Do we? We only see 5 seconds of Vega, tops.
Enough to know he's not really a dudebro. Thus far at least.

Doesn't seem like any of the ME2 love interests are s/s. Tali even mentions finding men attractive.bleetman wrote...
Well. That's... not exactly what I was hoping for. If those're the only ones available my enthusiasm regarding the inclusion of s/s romance is going to wane a little, regardless of how good they turn out to be.
Makes sense, most of them are temps.

How could can they be with everything else they have to do?
And considering they won't be part of the 'core' romances I doubt they'll get as much dev attention.

BioWare can't claim Liara's not a woman and then also claim she's sufficient female s/s love interest to meet the needs of fairness.Collider wrote...
Bioware can claim whatever they want, but Liara with female Shepard is same sex.
Yeah, Main!Shep doesn't date noncoms, period. It's part of her most basic bit of characterization. One of many reasons why just one LI is a pretty poor sop.FoxHound109 wrote...
Meh. I know the romance could probably be even better than the regular ones, but I don't think I'd care for Shepard to romance anybody that didn't really go on missions with him and fight right beside him.

@Backlash: Apart from everything else, that combined with the -snip- makes me worry pretty strongly about the "look, you dudebros never have to talk to or touch the dirty queers" undertones. It feels uncomfortably like pandering to the "get your ****** off my Garrus, you can have your own new sick perv characters that I can just ignore/airlock" crowd.
Yeah, this. I know it's an unfair assessment to make on my part, but I suppose at the core of the problem is exactly what you said. It makes it feel less like they would include a real M/M romance and more like smokes and mirrors to satisfy both sides.

Anyway assuming truth at this point I'll be banking with Foxhound's theory on the previous page, it would make sense and no-one would have any legitimate reason to whine. On another note, gay exclusive would be extremely refreshing. For once Bioware wouldn't just be recycling character romances to keep everyone happy, and as a result they'll feel a lot more genuine imo.

So pretty much we're down to VS & Vega as the only possible s/s LIs that may still happen?Collider wrote...

True. However, if the only m/m LI is really a non-squadmate, will you think BioWare didn't do it on purpouse so that bigoted players don't have to even deal with them/take on missions?Collider wrote...
With all due respect...from what I know , it's hardly AT ALL reasonable to start suggesting that Bioware doesn't respect gays right now.

We're not really saying that they don't. Respect is a sort of personal thing, but when it comes to business they will do whatever it takes to make the most money. It has nothing to do with a lack of respect, it's just how businesses work. If they feel they can use one non-essential crew member to satisfy the need of S/S-ers and anti-S/Sers then they're going to do it.

We don't know if the VS or Vega is S/S. At all. In fact, it seems the chances for them have gotten BETTER, not worse.IsaacShep wrote...

And think about the role of this M/M guy on the team. Shepard HAS to bring him along.

Who's saying that? Because I don't see that anywhere here.
I do see a lot of really reasonable concerns about whether their execution of their attempts to show their respect for us as customers will be satisfactory or problematic. Which, given the track record of the industry in general and BioWare in particular, and what we've heard so far, is completely fair and warranted.

As long as the romances are as fleshed out as the squadmate ones, I see no reason to raise hell, although I can understand how people would see this as pandering to the anti-S/S crowd.
Regardless, I'd be heartbroken if Vega wasn't an option!

Bringing him on the shuttle doesn't really count though, because it's highly doubtful that you'll trigger a romance with him in mid flight. You'll probably have to go looking for him on the Normandy when you're back inside.
I'm not sure about Vega and V.S.'s chances getting better here, to be honest.

I think people are now just making stuff up. I'll wait until either Bioware confirms or in-game.
