When all it takes is a google search to check your facts... it's a research failure.FitScotGaymer wrote...
The whole blonde thing being an urban myth; well I suspect a lot of people wont know it. And I didnt disagree that it wasnt an urban myth, or that it was a case of "did not do the research" here. I was merely pointing out that as far as scientific errors in the ME universe go this one is pretty small.
That's what the masks are for. There are a number of much larger, much more obvious mistakes that they should never have made.
Okay firstly the whole mass effect fields thing doesnt work because Mass Effect Fields in ME Science! are porous also because if they didnt allow the passage of air molecules through the person inside would suffocate fairly quickly.
So nope doesnt work as an arguement.
I can suspend my disbelief just fine. Except for things which are blatantly wrong. It's not a case of everyone having shiny blue eyes because of the spice Melange. It's a case of 'someone heard from their cousin's best friend that blondes are going extinct so we should put that in our game as true facts!' Which is just laziness. If you cant suspend your disbelief over the small nitpicky things then the problem is yours not the developers.
Getting big things right just makes it that much easier to spot the little things because we're not focusing on the big thing. That's what I meant. If you go to the effort of getting the big things right, then getting the little things wrong just smacks of laziness and you will get caught out by even not-so-observant fans.If they had gotten all the bigger things right I might have agreed with you that they should have done the research on the details; but as they didnt... it is a lot to hope for that they get the small things right.
I have zero problems with the vast majority of MEverse lore. Even unbelievable things like Shepard's body surviving atmospheric re-entry and then a ballistic impact on the surface of a planet have no effect on my suspension of disbelief. Could they have done a better job with it? Sure, but I'm not raging about it. I'm not even raging about the blonde thing. I just think should do their research the way any competent writer should.
