to lose her.

I prefer the "straight" rivalry with Merrill, because it felt "right" to me, while the female seemed to work best with friendship. But again I had to metagame against my gaming instincts since I was never sympathetic to her mirror building.

Of the "gay" male Hawkes I've tried I preferred the Anders, but again I had to metagame like mad and I hate doing that in an RPG. I haven't the stomach to try a rivalry with him. The Fenris seemed okay with either gender or Hawke the "honorary" Templar.

Really? The m!Hawke/Izzy relationship squicks me like crazy on Rivalry. (Well, okay, mostly just those two lines in the final conversation, but since that's 30% of the romance right there...) I don't love it all that much with a f!Hawke either but the "tamed by a good man" aspect just pushes it over the edge. Merrill likewise; the patronizing inequality of the Rival path is bad enough with f!Hawke, I could never play it with a dude, way too much gross cultural context. (I could probably do it if I could kill Hawke, but sadly, unlike Shep and the Warden, there's no way to pull that off. :()

Fenris I agree, he's fine either way with either gender; to me it matters more whether Hawke's a mage.

BUT HAY THAT'S OFF-TOPIC :bandit:, so. Mass Effect-wise: I agree that Liara feels more right with paragon f!Shep than anyone else. I hadn't ever really thought about why, but yeah, the voice acting does have a lot to do with it. As far as other characters go.... I'd prefer Tali with a f!Shep over m!Shep if that were an option (see above re: Merrill), and I think probably f!Shep/Joker over m!Shep/Joker as well, though in that case I'm less sure why I'd think so. Beyond that, I guess I'd have to see how they do the ME3 relationships with returning characters.

On the DA2 note, while I may play a "nice" or a "mean" character, I only do so in the way that feels "natural" to the character I'm playing. The problem with being tough on Isabela is that the "natural" choice way doesn't earn me ENOUGH rivalry points to get the LI activated, so then I have to either let her leave in Act 2 or start meta-gaming.

That is pretty much how I play my "renegade" and "paragon" Shepards. I was surprised how well my "tough" [NOT "evil"] female renegade Shepard got along with Liara and seemed to "fit." Liara was the only soft spot Tacara Shepard would allow herself, and she would only do a "paragon" choice is Liara asked her to. That's why the Rachni queen survived.

I was pretty much resigned to the fact that my "tough" Shepard was going to save the council, but then it was LIARA who convinced her that it would be a waste of Alliance resources to save the Destiny Ascension. Oh well, goodbye council...

Most of us here would agree with you on that. The ME tradition of "do me or I calibrate early" does grate the nerves, as is the age old Bioware tradition of "if you talk to the opposite gender character for more than five minutes that means you want to mess with their junk." While not perfect, DA2 did a better job of allowing the hero to develop a close friendship with a character that wasn't romanced, EVEN IF they broke up or got turned down. Hopefully ME takes that formula and improves upon it.
