The only s/s relationship I've done are Liara/Shepard renegade and Isabela/Hawke sarcastic promiscuous. In both cases I prefer the VA interaction to the male version. I do have a male Shepard with Liara, but it leaves me kind of cold. I prefer Ashley.
As for Lady Hawke and Isabela, I found it felt "right" for her to go with the flow with Isabela, which means regular visits to the Rose and Zevran gets some happy time. I can only stand Isabela and male Hawke on rivalry, but I hate having to metagame to get her rivalry score high enough not to lose her.
I prefer the "straight" rivalry with Merrill, because it felt "right" to me, while the female seemed to work best with friendship. But again I had to metagame against my gaming instincts since I was never sympathetic to her mirror building.
Of the "gay" male Hawkes I've tried I preferred the Anders, but again I had to metagame like mad and I hate doing that in an RPG. I haven't the stomach to try a rivalry with him. The Fenris seemed okay with either gender or Hawke the "honorary" Templar.
Really? The m!Hawke/Izzy relationship squicks me like crazy on Rivalry. (Well, okay, mostly just those two lines in the final conversation, but since that's 30% of the romance right there...) I don't love it all that much with a f!Hawke either but the "tamed by a good man" aspect just pushes it over the edge. Merrill likewise; the patronizing inequality of the Rival path is bad enough with f!Hawke, I could never play it with a dude, way too much gross cultural context. (I could probably do it if I could kill Hawke, but sadly, unlike Shep and the Warden, there's no way to pull that off.

Fenris I agree, he's fine either way with either gender; to me it matters more whether Hawke's a mage.
BUT HAY THAT'S OFF-TOPIC

, so. Mass Effect-wise: I agree that Liara feels more right with paragon f!Shep than anyone else. I hadn't ever really thought about why, but yeah, the voice acting does have a lot to do with it. As far as other characters go.... I'd prefer Tali with a f!Shep over m!Shep if that were an option (see above re: Merrill), and I think probably f!Shep/Joker over m!Shep/Joker as well, though in that case I'm less sure why I'd think so. Beyond that, I guess I'd have to see how they do the ME3 relationships with returning characters.
