I honestly don't know how you could say he's non essential. That's like saying Joker is non essential.

Joker has been in three games thus far and in Mass Effect 2 you even ge to play as him. He's certainly more essential than a shuttle pilot and if we're talking purely about character here (and not positions on the Normandy), Joker would likely still win.

With all due respect...from what I know and seen, it's hardly AT ALL reasonable to start suggesting that Bioware doesn't respect gays right now. It's a little infuriating to see this.

I don't know what you know and have 'seen'.

Regardless, I'd be heartbroken if Vega wasn't an option! Image IPB

Yeah, me too.

*Crosses fingers*

I feel like Vega being an S/S option would probably have an even bigger impact than a full gay L.I.

I support people just making stuff up at this point. I am not a fan of spoilers, and people seem to be angrier and more confused from what has been leaked out. I thought the speculation was obsessive before, but now? Sheesh.

By the way, the male Shepard three way sex scene with Wrex and Liara I thought was beautifully handled. Rarely have I seen a video game so artistically handle a graphic sex scene involving pastries.

Well, yes. But it doesn't seem like the actual reason people were wanting them in the first place has actually sunk in for them. The whole point - or at least as far as I thought - wasn't to get s/s romances in for the sake of having one. It was to allow the pursuit of s/s romance on the same grounds as o/s ones, for various reasons. "Because squad members are almost inevitably tied into the bigger plot more, get more facetime and are generally used as emotional leverage with more success' being mine.

Also, nobody is suggesting that. Folk are disappointed. Which isn't exactly an unpredictable response, let's be honest.

With respect, Bioware doesn't owe us any obligation to be fair or just.

Something is better than nothing, and what we have right now looks like more than something.

Yeah, this. I guess it sounds stupid and ungrateful in a sense, but part of the chance to do S/S romances was to get closer to the characters we had grown attached to.

I don't understand this attitude at all. Things don't change for the better because people sit around saying "oh what we have now may be so much less, but it's still better than nothing, yay thank you majority culture for your generous scraps, we'll shut up and throw a party in your honor."

If I screw up a piece and it's not what my client wants, my client sends it back to me and says "no, this is too formal, I want a more casual piece." And I rewrite it. And I've done better work because of it, and am better able to meet that clinet's needs in the future, and they contact me again for further jobs. It's a basic principle of service.

Nobody is suggesting that they owe us anything.

Also, the files seem legit. It has hundreds and hundreds of lines and I found this one:

"You're not supposed to call me that anymore, James."

Somewhere in there, which is in the beta. So unless someone spend this much time writing these lines, it's unlikely that it's fake.

Poor BioWare.

They can never win.

But winning in this case couldn't be more simple -> Have at least one LI for GaySheps who's on the equal terms with the great majority of LIs for StraightSheps.

I'd be really annoyed if Vega was only O/S. femShep already has plenty of options. Another one too?

Nope. Someone *somewhere* will say it should be X instead of Y.

My argument with s/s critics has always been that IF IF IF Bioware wanted to make most or all the previous LIs "bi," they could do so without retcon since the characters' sexuality has never been firmly established, and that Bioware was under no obligation to cater to the critics' assumptions of being "straight." Sure, it would have been a fan service, just like the Tali and Garrus romances were in ME2, and so long as there was an opening they were free to take it. But at the same time I have wanted it to be the writers' decision whether or not to make them available. If the writers feel that Tali could be a great "bi" option, they should have been able to do so with the epic stream of outraged posts. And to be fair, I have to say the same if they decide that she is, in fact, "straight."

Of course they don't. Nor do I owe them my automatic elation regarding everything they do, regardless of personal reservations. I'm disappointed by this news, because I'd hoped for more. That's not unreasonable, really.

I get that everyone wants more options, but even if there were equal numbers of o/s and s/s LIs someone would be annoyed because their favourite character wasn't one of them.

I've read some of the files, and the m/m and f/f romances seem as well developed as any others. To say they're somehow lesser because they aren't squadmates seems premature without actually seeing them in-game.

Of course since everyone has his/her favourite. The point is, there would still be at least one equal-terms s/s LI.

Do we have any evidence that none of the squad members are available for s/s romance?

Well, in that case...all the LIs would be availabe to both genders so people would be able to romance their fave character as long as they were an LI.

I have to agree with this. As an Ashley fan, I've had to put up with the fact that she will never get the same treatment as Liara. I remember rolling my eyes when reading posts from Kaidan and Ashley fans that they weren't given the same treatment in the final ME2 DLC that Liara got in LotSB. I admit that I thought/hoped that Ashley WOULD be featured in the DLC when it was announced, but I've never considered it a betrayal that Bioware didn't grant my wishes.

In other news, whoever says this line will officially become my favorite Mass Effect character ever...

"You know what we need? A Mako."
