I'm just saying: people are immediately conjuring Kelly as the worst case scenario, when she was actually only half-developed in the first place. If Bioware were going to do a non-squadmate romance, they'd want to do it right.

But, isn't that exactly the point? Kelly was only half-developed, something Bioware wanted to do "right" but didn't really get the chance to implement properly. How do we know that same-sex romances won't be the same? Something that Bioware wants to do ideally, but in the end we only end up with Kelly's "Easter egg" of a romance?

I certainly don't blame anyone who conjures Kelly as a worst-case scenario (I know I do!) because Kelly really is a prime example of our worst fear... besides being cut from the game entirely, of course.

It would be if BioWare revealed the LIs on February 14 <3

They did that this past year with DA2.

They said, characters X, Y, Z will be LIs.

They didn't specify who was an s/s LI though.

I bet they'd do the same with ME3 XD

The point is that Kelly was never designed to be a full fledge romance.  She's just a little side dish, a fling.  The facts are that she can be almost as deep as some of the other romances, idiotic and tired **** shaming jokes to the contrary.  No one else cared enough to feed my damn fish that's for sure.  What was cut was that there was at least one other additional quasi-romance in Kenneth, while I imagine some interaction may have been cute out they wouldn't have been full LI under any conditions.  People who equate the two are comparing apples and kumquats (oranges being too similar for this analogy).

Frankly this reminds me of the time Maelora and other naysayers were saying that there would be no s/s LI in DA2 besides someone like Kelly and that Isabela would be retconned to straight.   We all know how that turned out! While I doubt we will be getting all bi LI (though it hasn't been ruled out, it's just not necessarily true).  Bioware may not always move as fast as we like but I've never seen em go backwards on s/s inclusion since KOTOR.

I'd say ME2 was a step back as far as s/s inclusion goes.

Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 were both steps back as far as I'm concerned. I agree with Makenzie on s/s romances when it comes to women, but on the male side there was Sky in Jade Empire, then nothing until DAO introduced Zevran. BioWare has been uneven enough about s/s content that I'm not comfortable counting on anything.

Me too BUT. If the characters available for new romances are Vega, New Female, Liara, Kaidan, Ash & Joker, then I actually could see 'all bi' scenario technically. After all "some, but not all" & "not all characters will be available for s/s romance" statements would still be true if we include continued romances with characters that won't be returning as squadmates/won't be on the Normandy, and thus rather surely won't be available for any kind of new romance.

Considering Jade Empire had a gay male romance, it definitely did felt like ME took a step forward regarding s/s romances. BTW, which team developed JE? Was it ME/KOTOR team or the DA team?

Idle thought: does Mordin qualify as a positive portrayal of an ace character? As far as envelope-pushing goes, that's closer to the edge, but I'm not sure if the fact that he's an alien and his whole species is that way disqualifies him (given that sounds an awful lot like the discount lesbian asari).

I did forget about Sky, m/m romances have always been iffier that's true enough. Not that I was all the impressed with that in the first place, considering the hoops you have to jump through to get to it.

And the "Yeah I'm reall straight, it's only you that made me think of a guy this way first time ever nevermind I'm 30+ something and whatnot" nonsense...

I just think that imagining the worst possible scenario for s/s - when we have next to no information, and what information we do have points away from Kelly-esque quality - is being unreasonably pessimistic.

Bioware have been working on them for months. They were announced and included as a major new feature. Kelly was only ever devised as one part of a series of small crew interactions, most of which were cut. Developers had to finish the Kelly content at home, in their own time, just to get her into the game!

I don't think they're even in the same league, and the comparison isn't valid.

Indeed. It wasn't handled well. It also came across awkward, for want of a better term. As if he needed convincing. Silk Fox's s/s romance felt more natural. In any case, it was a first attempt, so I try not to criticize BioWare too harshly over it. Hopefully there won't be any steps backward with ME3 and any other games going forward. If they can do it right two games in a row, I might start embracing that rarest of my personal traits: optimism. ;)

Repeat after me, loudly and slowly:

Sky is the Bioware yin to Juhani yang, or something like that. I imagine people hearing about the potential for some s/s love only to be disappointed.

Wouldn't that be yang to yin? Or is it reversed for queer LIs?

You're right, though, a tech class krogan would be even better :D

So, the idea of Chakwas got me thinking and I would actually love someone like Bailey or Hackett for some of my maleSheps. Both are quite interesting male characters in my eyes. Though that is highly unlikely, someone a little older would be a nice addition to the choices.

On the female side, I found one of the femSheps I made recently taking an interest in Lizbeth Bayhnem and I wanted to ask, if someone knows what the status is on that "vigilante" character, that has been going around some time ago. The picture of that stunt woman/actress kind of reminded me of her and the idea that "Vigilante" might be Liz Bayhnem, who after seeing what ExoGeni did on Feros, went to fight the wrongdoings of the big corporations kind of intrigues me, though I am probably horribly wrong. But I said it anyway to maybe get some thoughts on that.
