I do think the character threads would lose nothing from accepting that different people understand and appreciate 'their' characters in different ways.

Which is why the Miranda thread is so great.

Indeed it is! ^_^

Now to answer my own curiosity. How do women who play m/m romances see those romances? I know my GF jokes about watching two HAWT guys getting it on, but she's just mocking the "OMG! HAWT lesbians!" male fans. She and her girlfriends seem to intent on creating characters that fulfill all their male LIs' emotional as well as sexual desires with as many options as Bioware will allow..

I have a straight female friend who is a massive Assassin's Creed fan, and openly admited to me that she gets off on reading slash fic about a pair of characters (Not sure on the names) from the series. And I'm sure she's not the only one to genuinely find man on man squeezin' "Hawt".

Then there are those that play out relationships just to see how they can work. I know that one of my Sheps are going to finish a relationship with Tali, despite not swinging in the direction of curvy, allergy prone alien women forever locked in a vacuum suit myself. ;-)

One of the advantages, I suppose, of living with a female Bioware fan is that I can see the romances play out of characters I don't romance (I've never done a male gay romance myself). I don't know if I would have done them myself to be a completionist, but I probably wouldn't. Bioware is getting a bit better as adding gender specific touches to the romances, but they are still 99% identical.

That is one of the reasons I'm intrigued by ME3 IF IF IF they make previous LIs available for s/s, there is an opportunity for Bioware to really write different romances. However, I'm pretty sure their will be just a unique start to the romance and then the rest will play out nearly the same.

For the love of Gawd, people, if you are going to the Tali thread be careful to stay rational in your presentations and don't get drawn into a shouting match with the raging fans. Some of those Talimancers are amazingly adept at making snide remarks that could get a rise out of Buddha himself.

This kind of thing is so awesome lol. Makes me root for the cause even though I don't personally have a very large stake in it.

I wouldn't necessarily rule anything out, we've seen a lot of commentary by developers about how Bioware are trying to innovate in the way romances are handled. Plus, given how much they're trying to avoid being associated with DA2 in any way, shape or form, it's always possible the Mass Effect team will do something different with the s/s romamces.

It's still a bit early to be making predictions though, especially since we don't know who half the characters are.

Edit: Also, personal view is that previous LIs becoming available for s/s is just about guaranteed. To paraphrase Liara, I can't point to one specific bit of evidence, it's more like a feeling gathered from months of reading about it.

They're gonna get mad at your for turning their thread into a an s/s battlefield. You managed to one of the regular anti s/s people to post in there and now some of the Talimancers are talking about retcons, bad writing and stuff. Collider won't be happy at what you've done to his thread.

He should have known better. It is impossible to engage in a mature critical discussion of a character in his or her own fan thread.

Getting back on topic before Woo comes in and starts kicking ass...

Excluding Liara since she isn't "really" a s/s relationship, how many players of s/s Shepard think that s/he and her LI will eventually have children (through adoption or genetic engineering)? In the case of xenophiles, what species would you prefer and would you even choose a child of either of the couple's species (Tali and Shepard decided to adopt a Krogan for instance). I'm sure ME3 will create A LOT of orphans.

P.S. -- I give up on the Tali thread, especially when a Talimancer said that their thread is for "manly" lovers of Tali. I laughed so hard I nearly peed my pants. I try to be as manly IRL as I can be, but I'd never have thought to prove my production of testosterone by proclaiming my love for a fictional alien and defending her honor against gay indoctrination.

You''d best be careful about dismissing Liara as an s/s romance. The people don't take too kindly to that sort of thing here. I'd like them to create an impossible human-Quarian child in ME3. Yeah. Crazy babies.

If there was adoption going on for any of my Sheps I'd want the kid to either be human or the same species as the other partner. None Sheps would know how to explain growing up in turian terms or help maintain a quarian's enviro suit.

Of course I'd immediatly disregard this rule for a elcor kid, because elcor are awesome. :)

New comers to this thread may be confused, but most of the regulars should know by now that I have ALWAYS considered Liara a bisexual character, a woman, and a potential lesbian lover for female Shepard. I suppose I should use sarcastic smiley faces to make myself clearer.

Asari don't really count I think since they are monosexual in gender. Also I agree yeah no crazy alien babies. Asari are the only possiblity since thats the way they reproduce.

The are intriguing to me as well. The codex says that they are built as they are because the come from a heavy gravity planet, which would explain why they move so slowly since they don't want to go flying into walls. The SHOULD be amazingly strong in "regular" gravity, but the Elcor merchant caved pretty quickly to Shepard's threats to break his (her?) legs.

Plus, in ME1 Garrus said he once hunted an Elcor serial killer. How the hell did THAT work?

When I heard that line my inital reaction was to want to know more. Then I realized that it's best not to wonder how the emotionless elephant-people murded innocents.

From an Asari perspective it certain wouldn't count, but from the perspective of the other two genderd sapient species they are definitely women and a female from another species would have to be capable of being attracted to the female gender to romance them.

IIRC they moved slowly and carefully because there high gravity made for heavier falls resulting in broken bones. So it would make sense that they would fear breaking bones.

Unless it's a choice in the epilogue, I don't see this happening outside of people making it up in their minds.

One might expect that war orphans of all species would be plentiful after all is said and done, if this were a conventional war fought against a conventional enemy. The reapers don't really follow the typical rules of engagement however. They are as likely to raze entire cities into rubble as not. They won't hold back against civilians.

My expectaton is that although there will be war orphans in need of homes, it is an likely that there won't be so many that there would be trouble with finding them willing placement. Just my opinion. I think the reapers are too indiscriminate for it to be an issue.

I doubt any Shep would settle down with their LI immediately after the war, there would simply be too much to do. Eventually I do think it will happen. Liara will definitely be having some blue babies even if she is still a maiden. I think Ashley will also be family oriented. Miranda's infertility is an obstacle, but the sort of thing she'd devote herself to overcoming. Kaidan would want to give a child the family life he couldn't have. Jack...I think it would be in everybody's best interests that if she ever became pregnant, that she be somewhere far away from vital infrastructure. Jacob would want to prove he could be the kind of father he never had. Garrus and Tali... depending on the losses to the turians and quarians I could even see them breaking up with Shepard after the war and returning to their people. I don't think Thane will get a cure to the Kepral's.

I don't think any of these outcomes would see anything except the smallest mention in an epilogue anyway. This is head-canon/fanfiction territory.

If Salarians can be attracted to them despite not really having a sex drive, then so can straight women.  Or gay men.
