Hey Uncanny!
I agree. You get to know a bit about what's going on inside her brain through conversations and helping her about her sister. I may be reading her wrong, to me it's sort of like a building with somewhat shaky foundations propped up by huge, super strong counterforts. And you get to know those different aspects. She can meld those aspects together into a whole, one-piece Miranda. She would no longer use aspects of her personality as a resource or as a front to overcompensate for other things that are lacking somewhere else; she would still be the Miranda we know, but her personality would come out naturally.

I think this would be a necessary first step to see this growth from being someone looking for a place to fit in to someone who shapes the world to create that place. This is kind of what Vito Corleone went through in the Godfather (the book).

Ah? What else did you like about her?

That she's a doctor: financial security & skilled hands!

Also her outfit... it looks like PVC or something. She looks rather like Dr Dominatrix...! :P

Should I add you to the Dr. Chakwas list? She looks like she could be... stern... when she wants to be.

I'm not averse to a little mature action...

Hmm, good to know. I admit it could be fun if she was a Kellyesque romance, though I kindasorta doubt it.

Her having Carolyn Seymour's voice doesn't hurt either I imagine.

Hey Nyoka!

That's a really good point I think. Miranda is largely a reactive rather than proactive character.

I'd like to see that change. I'd like to see her take control of her circumstances.

You guys shouldn't be afraid of voicing these opinions in the Miranda thread. Folks there are opinionated to be sure but they are not unfriendly.

I love the voice acting!

Never really thought of Chakwas as a romance option (she was always more a 'caring ship-wide aunt' figure), but she's definitely a strong friend. She's probably the closest friend some of my Shepards have, if I'm doing details. The Serrice brandy scene with Shepard would rate as probably my favourite conversation in ME2.

That said, I could see a romance happening for either gender in ME3. Shepard and Chakwas are so close - especially after rescuing her from the Collectors.

No, they're definitely not. Actually I used to post in there... but there was a time when it was running so fast that it was just impossible to keep up. And some of the prevailing opinion could be a bit hard to take.

That said I found the community on the whole to be largely receptive to (or at least unconcerned by) f/f romance which I always thought spoke well of them.

Carolyn Seymour will always be a Romulan to me. =P

Chakwas is definitely a close friend to all my Sheps.

As can I and considering where I live I tend to be asleep during the busiest part too. It's still easily the most prolific thread on the forum on a weekly basis but I've been in some threads which move by more quickly and die out sooner.

Miranda's character has fan service elements but then she has some that aren't (just like, loads of characters). ME2 marketing surely focused on the more 'fan-servicy' elements, but that's not all that's there as there are plenty who appreciate her character for more than that (myself included).

It's unfair to reduce her to 'pure' fan service, though.

A catsuit and "in-your-face" buttshots are great turn-offs for me. I think the fact that i love Miranda to bits and am able to look past all these "elements" is a great testament to her not being just a walking ****** thing. No offence to ****** of course

It does seem that she's popular because of the number of posts in her thread, and she seems to be popular amongst lesbian and bisexual women, fanservice or not.

It's complicated. Many of the character's most ardent fans are also among the most vocal critics of the catsuit and more gratuitous buttshots. That doesn't mean that they don't think the character is sexy or appreciate her physical appearance, though. I certainly do, though it's only one reason among many that I'm fond of the character.

It tends to be those posters who don't like the character who are most fixated on her appearance and least willing to consider other aspects. Paradoxically, these posters often also claim that her appearance is the only reason people like her.

As to her appeal to the wider playerbase and more casual fans, it's harder to speculate, though it's probably also complicated.

Count me among the folks who LOVE Miranda, and she's my #1 choice for s/s LI in ME3. I like that Miranda is a bit of a femme fatale Bond Girl type, but again, that's not all that she is. Miranda is also a scientist, who along with Wilson, discovered a way to CURE DEATH. Now granted, that story point is dumb beyond belief (restoring a dead, damaged brain? Really?) but Miranda is now the one person who has had hands-on experience bringing a human back from the dead. She's also got the inside track on a lot of Cerberus activities. Miranda could be a major ally—or a major adversary. And the thing is, it could easily go either way. Miranda plays her cards close to her chest, while everyone is ogling her T&A, she's cooking up all sorts of plots and machinations. That's why she presents herself that way. She knows the effect her appearance has on others, and every aspect of her presentation is designed by her to intimidate and manipulate others. Contrast this with characters like Tali, Liara, Jack, Ashley, etc., who are much more open, what-you-see-is-what-you-get (not that that's a bad thing) and it's easy to see why Miranda is an interesting and compelling character. I know she's not everyone's cup of tea, and that's fine. But I'm a bit of a Miranda myself, so I totally get her. I don't even mind the catsuit, for aboard ship. But for combat/harsh environment, she needs full armor with a helmet. That was just another example of BioWare's Dumb Science Initiative in ME2.

And I'm glad we're all observing the "no character bashing" courtesy in here. :)

I enjoyed Miranda's side quest, and she's a solid character. But I think some lovely Asari or Ashley will be my choice.

For instance I quite like the catsuit. But it's more a reflection on my preference for a more casual style of dress in my sci-fi space opera as opposed to the heavily armoured spacemarine motif. I personally am in favour of technobabble which reduces the overall bulkiness of combat protection. Is Miranda's catsuit fanservice? Yes, but it could be worse... there is the preferance for the skin-tight silhouette aesthetic to out and out exposed skin. Samara does go for the revealing cleavage and Jack has... belts. Miranda comes off as quite conservative in contrast.

I haven't given much thought to female SS love interests, but Miranda would be my number one choice as well. I don't know what I'm going to do if my overpowered little defense-crusher doesn't return in a big way in ME3.

Call me weird but I have two different infiltrator femSheps who are mostly Paragon-leaning-Paragade and went through ME1 single. One is crushing so hard on Samara it's kind of sad to see, the other just loves to antagonise Miranda whenever possible in much the same style as Revan/Bastilla.

I've always thought a more 'aggressive' slant to her romance would suit her personality. A relationship which was teasing, challenging, confrontational and playful would feel to me like a natural fit. I think there are numerous ways that Miranda could demonstrate her assertive personality... without resorting to rolling around on the engine room floor.
