A little off-topic, but the hanar, volus and elcor had far more lore in the first game, and even added a nice layer to the interstellar politics of the ME universe. Volus were intergalactic bankers angry at humanity for their rapid diplomatic rise, elcor had some interesting lore (and I'd love to see them as mobile weapons platforms) and the hanar's religious devotion added some nice spice to the Citadel.
I'm not sure what happened (possibly a shift in the writing priorities), but from ME2 onwards all we seem to get are caricatures or tiny bit-part appearances. It's probably fair to call them minor races, story-wise, which is a shame.
One of my favourite moments in the whole series is Shepard (possibly) challenging Avina's use of 'lesser races' when she explains the military and economic responsibilities of Council membership, which would be a burden for those not able to provide them.
Re: Okeer and Grunt. I thought Okeer was a dangerous madman (but then Grunt is never exactly stable, either) - I thought the 'coming of age' story was too overdone (although I *adored* his dossier for LotSB), and it felt like both of them lacked the sense or intelligence of Wrex.
Krogan for LIs? Sure, if people want them. Not my thing, but all power to you.

I don't know of a dev ever taking the odd call of "I wanna romance geth" seriously enough to be like "lolNO." the way they have krogan.
Probably because most of the calls to romance geth really are jokes? I dunno.
